We are booked for a 14 day Panama Canal cruise in January. I would love to have some recommendations for excursions (Cartegena, Puerto Caldera, Corinto, Puerto Quetzal, Huatulco, Puerto Vallarta). I checked the port board and the roll call board, but there's not much information there. All of these ports are new to us, so I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas. Many thanks!!

jlnprt: If you are interested in something DIY, when my wife and I visited Cartegena in 2010, I asked a Colombian friend where I could enjoy a nice lunch. She recommended the resturant, El Santisimo. The restaurant, El Santisimo, was nice. It is in the San Diefo area of old town, on Calle El Toro. We took a taxi there and walked much of the way back before catching a taxi the rest of the way to the ship. We never felt unsafe. BTW we were two couples and be aware that it doesn't open until 1PM.

  2. Someone on Facebook posted the info below. Is it true? I ask because it seems to be - with early seating we were stuck back in a separate back room, away from the main part of the dining room.

    ----------------------

"We like our early dining ...

What I didn't like was we were seated in a second dining room that was not as nice as the two story MDR on the Sunshine. We were told the two story MDR was only for DYT dining.

    ...

  3. I am looking at the cove balconies on the Breeze and was wondering if anyone had experienced any noise coming from Deck 3 (Dining Rooms and Galley)?

We had a Cove Balcony (2405) on the Dream two years ago. We had absolutely no noise issues. We preferred to sheltered solitude and close to the water aspect of the cove balcony. Sun worshipers probably won't like them.

  4. We liked Ca' Angeli a B&B on the Grand Canal near Rialto and Accademia. It was formerly the home of an architect to the Doge and is full of antiques. Great breakfast and friendly service.

Highly rated on trip advisor. Commisario Brunetti lives nearby. There was construction on the adjacent Palazzo 2 yrs. ago. Check first to see if it's finished.

Ca' Angeli looks nice and the price is reasonable for what it looks like. Their website makes no mention of how you get there from the airport or to the plaza by the cruise terminal. Can you share any insight?

  5. Check out the B&B 3749 Ponte Chiodo. We stayed there two nights, pre-cruise. It is in a quiet neighborhood location with lots of good nearby dining opportunities. It is easy to get to using the airport water taxi - leaves the airport property and drops you about 4 city blocks from the B&B. It is right on top of a canal and most rooms are right over the canal - if you dropped something it would land in the water. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to stay there again in 2016.

I have a friend who likes to stay at the Ca' Doge hotel, which is 3 euro bus from airport and Free bus to the ship.

  6. I booked an Aqua cabin on a 11 day 9/2016 sailing and was supposed to receive a $300 OBC, Classic Beverage package and paid gratuities. Once the codes showed up on my reservation I called Celebrity to explain what I saw:

Special Offer -$300 ( agent says is the $300 OBC)

BEVAINGRAT $1,078 ( agent says is purchase of Classic Beverage Package)

SPRINGPROMOB -$1,078 ( agent says is removal of Classic Beverage Package)

Gratuities $275 ( agent says is pre-paid gratuities)

GRPROMO -$275 ( agent says is removal of pre-paid gratuities)

I mentioned that others has codes like "123PROMO1" and "123GOPROMO3". She said that every promotion has different codes even though the end result financially may be the same.

  7. The "Daily delivery of Afternoon Savories" is not what it used to be. Celebrity has downgraded the savories and the fruit from when we cruised CC on the Constellation in 2008. We picked CC because the room was a little larger than a standard veranda, at least on M-class ships.

In 2008 the fruit was a real bowl of good fruit. Each morning we ordered a room service pot of coffee (CC cabins can order as needed w/o the overnight hangtag) and ate some fruit prior to going up for breakfast. The fruit on our cruise that embarked 4/25/2013 (we just returned) was downgraded to a little plate with three indentations holding an apple, an asian pear and an orange, none of which were very fresh.

In 2008 the the savories were pretty good and we looked forward to them. On our cruise that embarked 4/25/2013 was downgraded and absolutely NOT something to look forward to. I have attached a photo of the typical savoury plate (the plant is from shore and not provided by Celebrity).

  8. Are you saying that the speciality coffee and room service wine were included in the package? The Celebrity package description does not list coffee as being included and regarding in-cabin drinks it says "...do not include beverages sold in gift shops, mini-bar or room service. "

    ...

1800- Glass of wine while dressing for dinner............$10.00

    ...

    2215- Specialty Coffee..........................................$ 8.00

    ...

  9. In 1984 my second cruise was on the SS Carnivale. Accompanying me and my wife was my mother-in-law and my then 14-year old son. My first cruise was in 1982 on the Emerald Seas. My third cruise was in 1992 on the Regent Seas. ALL three of these ships have been scrapped. Makes me feel kind of old - which I am.
