  1. Thank you

Not overthinking just referring to the email which stated that -

"You have selected à la carte specialty dining, charges for your selections will be added to your onboard account."

Wanted clarification.  I have a transcript of the conversation.  But I agree, its not the first time I have been given totally  incorrect information in a Cruise line chat.

  2. Hi

We just reserved Le Bistro for a cruise in October and our email to confirm states "You have selected à la carte specialty dining, charges for your selections will be added to your onboard account."

I have been on live chat and been told that the Dining Plan menu is different from the one on the app and online which shows prices beside each and every item.  Apparently the menu is only available on the ship!

    Confused................

  3. I am bringing a group of 20 on Eclipse and many of us have had covid this year.  I have made extensive enquries with Celebrity regarding the NHS official Certificate of Recovery which shows in our app following a positive PCR and after 12 days.  We were informed that this would be sufficient to board the ship - this was on 13th April.  The NHS is deemed official enough.

On 19th April the COR deadline was increased to 180 days, again with no further Antigen or PCR test required to board.  This is still as it stands on the App and on the Healthy at Sea part of the website.

However, I have since had a message via the official Celebrity Facebook page that states that you MUST also have a negative Antigen/LFT test from two days before you board along with the COR.  Surely this negates the whole point of having a COR.

Sent on 20th April via messenger from Celebrity official page -

COR requirements • Celebrity will now accept a COVID-19 Certificate of Recovery. The COR can be presented as an NHS COVID Pass, EU Certificate of Recovery or as a letter from a healthcare provider.
    • Guests must still present their vaccination documents.

We will not accept a Certificate of Recovery in place of a vaccination record

    • Certificate of Recovery (COR) presented as EU Digital Certificate, NHS Pass or Certificate from private entity and must be presented WITH a negative antigen within 1-2 days of sailing (depending on the itinerary’s ports of call) will be accepted for fully vaccinated guests.

    • Guests will be considered ‘Up-To-Date’ on their vaccination status, as long as the COR is no less than 11 days old from date of embark and no more than 180 days old at the date of debark. Guests with a COR will not require any additional testing onboard or at debark.

    • We can now accept an NHS COR which confirms a recent infection of COVID 19 via an antigen/lateral flow test, as we know the NHS no longer provide a PCR tests.

    • Please be aware that some ports of call do not accept a Certificate of Recovery for the purposes of debarking and enjoying the destination. • Date of validity must extend throughout the duration of the cruise.

I have pointed out to Celebrity that there is an inconsistency in information and that travellers will go by the details on the app and website and if they cannot update the website then they cannot rely on the information sent to me.

  4. Hi all

We have booked our 12 night Coastal on Nordkapp later this year directly via the .no site.

Google translate was our best friend!  We could not get through on the phone or online chat - it was the day they opened up the new MS Nansen showcase voyages - and in the end I put a message on their Facebook page and they called us.  We chose our cabin and have been given Select package.  We paid a deposit.

We did ask why the big price difference and were given two reasons - firstly, the currency exchange rates were set over a year a go and that gives a big advantage booking in NKR.  Also, when selling via the .no site it assumes you are travelling on a working ship and uses their set point to point fares that are less for the Norwegians!

    Roll on November!!

  5. Hi

I have booked my first Hurtigruten trip for later in 2020.

Last Friday I was lucky enough to be on the MS Nansen for a show round.  We learned a lot and I have a lot of photos.

We were told 500 for Antarctic voyages and 550 full capacity.

  6. I have just had a call from the US C and A office.  They went to great lengths to tell me that this is an isolated incident - I put them straight on that one.  They also said that they should not be sending a partner's information to my inbox.  Under GDPR they should be using a separate email account for spouses and children over 18/21!

They were also amazed that the first guy I spoke with actually gave me the name of the passenger that my account had been mis-merged with - yes I have her details and could see her cruise number and planned cruises.  I would add that her surname does not even begin with the same letter.

They said that they originally were closing and merging duplicate accounts - I  never had any duplicate accounts - just the one - so I am at a loss as to why they tried to merge anything.

They are urgently passing the matter to the Legal Department.  This was after I mentioned that I am a resting Lawyer!!

    Watch this space

  7. Having recently taken intensive training in GDPR regs, this “mis-merge” does constitute a breach.  I could see other people’s info, including dates they would be away.  I only went so far into the account as I did not wish to invade privacy.

