  1. Water will be cold , but people swim from my beach all the year , go to Illetas beach where there is an island and a rocky shoreline within 50 yds of the beach wit plenty of fish.

    Thanks Roger B!

if the weather is good, I'll go to the beach and if it's raining, I'll go drink wine!

  2. Hello! My ship is in Palma on Nov 3 from 1p -8p. I was hoping to find a place to snorkel or a boat trip with snorkeling; but it looks like end of October is end of season for all of this. Is it just too cold in the water then or just not enough tourists? If it's warm enough, I will just go to a beach and snorkel from the shore with my own equipment. For Roger or anyone there at that time of the year, what do you think? Should I go taste wine instead?

  3. I'm booked for the Inaugural TA! As a solo cruiser, booked an insider on deck 11, hoping it's close to studio lounge. I'm a little disappointed that the one port is Ponta Del Gado, my first TA on Epic was Exactly The Same! Oh Well! Love The sea Days For Relaxing And Thermal Spa And Games.

Ignore Half The Capital! My Tablet Is Doing That On Its Own And Im Too Lazy Too Fix It!

  4. Hi Roger,

You give lots of great suggestions but I have a question I haven't seen on here. Is there any decent snorkeling at any of the beaches? Or any snorkel excursion s? I will be there and if Oct 2018 on a cruise and after several days of sightseeing in Italy, I'd love a chance to recharge by lying face down watching sea life swim by! Will probably try to see the Cathedral first, and beach after. Our port time is 1pm-8p.on a Saturday.

  5. I bought a full face mask from Amazon during Prime shopping. Use it in November for 4 days snorkeling and loved it! Much better vision and even if there was a tiny leak at my hairline, it was only when I bent my head down. Even then, the water did not get to my nose or my mouth but was funneled to the drain in the bottom of the mask.

  6. Visited a few days ago from NCL PEARL. Had reservations for 2 of us. Followed the directions that were e-mailed to us but we're glad to follow a family who had been before to the meet up site, as it wasn't quite as easy to find. But my name was on the list and after signing away any chance of suing the owner, we were loaded into a taxi. Taxi fare was included in price for the day. It's a very bumpy and rather long ride to the resort but just wait until you get your welcome drink and are shown to your private area for just your party! I will admit the beach chaos were a little old and could use some cushions, but didn't plan to sit there much. We had our own snorkel gear and got ready to check out the water. They have a selection of gear, including water shoes to borrow at no extra cost. The beach was very nice with no sea grass! Water was a little murky but after going a little further out, much better. Saw a couple rays, quite a few fish although mostly small ones and a crab. Friend saw starfish. Area right by pier had more fish. It's pretty shallow so kids would be able to join in. Didn't try to go out to the reef. Took out a kayak, the an inflatable chair. Lunch was soft tacos with choices of filling served budget style. Sea bass was awesome!had A Corona With Lunch.Food Was Excellent and there was plenty. Worse part of day was when it was time to leave! Taxis were there as promised aand were able to take to the terminal for drop off. I'd go back next trip to Costa Maya for the food and friendliness of the whole crew! Rest was topping on the cake! Quite reasonable rates also!

  7. I had Aft Balcony 9322 on the TA. Bed is next to the balcony. Plenty of storage, drawers under the sofa, safe in closet. No drawer at the desk. Hair dryer under the desk. Balcony is large, but only had 2 chairs and a small table. No light. USB ports on both bedside lights. Turn off big lights before getting in bed, turn off desk lights by switch beside the light on left side of bed, then use each bedside lamp switch to turn them off. Took me 3 nights to figure this out! Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast at OSheehans wasn't as good as I remember. The corned beef hash was not good. Lunch much better, but no pot pie. Still complimentary. Main dining rooms lunch menus never changed and had little choice, but dinner menus were great and food was really good. Service was spotty. Sometimes great and other not. Special dining was disappointing for me. Bahamian is not worth the double surcharge for any thing except maybe the waygu beef. Le Bistros served gritty escargot and fish not fully cooked. Other night, lobster was delicious but took an hour to get checked out. Cagneys and LaCuchina were good but not great. Teppanyaki was not very good. Nothing new with show

Well, I need to get to bed. Still, had a great time.

