Hal offers cruising as it should be....more about the trip and scenery...and less about amusement park activities. We live in such a fast pace...that it is wonderful to slow down.

So little is said about a cruise first land/sea tour...and I would love hearing from people who have done it...or are going to do it. Not so much pictures, as just telling us what they did each day. Thanks for anyone out there willing to share.

I guess I'm going to give a different answer to "do I need waterproof pants"

We went on a small whale watching tour in Sitka. It rained the whole time but we saw so many whales, otters, etc....that we wanted to be outside on the deck. I had warm jacket (not waterproof)...jeans (not waterproof) and all of us were freezing cold and wet by the end of the tour. We are going to Alaska again in August....and I'm going to take waterproof everything. It could make the difference in enjoying your tour and just enduring it....great though it was.

I've read many posts on using your phone on a cruise. This is what I've thought I heard....when you get on the ship....turn on "airplane mode". Then you can use your phone for apps, etc. To be careful when you get off ship to be far enough from the ship before calling home so you don't pick up the ship's wifi. Can I make any calls from the ship in airplane mode? Sorry but my husband and I are new to smartphones. Thanks for any help.

We'll be on the Nieuw Amsterdam in August, and will be doing the sea/land tour. About how many people get off the ship in Skagway? Will we be in a big group of people all during our land portion....or will it just be about 2 dozen? Thanks for any info...

Just wondered about this as final payment is fast approaching... In the final payment...do they include gratuities? If you have lots of OBC, can you have them remove the gratuities from final payment, and then pay them out of your OBC? I know I can find this out from my TA but wanted to know before I talk to him. Thanks for your help.
