1. Be advised, there have been reports here on CC that setting a spending limit on the kids' SeaPass cards does not apply to the arcade. I don't know for sure from personal experience (DD isn't old enough to be unsupervised yet) and it may or may not apply to all RCI ships in the fleet, but you should be aware of this being a possibility and inquire with Guest Services once on board, and plan for accordingly.

That was true on Freedom 2 weeks ago. We were able to go to Guest Services and put a spending limit on our teens seapass but they informed us it didn't apply to the arcade. We were able to keep tabs on their arcade spending by checking our statement on the cabin TV.

  2. Oh, good idea. We use room service almost every night . IMO I have paid for all food in my cruise fare, so it's just the delivery they are going to charge extra for. If I cruise RCCL again, I will remove all gratuities.

And that will just punish the servers and cabin attendants and anyone else who gets part of that gratuity. It's along the same line that a chef cooks your meal incorrectly so you don't tip the server.

  3. Last year on IOS they had 2 or 3 "advanced" skates and you did need your own skates for these sessions, they provided the helmets. My daughter did them and she was the only one on the ice. They did let her do some figure skating moves, single jumps, spins but I suspect it was because she was the only one there and the concierge made it possible to meet the skaters backstage. Since they knew she was a skater, I think they let her do some things maybe not allowed on more crowded ice.

The ice surface is very small and she said the ice is soft and bumpy, not what you would be used to in typical ice rink.

  4. If by "regular" you mean non-suite, Royal has Family Ocean View and Family Promenade staterooms that accommodate 6.

But these cabins only have one bathroom which would not be fun with six people.

A suite option is a Royal Family Suite which has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The second bedroom also has two pullman beds, and the living room has a pullout couch, so the cabin can sleep eight.

We had this cabin on IOS and have it again next March. Depending on the sailing, and what time of year, the price can actually be not too bad. On our upcoming cruise in March, it was actually cheaper to book RFS than two connecting balconies.

The added bonus is the suite perks, which the kids might not use, but you and your wife might enjoy.

  5. It's not ice it's actually a Teflon they use in shows that works like ice

It's ice, definetly not the synthetic stuff. My daughter who is a figure skater said it's very soft and choppy though, makes me appreciate how hard it is for them to do what they do.

  6. Thank you!

Glad that the bill will show them separately if we choose to go that route! Didn't realize you could separate the cards and deposit cash on each! That may be the best plan to help them learn to budget!

I've done that with my kids. I put a certain amount of money on each seapass for the week. They can budget as they please, but when it's gone, it's gone. Prior to us leaving, they do have the opportunity to earn more money by doing extra chores. It's amazing how clean my house and yard can be prior to a cruise!

  7. I find it interesting how little faith some people have in teenagers to not know the right way to behave and dress, and how the parents are held responsible for not teaching them "properly".

When we cruise, my teens will dress on formal night in the suggested dress code. They do wear pants most of the time on casual nights, but yes, we have been the parents who have allowed them to wear khaki or pastel shorts with a polo or oxford at least a few times.

My 16 year old had an interview today for a internship, in his father's medical practice no less. Just a formality, and experience of interviewing with the practice manager, we know he has the internship. Without my suggestion or input, he just appeared wearing pants, shirt, tie and blazer because an "interview is important". So, apparently the two or three times he wore shorts in the MDR has not completely ruined him yet!

  8. My teenage boys like the style now of the pastel shorts and gingham or oxford shirts. It's a nice dressy look which would be nice for casual nights on a cruise ship. And, honestly, the staff would not turn away a teen or child wearing such a look, now people on cruise critic...... They both go to prep school, and they are even allowed to wear it there as part as their dress code, as long as it's not formal day in which a blazer is required. So they do understand and are made to dress appropriately when the situation warrants.

  9. Thanks everyone! This leads me to another question...

How long before I will see the points show up? C&A said about two weeks...does it really take that long. I know, I know...I'm so inpatient! hehehehe

I'm just going to be obsessively checking from now till then.

I just did the same thing about a month ago, added a cruise from 1992. They told me it would be two weeks, but it took two days.

  10. I have two sons by birth and a daughter adopted via Korea. My DH has gone to Canada several times with my birth son for hockey and each time customs has asked to see letter of permission from me stating my DH has permission to travel with my son without me. My son has even been taken aside and questioned, where is your mom, why isn't she here. I would say your daughter needs proof she is the only parent.

We've never had an issue traveling with my daughter, we just take her passport, but we also have never traveled internationally with her with just one parent.

  11.
Yes.
Yes, they are. If they want to participate in the scavenger hunt, they need to have permission to sign themselves out, otherwise they will stay in AO with the staff. You can also give permission to other people besides the parents to sign the kids out such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings.
  12. I had a RFS on IOS and it was wonderful, but I got it because there was a substantial price drop. We were originally in a balcony with the kids across the hall. I managed to get it again for an upcoming IOS cruise because I booked really early and the price was low. We liked the space and Gold card amenities, but I don't think I would do it for $5000 more than two cabins. Another option is to get a GS for the adults and put the kids across the hall. This way you get extra space and balcony with the Gold card benefits.

  13. We will have three rooms on the Oasis sailing next 7/18. Just wondering if we would be able to get a cabana on Labadee for 6 adults and 2 kids or if we would have to try to get 2 cabanas. I know that there probably would never be a time when we would all be in the cabana at once.

No, your options are book two cabanas and once onboard request they be next to each other. Or, if the kids are older, you can book one cabana for the adults and set the kids up on the beach near the cabana. If the kids are young, then you wouldn't want to do that.

  14. I'm pretty new but i would assume that if the price drops to below the $3814 total then you would be able to take advantage of that drop, but technically you would lose the 50% off the 2nd person. I don't think they will just let you apply to new (theoretical dropped)price to the first person and keep the 50% off the second PAX. I'm sure someone with more experience will correct me if I am mistaken ;)

Actually, they did let me do that with my previously booked 3/16 FOS sailing. The price dropped below what I booked at, so they honored the price drop and gave me the 50% off sale.

  15. I was on hold for 45 minutes, but worth it. I couldn't get a cheaper rate on my 3/15 IOS cruise, that one was higher than what I booked. But, on my 3/16 FOS, I did great! I have a JS and connecting balcony. There was a price drop overnight and I got them to apply the 50% off special for a total savings of $1100! I am very excited. The rep did initially tell me that it was for new bookings only, but I nicely persisted and told her that people on CC were able to get the savings applied to current bookings and she did it for me. So if they initially say no, it pays to persist.

  16. My DH and I are caucasian, we have two bio sons and a daughter adopted from Korea. The first few times we've traveled out of the country, I brought her passport plus adoption decree, but the passport was the only thing they ever asked to see. I now only travel with that and it's never been even commented upon. Enjoy your cruise and congratulations on your family!

  17. I just put a cabin on hold on the Indy for March, 2015. On my confirmation page, it said I'm getting a $322 discount because I'm a C & A member. Since I'm only gold, to me, that's pretty good. Question for me, though, is what is the fine print? Is it or is it not combinable with a Next Cruise certificate. Also...the member area under special offers shows no results when you search for a cruise, so I guess that stuff isn't loaded in yet, so I was "flying blind" when I found that discount.

Barb-Are you doing the March 14th sailing? We are on that one, hope we'll get to see you.