  8. Hi DV,

I'm planning on flying into CPH on Oct 19, arriving early afternoon. I am currently booked at Awake B(can't remember the spelling) but the other Awake has a different first letter! Is this a safe and convenient location for a solo lady traveler, using normal common sense? I plan to spend 3 nights, then take the train that takes the ferry to Hamburg, where my cruise leaves from. I saw where you posted a time of leaving Copenhagen at 7:30am(or close to that) and arriving in Hamburg around 1230pm. Does this running every day and can you tell me the cost? Can I/ should I book ahead? If so, can I find it online? Is Tivoli open in October? Any place else listed as must sees that might not be open during the week in October? Thanks so much for your help!

  9. When I was on the Breakaway, I had to borrow an eyeglass strap or I couldn't go. Said they were afraid I would lose or drop and break my glasses. I did see others without a strap but luckily someone had one I borrowed. I came home and bought one for my next trip!:)

  10. HI Ben and Kyle! Good to see you are in usual form with your review of your latest adventures. That Haven Suite looks fantastic and must have spoiled you for life! can't wait to Escape with you 2! and I am willing to be volunteered for any events! I have organized a cabin crawl and helped with Meet n Greet before, so have a few experiences under my belt too! Haha. But whatever, it is always a lot of fun with you on board!

  11. What a lovely garden Sylvia has! Egon is so fortunate to have such good people to help him and we know how you end up with good people to help you...you are a good person too!

I wish Egon the best wishes in the world for a speedy recovery and a quick return to cruising. I really enjoy reading all about his exploits and hope to be just like him (only a female version) when I grow up!:)

  12. Hello All,

I just wanted to put a note in here about this fabulous post. I just recently discovered it last week and have read it all, word by word, laugh by laugh, tear by tear and inspiration by inspiration. Egon is nothing but a treasure and an inspiration to us all.

I feel I already know you as friends. I can relate to the loss of parents, the loss of a beautiful pet kitty and a cancer scare. You are a great support for each other.

I am a rabid cruiser also; I have been on >20 on different cruiselines, long and short. It is good to see others share my love of cruising at the same level I do! Enough about me. It is a pleasure to 'meet' you all.

    clb :D

Hi, I have followed this since the beginning too but seldom post! But I just noticed that you are going to be on the Breakaway TA next yr..ME TOO! Now we have something in common to discuss!

And I am an animal lover too. I want all my pets cremated when they pass and to have their ashes put with mine into the ocean due to my love of the water. When I told my DD this, she asked if I wanted it done today or tomorrow! SMarta**!

Anyways, I really enjoy this thread and will keep up with Egon all thru his adventures! Hope he sets sail again when this one is over too. :D

  13. I sailed solo on the Epic on the TA last spring and had a blast. The living room was crowded every nite for the meetup and many people went to dinner and events together. I loved the fact that I could run down and grab some coffee and breakfast before getting dressed in the morning. I am not really human until after my coffee!:D

So, it just really depends on the people onboard. I would imagine tht the lving room would be very different each cruise. And don't forget, theres a vending machine for soda in bottles in there!

I have a solo booked for November but since I know so many people on the cruise, don't know how much I will socialize in there. And its all people I have met on cruises!

  14. Amazing! I want to be just like Egon when I grow up! but I think I should have to take many years of piano lessons and there aren't enough of those left! Loved his poem too!

Sure hope Princess comes through for his handicapped cabin, can't imagine why they wouldn't. I know people book those cabins even when they don't really need them just because they like the extra space, but he needs the larger doorway.

Although, Egon must have been happy with MSC since he is going with them again this year, I must say I have been kinda turned against them by their treatment of him and from what I have read on here, I am not the only one. So not sure he is a good advertisement for them...although, if they gave him the treatment I think he should get, then I would be more inclined to give them a try.

  15. It really is hard to believe its been a whole year of adventures! I have loved reading about truly living aboard a cruise ship and the trials and triumphs Egon experienced. I sure hope he will be able to have wifi on board his next cruises and not have to look all over and take the risks to find it in all the different places. But at least he has scooter now and will have it at the beginning. I can't wait to see what his plans include next!

Thanks for all the hard work in posting his blog and his picts!:)

  16. Oh I wish I could join up with Egon, he is my hero! I am not financially independent yet though! Darn! I am so glad he is going to keep going and hopefully, still writing of his adventures. I would love to be able to get hold of a copy of the article being written, or produced by that couple that followed him around for 2 days!:D
