  1. Been to St. Maarten/St. Martin a few times. Thinking of doing something different like a boat tour. We just want to spend about 4 hours, so we know we won't go all over the island, just a couple stops. We need it to be accessible for two children (7 and 9) and one adult who can have some issues with his feet/diabetic/heavy weight. Captain Bob seems a bit too "wild" for our crew. Any suggestions!

I'm thinking maybe a stop by Maho, Mullet, Simpson's.

    Thanks!

  2. Thanks! Yes, I mixed up Cabbage and Cable! Your information is so helpful! We've been to Nassau before but our family hasn't. They want to see Atlantis but they don't like parting with their cash too often. Plus, we are only in port until 2pm, which means by 1pm I want to be back on the ship. Maybe I'll let them go their own way to try to explore Atlantis and either take my family to the beach or to the Gardens.

  3. Hello, I'm looking for the email address for Royal's dining. We had a wonderful server on Anthem last year and he is on Harmony now. I'd like to email royal and request him as our server for our upcoming cruise. I've read of others doing this. Does anyone have the email address I would need to make this request? Thanks!

  4. Ooh, thank you guys for ideas :)

We are sailing December 4 Jeff & Sue :)

I have concluded to go for either:

Privat spot on deck looking at the sunset and then go down on one knee with hiding photographer

    OR

Book photosession onboard and let the photographer know am going to propose.

    What do you guys thing?

    Here is some questions:

    - It it crowded at the photosession?

    - Do i get to keep /upload the photo`s the photographer take the same night?

    - Is it a beautiful sunset in december? Is it possible to find a private spot?

    Thanks again :)

    Iam so excited

Spot on deck with a sunset would be nice but you never know with the weather. Whatever spot you pick may have an influence on the theme she wants at the wedding...carousel, park, christmas tree, etc. You have the option of the bridge wings too...it's windy but beautiful. Central park under the pergolas would be lovely at night with the strings quartet playing. Follow your heart.

  5. Thinking about a summer cruise to the Western Carrib. on Oasis with kids 9 (turning 9 on board) and 6.

How is the Oasis for kids that age? (too small for ziplining - and possibly flow rider as well - they are both around 50 pounds). Will they be able to have some pool time? (it was very tough on Disney - their first cruise in 2013)

Have to make a final decision in the next few hours - don't know why I am having such a tough time with this.

Looking for any insider info and/or tips, tricks you can offer? (for the trip overall). I've been searching all of the Oasis threads, but I know there are probably a bunch of great tips I haven't stumbled across yet.

How does Labadee compare to Castaway Cay? (LOVED Castaway Cay)

Any historical excursions good for younger kids in Falmouth or Cozumel? (I'll be exploring the RCCI site and ports of call forum - but little thing called work getting in the way right now :p)

I appreciate any tips, advice, insights, expertise etc. the knowledgeable posters here can offer :) (been around on and off since 2002 but couldn't get into my old username).

    Thanks!

Book it! We have kids ages nearly 6 and nearly 8 for our cruise last month. We enjoyed DCL but love Royal, especially Oasis class, more! Labadee is wonderful! Take the ferry or tram to Columbus Cove. I think the area is prettier than Castaway. Just tip the guy a couple bucks to set up chairs. It's close to food, bathrooms, and there is plenty of shade. Water is calm, clean, and bottom is smooth.

There are way more pool options on Oasis than DCL ships. They do get crowded on sea days at prime times but they are doable.

They probably won't be able to do the zip line, maybe the older one could do the flowerier (check), but they can do the rock walls, ice skating, and carousel. There are so many activities for them to do all the time! My kids were never bored. The kids clubs are spacious and will be good for kids that like active activities (ball games, etc.). They do some arts and crafts, but not enough for my daughter. There are characters from Dreamworks around often.

The kids will have to share the pull out sofa bed, as I don't believe there are pullmans. Our girls are small and slept better "short ways" on the bed.

Oasis class ships offer so many more options (food, activities, amenities, etc. than DCL, IMO). We prefer an ocean view balcony on deck 8 near central park.

In Jamaica you might want to book a tour to one of the plantations. Good Hope offers some history while giving you the option to go into the aviary, pool, or to add on for extra money to do adventure activities. We also did the bamboo rafts down the Martha Brae. We booked privately with O'Neil Lawrence of LE Tours. He took good care of us and was great with the kids, as he has a little one himself.

