  1. Had to change our plans today from Adventure to Oasis without much thought and absolutely no planning. Not new to RCCL but have never been on an Oasis class ship before. Since we are sailing with other family members I would like a little insight about what needs to be pre-booked etc. We are celebrating our Anniversary and 2 birthdays. Any info would be great!

    Good advice! Thanks

Hopefully we'll be able to go to the MDR on that night. We usually only go 2x a cruise and opt for other things and buffet the rest of the time.

How do you talk to the head waiter? Do you just ask your waiter to talk to them? (I would want to do it without her knowing, so wouldn't want the HW coming to the table).

Are you referring to the cake you order online pre-cruise?

We have celebrated my hubby and my oldest daughters Bday while sailing in the past and I do have those decorations they used to decorate the room still. (Our TA did it as a surprise).  I think I'm also going to go to the party store and see what I can find.

I really LOVE the idea of going to the ice cream store to get something extra special as well (I had not planned on going there at all since it's an extra charge and the ice cream in the buffet suits us well). But, that sounds like a wonderful treat! Thanks for mentioning that.

Skip party store and go to Dollar tree! Lots of appropriate wall hangings and banners and stuff for a 12 year old! Don't forget to pack the tape!  You can choose any night you want to celebrate and you don't have to buy the cake. Just let he server know but your daughter would probably prefer the celebration on her special day, Enjoy!

  3. Sailing in 6 days ( I think!)!!! We usually plan plan plan but life got in the way. Haven't seen any recent Compasses or Menus. Just found out this morning about the Chocolate breakfast! How did I miss that last time?! We have anytime dining and I always like to scope out what is going on before making reservations. Would also like to check out the menus because DH is very picky and I want to see which night is best for Chops. Please help! Anything you could post would be greatly appreciated!

  4. How dressed up do the majority of the passengers dress for formal nights on Grandeur? I know you get everything from short shorts to evening gowns but I am trying to decide which dresses to pack. My less dressy things are getting kind of beat and I have a ton of holidayish and weddingish stuff that has barely been worn. But DH wants to fit in with the masses. Sorry.. no explanation for him these days!! Any input will be welcomed!!

I was on the Grandeur last week and Michael Grimm, winner of America’s Got Talent year 5 was the headliner. He was FANTASTIC, There was also an enjoyable Beatles tribute band, Britain’s Finest. My nose was out of joint for the first couple of days of the cruise due to the roast beef on hard roll no longer being served at the Park Cafe and changes to the MDR menus. However, by the end of the cruise, all was forgiven as the Michael Grimm concert was a highlight for me. My first cruise was on the NCL Gem the first year she sailed and the entertainment every night was outstanding while the food was mediocre, at best, but I loved the cruise. My next cruise was on the Carnival Pride where the food was quite good but the entertainment and activities just dreadful. So, I have come to the conclusion that good shows in the theater are very important to me. It goes without saying that my idea of a “good show” may not be the same as someone else’s.

I would be interested in hearing what headliners have appeared on other ships. I understand the shows are fantastic on the biggest ships but also have heard you won’t get in to see them unless you make reservations long before you get on the ship.

What headliners have been on ships you’ve been on?

Any idea how long Michael Grimm and Britain's finest will be on Grandeur? Sailing on November 8 and would love to see both!

  6. Sailing on Grandeur in November. We loved her 2 years ago. The service is probably better than all the other RC we have done! Parking is so much easier and cheaper than NYC. Does she lack the sparkle and luster of the newer ships? Yes. But the entire crew will make sure your cruise is great! There was a post a few weeks ago about her being sold. We'll be sad to see her go!

    yes

    your choice

not sure - probably depends on the length of your cruise

$15, cash or credit card, per night

not really - Quest, if you haven't done it before.  Love & Marriage show can be fun

    food tour with Bulldog Tours

    there are inflatable ones

    in MDR

yes, but need to know your itinerary and length of cruise

8 days from Baltimore to Nassau, Coco Cay, Port Canaveral, and Charleston.

  8. Last time on Grandeur the specialty coffees in the coffee shop were included in the drink package. Is this still the case? How dressed do people get on formal nights? Is there still a deck party? How much is the parking in Baltimore? Is there any "do not miss" entertainment? Any suggestions for Charleston? We have never been there. Thinking about dragging pool noodles for Blue Lagoon and possibly Coco Cay. Good idea or bad? We are driving so room in suitcase isn't an issue. Are eggs Benedict available every day? Last but not least does anyone have the Daily Compass?

  9. Did a cruise in May and in June on large ships with all the bells and whistles. Returning to Grandeur in November for a more "restful" lol cruise. Is the dining room or Park Place open for lunch on embarkation day? Has anyone taken the transport to Disney World? Where is the best snorkeling on Coco Cay? Its been ages since we've been there. Is the beverage package recognized on the island?

  10. Agree … Can you? Maybe. Should you? What is your tolerance of knowing it is not an absolute? If you are returning to FLL on a weekend you have a better chance than during the week. Remember... if you chose FLL over MIA d/t cost so did other cruisers and February is high season. We have taken early flights out of FLL and out of Tampa without a problem. We have taken later flights noon or later and almost didn't make it. A lady fell down the escalator during disembarkation and the lines to get off were stopped for several hours! Customs has been really easy this year but I have heard there are increased delays. We were also almost late for our flight ( only15 min away) when Florida Board of Health boarded for a surprise inspection and no one could get off! At least going into Miami you don't have an issue of not being able to get back into the port  at least not in February. Have a great cruise whatever you decide!

Embarkation on the Escape out of NYC is easy, using Fwd & Aft gangways - stepping off and onto Deck 7 ... unless mobility is an issue, walk down one flight of stairs onto Deck 6 AFT - entrances for both Taste & Savor are within 25 ft. of each other on the opposite, super easy to see which one has a shorter line to wait or queue up.  Both of them are open for embarkation lunch and served the same, exact, identifcal menu every day of the week.

Sit back, relax & enjoy being pampered at a leisurely pace.  Staterooms are generally available and ready about 1 pm to 1:30 pm.  While waiting for embarkation to begin inside the pier, ask and look for Day 1's Freestyle Dailies - it will list opening & closing time for the MDR, OSH and the madhouse buffet (watch out for swinging oversized carry-on backpacks & large rollerboards & heavy carry-on spinners, especially when cruisers are trying to balance their food & beverage racing for an open table ... )

Sounds like a good plan! Usually do O'Sheehans but I think DR is my choice this time.

    Have  a great cruise.

Lunch is served at Taste, Savor, Garden Cafe buffet, O'Sheehan's and Margaritaville (extra charge). Both Taste and Savor are open. And that is where we go for embarkation day lunch.

We were on the Escape in April. Post #5 has the menu from Taste/Savor. Check out the entire thread for menus and tips.

    Thank you!
