One of the best changes, other than the muster drill on your own, is no bin full of useless sales flyers at the end of the day and an overflowing mailbox outside your cabin door.

That's good. With all the promotional materials, it was a lot of wasted paper.

Suites used to have breakfast in Sabatini or Crown Grill. Has this been replaced by breakfast in the main dining room? And the breakfast used to be where the chef would cook up most special requests. Has this changed?

No suite breakfast is still there and wonderful

Is it still in the specialty restaurant or in the main dining room as the Princess Suite Benefits list?

  3. Hi. I have been a long term Princess cruiser with close to 30 sailings with them. I was fortunate to have most of those sailings in a full suite. While I have not cruised the past 7 years and I am ready to start up again. Things surely have changed since my last cruise almost 7 years ago.

What are the key things I should be aware of before I make my reservations?

Princess used to provide the Vacation Protection to long term cruisers at no additional cost. Is this still done?

Are there overall less offerings or level of service?

Have suite perks been reduced to almost nothing?

How is the overall atmosphere on the ships? Still as open or is it more regimented with having to schedule ahead of time to go see shows, etc?

Any tips on changes or what to watch for would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  4. Regent cancelled the sailing. We were booked on this cruise. We have been offerrred the April sailing that ends in San Francisco. Have not decided if we will move to April.

That sailing was the 2nd on our B2B after the Amazon. This would leave us in Miami for a month before the ship sails again. I will have to take a look at the San Francisco sailing to check out the itinerary.

    Thanks.

  5. Hi. I am working on a project that will have the general size of the Princess S6 Full Suite. Unfortunately, there are so many different dimensions listed on the internet for the suite square footage size on various cruise websites, I can't know if any of those numbers are correct.

Having been in a S6 before, I know that basically it is pretty close to a square shape. In that area, they fit the bedroom, sitting area, and bath/shower/tub area.

If anyone will be in a full suite at some time soon, could you please just pace off the distance from one wall to the other? I do not need the individual room dimensions, just the general square shape of the suite. It would be two measurements - Balcony Slider to Cabin Door and then Head of Bed to opposite Sitting Area Wall. Not looking for exact numbers here, just trying to get into the ballpark.

The S6 is similar to the other full suite categories and sometimes the others are not quite as square. Yet any full suite size would probably work.

The attached image shows the general square shape of the overall cabin. I do not need balcony measurements or bath/shower/tub. Just the general size of the "cabin outline".

    Thanks.

  6. I too read the description on Regents site of "your browsing experience with high-speed WiFi that is similar to that of your fiber-optic network at home.

With our expanded bandwidth, you can now consume content, post to social media, view videos and photos, and stay in touch with family and friends on your ship’s network just as you would on land."

I use fiber at home and office and one would think with that Regent description, the speed and bandwidth would be at least decent.

  7. My husband, who wears jeans all day, every day, will be pulling out his docker-like slacks that I bought him especially for cruising, lol. Even though his brand-new jeans look much better on him.

Wendy, your husband and I think a like. I am the same way, jeans all day and only changing into nicer looking pants in the evening since it is required. Dockers and similar do not look good on me as well.

  8. The Alaska sailings I was on were a number of years ago. While I and the majority if other males wore slacks at dinner, I do recall discussing with my table companions the seemly large numbers of men in jeans (clean, good condition) and Polo shirts. It did not bother any of us, just remember discussing it.

Since it has been 6 years since my last Regent sailing, I just wanted to check how the dress code currently stands so I can prepare for my next 5 week sailing with Regent. With all the good comments and input here already, I have a good idea of what to expect.

  9. I am somewhat surprised that jeans were permitted on an Alaska cruise but I always say that Alaska sailings are not like typical Regent sailings. Regent feels so strongly about not wearing jeans that it is mentioned daily in Passages.

On each of the Regent Alaska sailings, the dress code was relaxed. Not like Princess, yet not the full Regent code. It may have been to accommodate the many young families on board or the more relaxed nature of the sailing.

  10. On past 7 day sailings in Alaska, the Regent dress code was relaxed a bit. There was still a formal night, yet the other nights, clean jeans and polo shirts were allowed and common in the dining rooms and around the ships during the evening.

On a 5 week sailing (2 segments) to South America/Panama Canal, will the dress code be similar - clean jeans and polo in evening for dinner, or should I plan on going out and buying slacks and shirts to be used just for the evenings?

    Thanks.

  11. When I have traveled in a Full Suite in the past on a number of ships, they provided suite guests with breakfast in Sabatini's. Next cruise is on the Emerald and I see they have replaced Sabatini's with Share.

How is the Full Suite handled now without Sabatini's?

Do they still have this type of special breakfast location or are all the suite guests put together for the Club Class dining?

    Thanks.

  12. Since I am taking my mother as a gift to her, I am doing my best homework to give her the best options. I have sailed Regent in the past, in the smaller E suites, yet with a 5 week sailing, I don't think she or I would be fully comfortable. Even thought we both have our own cabins, having a place to spread out is good.

I have taken her many times in the Princess full suites aft and she us all about the space and the large balcony. She likes to sit back with a book (or 30) and can read for days.

While no question, the Regent experience is a world apart from Princess, I have to put a good amount of weight on the cabin choice and balcony size for her. I don't want her to have less room than she has in the past, especially since this a celebration cruise for us.

Hard to decide. If the Mariner aft HS was similar then that would be doable. The SS is outside of my budget especially once I add trip insurance. My rates are ok, yet insurance for an 81 yr old are really high.

Too bad Regent shore office support is so poor. I reached out to them a while ago to help narrow this down and have not heard back yet.

Thanks for all your comments. Every bit of info helps. I appreciate it.

  13. Hi. It seems trip insurance is based on age. I often take my 81 yr old mother on cruises. On my many Princess sailings, I just purchase the Princess insurance since I also have a separate annual Medical Evacuation policy. Princess insurance is not that comprehensive, yet it covers the basics and charges a flat percentage regardless of age.

I will be traveling on another cruise line in a while. The fare per person will be around $50,000 each. For me being younger, independent insurance rates are reasonable. Once they add my 81 yr old mother, the rates are astronomical.

Maybe I am just looking at the wrong companies? Anyone know of low cost coverage or insurance that does not use age as a factor?

    The important coverages wanted are:

    Preexisting conditions

    $50-100,000 medical

    Thanks.

  14. We have sailed many times in Owner's suites on Princess Grand class ships. They are the ones aft with large balconies. Our one Regent cruise was in a Seven Seas aft suite which was comparable in size. The bathroom in the Princess OS was a little larger I think. The furnishings were also comparable we thought, although the Regent bed was more comfortable. One negative we found with the Regent suite was that the balcony was completely uncovered whereas the Princess OS on the Grand class ships is covered affording some shade. We spend a lot of time on our balcony so that was important to us.

Hi Ann. How do you think the Regent HS Aft category would compare to the Princess Suite? Not sure I am ready to pay for the SS at this point.

    Thanks.
