I see the second ship has been revealed and will be called Ambition. She is the ex AidaMira and CostaNeoRiviera.
She will join in 2023 and offer regional departures from Newcastle, Dundee and Liverpool as well as increased sailings from Tilbury.

Interesting that her destination is Tuzla in Turkey, not far from Istanbul. At least it’s not Aliaga.

Hmm looks like Stornaway/Lewis has been dropped from the Scottish itins - pity, it was the one place I was hoping to visit. I guessing the Bol cant get in.
Talking of Bolette; she is now on her way to Rosyth.- 1

Five Freds together now at Rosyth. It’s getting a bit crowded.- 1

Rotterdam is safely under the bridges thankfully. Looks like they have been shuffling the rest of the fleet around in the docks at Rosyth to make room.

Rotterdam anchored in the Forth this morning. She will go under the Bridges to Rosyth tomorrow at low tide.- 3

Yeah here she is (not my tweet):

She’s on her way to Rosyth now to join the rest of the Fred Olsen fleet and to be converted to Borealis.

Amsterdam appears to be taking on fuel for the trip north. Don’t think it will be long before she leaves either.
I presume they will be repainted and renamed in Babcock’s dry docks at Rosyth where the aircraft carriers were constructed?

Just watched Fred’s announcement. Seems Bolette will be based in Dover and take over Boudicca’s itineraries. Borealis will be based in Liverpool and take over Black Watch’s itineraries.
I will be interested to see if they bring them to Rosyth first - will they get under the Forth Bridges?

You do know that Virgin Group only holds 20% of Virgin Atlantic. It is 49% owned by Delta and 31% by Air France-KLM.
But I understand that everyone wants to blame SRB for everything...

I just watched another video from another couple of bloggers. It was nice to see more of the ship that the previous video.
The previous video seemed over the top picky. No storage? I see plenty of shelves and that closet is massive. Although i dont like the curtain. No charging points? I see one on each side of the bed and on the desk. Cant find the light switch? As someone mentioned earlier The room has a i-pad that controls everything but they where not set up yet. You can see in this video the lights turn on automatically when they opened the door. I agree that the bathrooms are too small though.
My biggest concern from the lady's video was her saying the chairs where small and lack of accessibility. I was really worried as I am bigger guy but I can see lots of different chairs form this video.
Feeling a little better now about sailing on her later this year. I am still holding out judgement until i have experience it myself and see what she is actually going to be like on a proper sailing.
After watching that video I think she looks fantastic and would really appeal to me. I cannot wait to sail on her.

I think this looks fantastic. Nice to see differing ship designs. Once thing to note is that as this is an initial rendering, more features probably still have to be confirmed.
Congrats MSC. They really have come a long way.

The UK website still has Legend going to the Caribbean with itineraries being released in May 2016. Whether or not that is correct, I do not know.
Cruise Industry News states at the end of the Oz deployment article that Legend will leave Australia and head to Europe in 2017.

7,000 passengers? No thanks unless they make half mile long ships with enough pools, restaurants, shops and public transit.:p
I'm getting my cruises in now before the industry ruins itself.
Other articles state 5,400 pax at double occupancy was seems more reasonable for a ship of this size.

So MSC are going to compete with Royal and the Oasis class by the looks of it.
It does appear as though they are about to take things to a whole new level...

Wow - STX France are going to be busy. They have just signed a deal with MSC Cruises today for 4 new ships (2 firm and 2 options) which will be over 200,000 tons carrying around 5,400 pax. These ships are for delivery in 2022, 2024, 2025 and 2026.

More here:
MSC Cruises has announced today that it has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with STX France for the construction of up to four new LNG-powered cruise ships that will be more than 200,000 tons. The ships will be able to carry 5,400 passengers at double occupancy. The four ships, the first one of which will be delivered in 2022, will be based on a new advanced next-generation prototype and will form what will be known as the “World Class” of MSC Cruises’ ships.
The announcement was made at the Élysée Palace in the presence of the President of the French Republic, François Hollande, as well as MSC Group’s Founder and Executive Chairman, Gianluigi Aponte, and STX France’s CEO Laurent Castaing.
“Today’s announcement is further proof, if needed, of our view that this industry presents significant opportunities for additional growth going forward for both our brand and product, as well as of our firm commitment to be best-positioned to capture them to the fullest,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, MSC Cruises Executive Chairman. “For this reason, our ten-plus year investment plan now encompasses up to eleven new MSC Cruises ships, coming into service between 2017 and 2026. It is also a reflection of our constant commitment to innovation, as we will partner with STX France to design yet again a completely new prototype – already the sixth in our history. In fact, in yet another industry-first, the new MSC Cruises’ World Class prototype will feature – amongst other highly innovative elements – a record-breaking, futuristically-conceived design that will make the ship a truly unique place to be at sea, whilst maximizing the open air space available to guests.”
“Our long-standing focus on innovation will make the new prototype quite unlike anything currently existing in the cruise industry,” continued Vago. “It will be: yet the richest in amenities and features for guests, for both families and their children as well as adults; cutting edge in design all-around; featuring the latest and the best state-of-the-art smart technology at sea; using the most-advanced environmentally-friendly technology available, all the way through the LNG-propelled engines. Moreover, it will be a ship for all seasons and for all regions.”
“We have just signed an unprecedented agreement with MSC Cruises which will give us a vision of our industrial capacity for the next ten years! We have had a good relationship with MSC Cruises for many years now, and this new agreement strengthens this further,” commented Laurent Castaing, STX Frances Chief Executive Officer. “We have already designed four different classes for MSC Cruises – Lirica, Musica, Fantasia and Meraviglia – each with four ships, and now we are working together on this new generation of “World Class” ships. By 2026, that makes a total of 20 ships that will have been designed and built by STX France in Saint-Nazaire.”
“MSC Cruises has been expanding its global footprint and fleet of state-of-the-art ships that combine cutting-edge technology, comfort and unrivalled entertainment with the lowest impact on the environment,” added Castaing. “In order to achieve this next stage of growth, MSC Cruises have selected STX France for our unparalleled engineering and production capacities as part of a long-term partnership - a decision that pleases me immensely.”
The four ships provided under the LOI – two firm orders and two further options – will be delivered in 2022, 2024, 2025 and in 2026.

Ovation off somewhere else then?

Very impressed, particularly with the Seaside Project. Looks like a fantastic ship.
-
Like 'a block of flats' fantastic?
I am old. I must stop trying to have a rational conversation. Maybe next year.
Study the graceful, sea-worthy lines of classic ocean liners of the past (google 'ocean liners'). Compare to the tower blocks of modern incarnations of new and proposed cruise ships. I get the impression that if they had a power cut they would just topple over.
To an old yachtsman, the new ships do not look at all sea-worthy. It may take another disaster to prove that point but for the time being they will be legal.
As you will gather, I have no interest in these mega ships for many reasons.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Its good to see a design thats different from the standard box like form you see on many new cruise ships these days. This design looks futuristic and as though they have put some serious thought into it which I applaud them for.
-
All I will say is WOW - these ships look fantastic.

I wonder what the itinerary gonna be for the repo to shangai... She can't pass the Panama Canal can't she?
It'll be an interesting one. She is too big for Panama. Suez or round SA. No idea what they will go with.