The email I have from C and D admits their error.  The fact that this has been going on for some time and is still ongoing, is negligent.

I will update if, and when I get a response.

  8. Hi all

I think I may be able to shed some light on all of this. It appears that there has been a data breach at C and A and accounts have been "mis-merged"  I logged on to see someone else's personal information and name on my number.  They next time it was my name with a different number and her details.  I could see booked cruises etc.

I have expressed my displeasure to C and A and also pointed out that this constitutes a data breach, especially in regard to the new GDPR regulations in the UK.  My account is registered with Crown and Anchor UK and therefore these actions are in severe breach of the regulations.

I have written to C and A on several occasions pointing out their errors and that I intend to take the matter further.  They are ignoring all communications.  I have now escalated my emails to the C and A Director and will be copying them to the CEO before I consider further actions.

This was prompted when my husband received an email stating that he had been upgraded to Diamond status ( I thought that we were a few points off and that we would make the grade following our next cruise this year).  I phoned and spoke to someone at C and A in US who confirmed that we indeed did have Diamond status and congratulated us.  He even stated that our daughters were also at Diamond level.   I pointed out that the email had gone to my email address and not my husbands - also a breach - and why had I not been informed?

It was confirmed again that we were all Diamond status and we were very happy with that.  Two days later we received an email to say that there had been IT issues and that there had been a "mis-merging" of data and that all C and A accounts had been locked!   This email was written in such a way that it looked to be a spam email - full of spelling errors etc.  As a resting Lawyer, I immediately began looking into the mis-merging issue and discovered, from a further email that this constituted a data breach.  It also rescinded our Diamond status.

My husband still has the email saying he is Diamond and is adamant that he will take this onboard with us later this year.

I just want C and A to admit their error and I shall be escalating the matter.

  9. The Osmond cruise and associated events on board are for fans only. They are paying a premium for the cruise.

Aside from spotting the two Brothers performing and their fans, that's probably all you will notice,

  10. There are only two Osmond Brothers on this cruise and a staunch fan base. It has been priced higher for fans as there are fan only events. These are not open to other cruisers. It is presently selling at £749 for a balcony, without Osmond bits.

There is no Roll Call either, I can only assume it's not a top seller??

  11. I live in Essex and use that rail route to commute into London Paddington on a regular basis. It is an easy trip to do. Once off the train from Harwich into Liverpool Street it is just a few yards walk to the Underground with a choice of two lines to Paddington.

A short walk again takes you into the mainline platform and off on the Heathrow Express - again a journey I have done before too. Buy tickets for this in advance online and look around for online deals and offers via Google.

  12. I occasionally have to take a prescription drug containing a small amount of Codeine and was surprised to note that both Singapore and Japan have quite draconian laws relating to prescription and some over the counter medications.

Cold remedies containing Pseudoephedrine - such as Tylenol, Advil, Sudafed etc are all banned in both countries outright as this drug is a pre-cursor to meth-amphetamine. Australia and Middle Eastern countries are also hot on it.

Codeine is a narcotic and special permission has to be obtained for Singapore and Japan to take it in and out of the countries.

There are also long lists of other banned substances such as ******, ****** etc that are not allowed too.

Please make sure you check well before you travel and ensure that you get a prescription, Doctors Letter and any supporting permissions to take with you.

It may not be sufficient just to have a copy of your prescription!!

  13. Just be aware that some countries regard over the counter cold remedies such as Sudafed, Tylenol, Advil etc and pain relief containing codeine as banned drugs.

We are cruising in Asia later this year and Japan will not allow Sudafed point blank as it contains a banned substance and I am having to fill out many forms just to take in one single pack of Co-Codamol for a prolapsed disc!

Middle Eastern countries also have fierce bans on several medications even if you have a doctors letter and a prescription.

Please check all medicines - even common over the counter ones - before you travel.

  14. We have booked a combined cruise and land stays at each end including flights with a cruise company in the UK.

I made a general enquiry to the agent regarding price drops and was told "this will not apply to you"! Why ever not?

Have had cheap upgrades in past due to price drops but am worried that as they have packaged the trip for us we are being denied price drop opportunities , should they happen

    Any ideas?

  15. I know they sometimes called the cappuccinos etc "Speciality Coffees". If that is the case I will not be buying the package. I hope that Premium refers to the same.

I have never liked the coffee provided on RCI - and this is the only thing I have ever disliked on their ships. It is either bitter and over brewed or weak and tasteless.
