We are on this cruise and will be following your posts. Suites are not in our retirement budget, so I'll be interested in the differences between standard and the Suite experience.

We have eaten at Maloney's in downtown - food has been excellent especially their grouper and burgers, A real friendly place with both indoor and outdoor dining. The location is a few blocks walk from the Hyatt Place downtown.

Safe travels to Tampa...........hope to see you on board.

We like Maloney’s also. Close to the Hampton Inn/Home2 where we try to stay. The wings were pretty good last time.

  2. Avis and Budget  on Miami Road seems to be a hot mess to me. In Dec 2023 on Azamara Onward drop off and shuttle to ship was a little long but acceptable. On return we waited 70 min for shuttle pickup.Still wasnt there so took a taxi to the location. Asked about the taxi being refunded. No go.

Car was shown as full on rental agreement but actually had 3/4 of a tank. Not really a big deal but but had to go back in and then try to put 3/4 of a tank in the car.

Should have just taken lyft/taxi to the airport. Would have saved tons of time(shuttle, counter line and gas) and been only a few dollars more. The google maps reviews and others have a lot of bad reviews. You may have a different/wonderful experience.

We're looking for info on Tampa cruise port car rental post cruise. Anyone have experience with this?

We usually rent from National at 608 N Nebraska Ave. This is a cobranded location with Alamo and Enterprise I believe. No shuttle to/from port that I know of.

The other closest are Avis at Embassy Suites on S Florida Ave, Hertz at Marriott on S Florida also. Enterprise also has a location at 1001 W Kennedy. Dont know about any shuttles with these. Just watch opening and closing times esp(Sat/Sun) with these locations. They arent 24hr like some airport locations.

Tampa Airport 20 min away from port is also a possibility.

Other posters may have more information.

Can anyone comment on the port rental offices?  Specifically Avis, as I can get my corporate rate there and use their shuttle.  I'm trying to get a car for the day as we have a late evening flight, but some of the reviews for that port office are terrible, saying cars are frequently not available despite having a confirmed reservation.  I'm thinking it might be better just to Uber over to FLL Avis.

Used Avis 2520 Miami Road this past cruise. Drop off and shuttle was fine Dec. 12. Pickup yesterday Dec 22 from Azamara Onward didnt go well. Phone recordings said shuttles are every 20-30 min.

After an hour and ten min with no shuttle. Had to taxi over to Counter. Informed counter of no pick up and no offer of discount/cab fare. Car only had 3/4 of tank of fuel so had to go back in to inform and screw around while filling up to get the 3/4 tank. Uber/Taxi to FLL to pick up from National would have been a much faster, easier, and a bit cheaper choice.

Just booked a cruise out of Tampa for Dec. 2024. I'm wondering if there is a convenient way to get to the rental agency from the cruise port?
Also, It seems that most hotels nearby are not available. Is that because we are way too early to book?

    Thanks

Like JohninDC said the hotels should be opening up soon. Check every day or twice a day. The Hilton portfolio of Hotels usually show an outrageous price the first few days after opening. Then they have gone down to a more reasonable price. Nov or so the busy season starts so the hotels and prices fill up/rise pretty fast.

We usually rent from National at 608 N Nebraska Ave. This is a cobranded location with Alamo and Enterprise I believe. No shuttle to/from port that I know of. We usually stay at The Hampton Inn/ Home2Suites at 1155 E Kennedy. It is less than a 10 min walk to the National location I mentioned. They have a free cruise shuttle that will drop you off and pick up. You just have to call them for pick up from the ship. I can give you the number if needed. We have walked to terminal 6 and 3, and used shuttle from 2. There is also a Publix grocery,CVS drugstore, restaurants and free Teco Trolley close by.

The other closest are Avis at Embassy Suites on S Florida Ave, Hertz at Marriott on S Florida also. Enterprise also has a location at 1001 W Kennedy. Dont know about any shuttles with these. Like JohninDC also said the Tampa Airport 20 min away from port is also a possibility.

I think that checked baggage really isn't necessary for many considering that the "carry on"  dimensions and weight limits for Brightline are very generous.

    https://www.gobrightline.com/terms-of-service#baggage

The time difference also depends on whether or not I have an additional flight connection or not.  It can also depends on the time when flights depart from your home city and arrive in FL  For example from my home airport of San Diego, the only "red eye" nonstop flight to Florida on one of my preferred carriers is Alaska to MCO.  The FLL and MIA flights on AS and AA are during the day which wastes even more time from my perspective.

It also depends on the fare difference to fly into MIA. If I fly into FLL for a Miami cruise, I might pay this amount for a taxi/Uber depending on the time of day.

Bottom Line - I never said it works every time, only that it adds new options for some situations.

I think you are probably right.  Perhaps it will be a station in the future.  The future expansion is also planned to go west to Tampa which will also add another cruise option for MCO flights.

Maybe.  In looking at the policy, you really only need to check oversized or overweight bags.  Most normal bags - even those checked in on planes - can be brought on board.

We will see.  I also think that if the baggage policy isn't correct, Brightline obviously can tailor their offering based on "lessons learned."

At least Brightline completed their planned project..  My home state of CA has given academics plenty of fodder to discuss how train projects can really "go off the rails" by spending billions for nothing.

Brightline has bought some property(clearlake drive) in Cocoa. This may be where the station will go. Its still about 8 miles to Port Canaveral. A Port Canaveral spur will not happen. Too costly to cross the Banana and Indian Rivers for the demand.

