  1. Hi Fran and Geoff,

We were with you on the Radiance last Feb. when you booked your cruises. We remember your having doubts about the cruises related to the Jones Act and we also remember when you booked, having been reassured that there was no problem. What a hassle now and through no fault of yours. Thinking of you and wishing you a positive resolution that acknowledges the unecessary inconvenience. Hoping to run into you both again soon on a cruise. We are doing a South America cruise in March - our first on Celebrity and a Pacific coastal on Rcci in Sept. All the best to you!

Hi it is nice to hear from you! We are hoping to resolve this. If hope you enjoy your march cruise :)) and September . Would love to catch up my email is schwartzf88 at gmail dot com

  2. hcat, the OP said this booking was made while onboard Radiance, so RCI mishandled from the git-go, which is why I think X should step up their assistance in problem-solving.

First , thanks to all of you for your diligence and expertise in investigating our issue regarding violation of the PVSA / "Jones" Act. We really appreciate all the thought and research. We only wish the RCCL travel agent on board the Radiance had taken half as much care with booking our B2B despite us bringing up the question of a Jones Act Violation and being assured that this wasn't the case...Oh well...

As it stands now. With the ship docking in Victoria at 6PM our only option to keep the two cruises in tact is to debark in Victoria, stay one night in a hotel, and take a 6AM or 8AM flight to Seattle to catch our 1:15 plane. It sounds doable... Celebrity has so far offered to refund $200 each for the missed cruise night, which should cover hotel and transfers and $300 each to cover flights to Seattle or a ticket change should we cancel the second leg (Alaska) and fly home from Vancouver. Since the actual change in the ticket price is now $2000 that is not an option. A third option is to cancel both cruises and take a credit on Alaska Air/United for the air fare we purchase and also hope to get a refund on the B&B in Kaui we also booked pre-cruise...

My husband feels that Celebrity should refund the night on the ship plus cover the cost of a hotel for the inconvenience and loss of the night on the ship. He does not feel they should make us use our refund for this cost.

So there you have it! Thank you all again. You are great. Hope to see you on a cruse somewhere.

  3. Check in to Alaska Airlines (http://www.alaskaair.com). They do many short hops around the Pacific Northwest, and I'm absolutely certain they fly to Seattle from Victoria and vice versa (we've been next to the Gate leaving for Victoria several times).

Yes they do but we don't arrive in Victoria until evening

Celebrity will pay for a hotel but not sure we can make a flight a 1:15 the next day from Seattle . It was the last flight of the day.

  4. I think, unless you have something actually in writing, showing who told you it would be OK, you're going to have a difficult time.

I agree that whoever told you that should be held accountable, but, unfortunately, when dealing with personnel who handle reservations for cruises, many of them just tell you what they think you want to hear. Mostly because they don't know and won't say so.

As I see it, you can only cancel the second cruise and get yourself to Seattle to catch your plane. I think they should be giving you a full refund on the second cruise, as well as covering the hotel charges you might incur in Seattle before your plane. I'm not sure why you would have to change the date/location of the flight if they are willing to pay to get you to Seattle from Victoria.

The problem is the Seattle flight is a week later from when we get off the first cruise in Vancouver so there would still be change fees. We don't want to spend an entire week in Seattle since we both work and don't want to use the vacation time. I really hate to cancel the entire trip as it was a special trip for our anniversary but it is becoming a more of a PIA than a pleasure....

  5. Thank you all for this information. I think since the ship docks in Victoria in the evening it might be hard to get to Seattle for a 1:15 flight the next day but may be possible. If not it would now cost 1500 more to do the same air so we will have to deal with celebrity to see if they will reimburse.

My husband just wants to cancel the whole thing at this point maybe your suggestion of working with the credit card company is a good one..

  6. The only two ways I know of to avoid violating the PVSA are take a different ship for the second leg from Vancouver to Seattle, or cancel the second leg and take a shuttle or Amtrak to Seattle.

The PVSA doesn't allow a foreign registered ship to board passengers at one USA port and disembark them at another USA port without calling on a DISTANT foreign port..

We are willing to do either preferably cancel the second leg but the change in non refundable air fare is over 2000 to change the date and or location we had a great deal 1300 for two from ct to HI and Seattle to Ct . Celebrity only offering to cover the 200 air change fee.... This seems highly unfair since it was RCCL ERROR in booking this....

    Thanks

  7. I don't have any advice on how to get more from the cruise line, BUT, I think it may actually be the PVSA you would violate and not the Jones act. My suggestion is to re-post this question in the celebrity forum also.

    Best wishes.

Thanks. Yes my research also indicates it is the PVSA but celebrity referred to it as the Jones act . Apparently the booking agents are not well versed on this law and we are furious that despite our asking and being told it was okay they wait 8 months to inform us otherwise ... We are researching our options

  8. my husband and I booked a B2b to celebrate our 40 th anniversary .

We booked in February onboard the radiance in Australia .

The two cruses are on celebrity solstice Hawaii to Vancouver and a Vancouver to Seattle. We have purchased non refundable air through our travel agent including a precruise stop in kaui. When booking we specifically asked about whether this itinerary violated the Jones Act and were ensured that it did not. Now 8 months later Celebrity called and said the trip violates the jones act . They offered to cancel one leg of the trip and provide 200 each to cover the cost of air change fees. The problem is to fly home from Vancouver now costs 2000 more.

They also offered to have us disembark at the last stop Victoria and pay for us to transport ourselves to Seattle and they would refund 200 each to pay for a hotel and transportation to Seattle from Victoria and we would only miss one night of the second cruise. Again changing the air which we would need to do costs over 1500 because we could not make our flight. We are not keen on ending our vacation with this hassle.

Does anyone have experience resolving this problem satisfactorily and having the cruise line compensate them the full amount they are out since it was their error and they waited 8 months to inform us.

We are very disappointed in RCCL. Who washed their hands of it claiming it was a celebrity issue despite the fact that it was their agent who booked, we even tried calling crown and anchor since we are diamond members...

  10. Yes, also keep heading North along the coast to Hillarys Boat Harbour. Heaps of restaurants, shops and a pleasant drive to get there.

Also the Swan Valley is lovely if you enjoy wine and cafes. Not too far to the airport either.

    Enjoy !

We are also disembarking in Peth off of the Radiance and have a 12 midnight flight. We were wondering the same thing as to how to spend our time there and also get to the airport. RCCL does not offer a tour with transfers for this.

Any ideas for what to do without a car such as hiring a tour that could also go to the airport. Thanks.