In Cozumel you may get swarmed with mosquitos at the ruins. We loved just going to the beach at Paradise Beach. We've also done a private tour of the east side of the island and punta sur.

  6. I think the popularity of CC in general has decreased in the last few years. There are so many social media platforms out there and I think it has diluted the CC base. too bad!:(

    BILL

I agree, I think social media has changed the shape of socialization online in so many ways. I think all "message boards" in general aren't as popular as they were 10 years ago. Social media is a format where replies, though not anonymous, all for more of a direct connection and fast, more flowing conversations. Plus, people are often there more frequently, causing responses to be more readily provided.

  7. About 30 days before I will start taking out clothes if it is a different season where we are cruising. Right now I don't know if my girls' summer stuff will still fit them this year. Everything needs to get tried on! This goes for me too this time, since I've lost 19 lbs. since I cruised last year! Formal packing will be about 10 days before our flight. If we were cruising the same season as we live in, I'd do it in under 1 week. I couldn't never do it the day before. I'd be a anxious mess!

  8. Don't be discouraged by some less than optimal experiences with the phone reps. It happens to all of us from time to time.

We've traveled with young kids plenty on cruises. It is the easiest trip to take! There will be plenty of milk and chocolate milk as well as water. Try putting in a request for a pack in play in advance. Find your room steward when the rooms open up and confirm it. You may also want to ask him/her to take out the coffee table for increased space. Also, see the dining room on the first day to confirm a booster seat. We never used a high chair as we cruised with kids when the youngest was 2 years old.

  9. TIA for answers. Which if any of the Anthem shows would be entertaining/suitable for children about 6 y.o? Most of them have 'late' hours so that may also make a difference in our scheduling.

Haven't been on Anthem yet, but did Quantum with a 4 and 6 year old. They went to all the shows and enjoyed them! We have all the shows booked for Anthem too. But, my girls always enjoy the shows (except I'm not sure about Cats on our upcoming Oasis sailing). Does you kid like shows? Jukebox musical type shows? Cirque du Soliel type acrobatic shows?

  10. There are multiple terminals at Port Everglades. It's not unusual for Royal to use 3 terminals simultaneously, in addition to whatever terminals other cruise lines are using.

You can see the cruise terminals in yellow on this map:

Awesome, thanks! Does Oasis usually get terminal 18? Indy will be at a different one?

  11. I loved Quantum and booked Anthem. The attractions appeal to my family. If you aren't into them, there are plenty of innovative and beautiful spaces to go to in lieu of the attractions. The pools were great and having an indoor pool for cooler climates is fabulous (I still don't understand why they didn't put one on Breakaway). I didn't feel it was crowded. I never understood the aversion to reservations. The way I see it, you select a dining time and show up. I don't think anyone is any more restricted in their plans by making a reservation than by having to show up for a pre-specified early or late dining time. Dynamic Dining Classic sounds like the perfect solution though, and most like DCL's rotational dining. I like having more of a connection to a regular dining team than regular dynamic dining provides. The Quantum class is beautiful and I loved all the storage in the staterooms.

  12. I wanted to know if anyone has a picture of the couch in the balcony rooms when it is made as a bed. I've only been able to find pictures when passengers first enter the room.

How does the couch open up as a bed?

How far does it protrude into the room?

Can all the couches be switched to beds even if the cabin is slated for only 2 people?

Is it comfortable enough and long enough for a 6' 2" guy?

    Thank you.

I don't think I have a pic of it opened up, but I'll check. The couch basically unfolds, so it is the width of the seat times 2, KWIM? It protrudes near to the dresser with a small path, so it is quite narrow. Your steward could open the bed nightly, if that is what you want, despite how many are in the room. People who are friends/cousins or what have you share rooms but not beds all the time.

I wouldn't think a 6' 2" guy would be comfortable on it at all! My two girls, ages 4 and 6 at the time, shared it. They were too smushed together to sleep the normal, longways, on the bed. They kept bumping each other and waking up. My friend with a 5 and 8 year old found the same problem in her room. We both had our kids sleep "short ways" on the bed with pillows dividing them. Luckily they were small enough for that. I don't think a tall person would have enough length on the bed sleeping "long ways" on it.

I love Quantum class rooms but wish they had the upper berth option!