I don't believe they have refunded anything for missed ports since the restart.   Not on sailings I've been on and have heard others with the same experience.

I have yet to read a thread where port fees were voluntarily returned to customers.

Ive had two port fees refunded on Celebrity since the restart. The last being the Falkland Islands on Infinity sailing Jan 28 2023. Have had close to 10 refunds through out the years.

Have done quite a few airport transfers around the world and they have been the most impressive.

Used them for the trip from EZE to Hilton and then Hilton to the cruise port.

Great communication before the trip, detailed instructions, and a good price.

This may not happen for you but they asked for our Whatsapp number and gave  us the drivers number. This helped since our luggage couldnt be unloaded for 45 min or so because of lightning on the tarmac.

Connected to Airport WiFi and made contact with our driver.

There is some nice reading/info that is updated regularly about Buenos Aires on the site also.

There is a Greenwise Publix at 555 Channelside Dr, Tampa, FL 33602....very easy walk from port.

    Yep

This may be your best bet. 5-10 min walk to Terminal 6. 10-20 to Terminals 3&2.The Teco Trolley is free and may save you some walking if you are leaving from 3 or 2.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn before the cruise last week. A block away from Publix and the easy walk to Terminal 6

Thank you.  I was able to book test at Walgreens on Granada in Ormond Beach for Sunday.  When I tried to do this earlier I asked for the rapid antigen test which I have always used in the past.  There was no availability.  Walgreens does not offer this test.  But they do offer the rapid NAAT test.  I was not aware that there were two types of rapid tests.

We are in same area. For the past year or so Walgreens has never had the rapid antigen available in our area. Virginia was the closest available shown. Rapid NAAT  has always been available(scarce sometimes) and accepted by the cruise line.

Oh, so sorry to hear that!  ☹️ We were on Equinox March 25-April 3 and there was no mask requirement, fortunately.  We saw an VERY occasional mask wearer among the guests onboard, but it was a rarity.  The staff almost always had masks on.  If I remember correctly, we had 1341 guests onboard (capacity is 2850) and they announced six Covid cases.  My hands are still dry from all the hand washing and sanitizer, but we were all over the ship, ate in every restaurant except Le Petit Chef and Luminae, drank at every bar, visited the spa and casino and shops and entertainment venues, participated in numerous onboard activities...  and didn't get sick.  Yay!

We received printouts as to what the mask requirements were in the various ports, and it said that both Jamaica and Nassau were mask-required locations, both inside AND outside.  Because of that, I didn't get off the ship in Jamaica and my husband just went to the shops right by the ship and bought some coffee and then came back onboard.  Others in our group cancelled their Jamaica excursion and did the same, and then another guest told us afterwards that Jamaica had dropped the mandate to wear masks outside two weeks ago.  😮 Don't know if that was accurate or not, but it really didn't matter after the fact.  Didn't do excursions in Nassau either, just walked to Pirate Republic Brewing (the walk was extremely oppressive in the heat with a mask on) and spent some time there (we are both brewers and we recommend the brewery... very clean and beer was quite good) and then returned to the ship.

Was on the same cruise returning Sunday also. Wife felt sick Tuesday and home tested positive Wed Morning. I home tested positive Wed night and Thurs morning. Fairly bad flu like symptoms but back to normal pretty much today. Walked through Falmouth to the Champion Superstore to get Blue Mountain coffee. About half of the town were masked and all in the Superstore.

I am looking for any information regarding Covid testing at CVS or Walgreens..   PCR.. Antigen..

Rapid Diagnostic (ID NOW) at Walgreen  Calling Walgreens is impossible,

any one know if this is accepeted? What proof do we need to show at boarding, e-mail on Ph?  confirmation Txt on phone... what do have to show them.

    CVS cannot guarantee 1 o 2 days

    Walgreen not guaranteed before travel

Is the best option to buy only from RCCL the Home test and results in 15 min?

What has been the the best process for past cruisers.

ID NOW from Walgreens has been accepted. Our results came back in under two hours.

    Concerning dadroys posts

    1. French Quarter isn’t always that crowded earlier in the day. Just be sensible like any other crowded event I.E. Times Square for New Year’s eve.

    2.  Restrooms were a bit difficult but we really had no problems the last two year on the Celebrity cruise. There is an app with some of the restrooms for the event I can post on this years Roll Call thread which I think you have posted in. It helped a little the past two years. No problems IMO with the porta potty’s the past two years in Lafayette Square. No waits, and fairly clean.

    3. Parades run all day Tuesday. Monday will be only in the evening after 5 pm. A bit of an hassle to walk a block or four to cross sometimes but no sweat IMO.

    4. Yes they some times throw whole bags of beads. Keep your head on a swivel. Only happened twice at an mid point in the parade route for us. Thinking it may happen more near the end of the route.

Dont forget to post on the Roll Call. It has been really slow compared to the past two years.

  14. What health insurance? There is no health insurance included in your cruise fare.

Why do you think we all purchase health insurance.

I’m afraid you need to at least provide a link to where you got your information that the visa covers Cuban health insurance.

Pretty much the same as Go-Bucks posted.

From Royal Caribbean if the link works

Will guests be required to purchase separate medical or travelers insurance to go to Cuba?

Your cruise fare includes mandatory coverage required by the Cuban government during your visit to Cuba.
