  1. Here is what I do not understand......

I will be sitting in Vines before my 1st seating traditional dining room to open. Across the piazza I will watch 50+ ATD passengers queue before the doors to the dining room are open. Often the queue starts 30minutes before the doors open.

So here is my puzzle. Why is being first to get into the ATD room better than 1st tradional? Especially when you consider the queue stretches for the dining room door, past the IC and sometimes into the art gallery.

The difference appears to be that you chose early dining every night. The ATD might choose early a couple nights, later a couple & maybe even buffet.

Unless you saw the same early ATD every night - then I agree, should have gone early traditional.

  2. I don’t have a good answer that hasn’t been mentioned by anyone else.

I am curious though how you would leave 2 suitcases behind. What will have happened to what you brought in them? I understand leaving behind books you’ve read (bring paperbacks if possible!) but that’s not 2 suitcases worth, is it? Even 35 days of toiletries doesn’t take up a whole suitcase.

  3. I can't say enough about Lobster Alive. It is next to the Boatyard but far less crowded and much quieter. Two chairs, an umbrella and 3 rum punches for $15 US. Both are on Carlisle Bay, which features clean white sand, calm waters and ocean the color of Tanqueray. There are occasional vendors, but they're all licensed and will not bother you if you just say "no thanks." The Boatyard has lots of water sports and amenities - and I'm pretty sure you can walk over and use them if you'd like. But if you just want to enjoy the beach and some delicious rum punch, go to LA.

We were just there two weeks ago for the 2nd time and it was amazing!

Does Lobster Alive offer a way to go snorkeling with the turtles?

  4. We just came back yesterday and went to the Boatyard. No turtles at this time due to the hurricane, snorkeling was over the shipwreck instead. We had a problem with the sea lice, may want to ask about them before you go. My daughter freaked out so I went back to boat with her. I was just stung in Bonaire by the buggers back in February so I was fine not snorkeling.

Did you get to see some colorful fish by the shipwreck? Was hoping to see turtles in January; are they expected back?

Can you tell me more about the sea lice? I haven’t heard of them. Is there a way to avoid them?

  5. We always book with a TA and get savings from 8% to 12%.

Under the search forum on the Princess board there are numerous threads on this. ;)

I've never been able to find the name of a reputable online TA. Is it against forum rules?

  6. Yes, that the station I would get off at and it is just a slightly downhill walk of about 2 blocks. By all means if you can handle your luggage by yourself you can easily walk to Canada Place from the St. Regis; it is slightly downhill and about 6 blocks or less. If you think of it when you come back would you post your thoughts on the St. Regis, I am not sure that we have ever heard from anyone who stayed there.

I'm back from our cruise and wanted to follow up on this request.

We did walk from Vancouver City Centre station to the St. Regis and from the St. Regis to Canada Place. Very easy as long as you can handle your luggage.

The St. Regis is a very, very lovely little boutique hotel. The decor is definitely not your standard beige walls and cheap furniture. In fact, I spent far too much time trying to figure out the wall treatment in our room!! It was a sage green leather type wall covering.

The free breakfast was good, mostly typical continental breakfast foods but with an added cooked to order eggs, hash browns and bacon.

The location was convenient for us; although the area to the east looked to be on the questionable side. Maybe a local could verify or was it my imagination?

I booked online and paid rack rates - less a 10% discount for AAA. More than what I might have been able to get thru Priceline, but I felt comfortable knowing my exact hotel. I would recommend the St. Regis.

Thanks for the info. I'll let you know about the St. Regis. Tripadvisor has them rated very high and it seems like a very nice little "boutique" hotel. The location seems ideal.

  8. Only because we will soon be heading to the Alaska cruise season and the fact that there is so much information on this thread .... well am I taking the liberty of "bumping" here.

I thought I'd take advantage of this great thread and get some final opinions.

I'll be taking the Skytrain from YVR to the Vancouver City Centre Station to go to our hotel, the St. Regis.

    Two questions

    1. Is this the right stop? It looks like it won't be more than a 2 block walk.

    2. Can we walk to Canada Place from the St. Regis or would you recommend a cab? It doens't look that far, but I don't know what the terrain is.
