  1. Lisa, I forgot you worked there, you drove Andy back from the airport, and picked up others:p Think Geoff was working that day too.......might get your old job back!!

I sure did Chez. I will put my hand up as i will be retired from where i am now :D. Might even join the volunteers team and hand out maps etc.. Anything to promote this beautiful home city.. :D

    Gut 2407

It might have a few teething problems but at least we need to give it a go of being a success :)

  2. I think it's great for the city. Having worked at the old tent when it was there I look forward to embarking/disembarking in my home town..

Carrington has grown heaps as has the Wharf area with lovely restaurants and cafes etc it is only a 10 minute bus/taxi ride to get there.

If the facility is to be used for functions as suggested in prior posts that may be interesting as it is a working port unlike the OPT and I a not sure how that would work but sure it's something that can be worked out..

Now the Tourist information centres around Newcastle/Hunter Valley and surrounding areas need to provide shore tours that will sell the city as a destination..

  3. Also re Kitava......be aware that the outrigger canoes do tip over. We got one over to the little island, then coming back, ours started rocking and upturned, backpacks, everything in the water, including us!! The current in the channel was strong and we drifted way passed the tender area heading towards the ship. No help from Princess:rolleyes:but the 6 of us were rescued by locals coming to our aid in their canoes, hauling us up out of the water.

We were the talk of the ship.....many stories going around, lot's of passengers took photo's:p and the bridge was watching.

All the dolphins came and swam around us:p apparently the locals said "they know when we are in trouble" Watchers on the beach said the dolphins had been at the entrance to the channel and when we tipped came swimming down.

A big thankyou to the lady who refused to get out of the outrigger so the locals could rescue us as "she had already paid her $5"

and to all the passenger lined up for a tender back to the ship, who huffed and puffed and whinged because we were led to the front of the line by medical staff, as most of us had open cuts, bruising and were hit on the head by the wooden canoe as we went under it.

Rant over haha!! just lucky we could all swim and there were no children or disabled, so beware and go at own risk. One ruined camera but a story to tell!!

What an adventure that was and yes still have the scars, bowl & Havvies :) However could of been much more serious in hindsight, as Chez said no help from Princess even though tenders were going past us whilst we were floundering in the water. Thank goodness one passenger could express himself enough with expletives to get the powerboat that said woman had paid $5 for to come out and rescue us.. and the male passenger that swore at us because we were taken to the front of the line by the medical staff because we were "elite" but must of missed the blood and other injuries we had suffered... :( Gotta love some humans NOT

Putting that aside this cruise was up in the top 5 that i have ever done and the ANZAC service and enertainment by the captain and crew was just perfect. I was able to appreciate what my uncle and others that fought in that are endured and pay my respects to all.

  4. Thanks for all the replies. I only want to bring the extra 2 bottles on board and I can buy good wine at around $15 - $20 per bottle at Dan Murphy's then add the $15 the ship charges and that still only comes to say $30.00 a bottle . . . whereas the ship prices start at around $40.00 and higher.

    Hi John

We are on Princess next month and we have 6 bottles to take on with us and are prepared to pay the $15 per bottle for something that we like..

    Cheers

  5. It is very wet up here plenty of road closures and evacuations from low lying areas. Some people have still not recovered or had damage claims settled from April and September last year and now hit again..

It had eased a bit but has just returned with strong winds and heavy squally showers. High tide is 1720 this afternoon so that will cause more of a headache..

We have had enough now

  6. It would be good if it happened, There is definitely a market it just needs a very good brainstorming proposal to sell it as a package so people don't have to organise it themselves..

There is plenty to offer in the area and people from up here have to either shuttle it down to Sydney or catch the train and it's a good scenic ride.

I am a bit biased though being from here. :)

  7. The thing is, with new scanning technology you don't even have to use your card to have it skimmed.

This happened to me. I never even took it out of my wallet the whole trip.

get a scan proof card case or wrap it in foil. I carry a spare wrapped card now.

The card was kept in an RFID wallet and never left that wallet until we used it at checkin.. We have separate Travel cards which were used on the land leg of our Holiday...

So that was not how it happened.

  8. So my new P&O cruise will be added to my Princess account?

I recently did 3 Carnival cruises but they have their own system.

The travel agent mentioned putting them on my Princess card but then I won't have them for Carnival? Confusing.

As far as i am aware Carnival stands on their own, however your P&O cruises will go toward your Princess loyalty points so join the Princess Captains Circle. IMHO Princess have the best loyalty program of any that i have used :)

  9. The only time I used my Amex card on our recent cruise on Explorer Of The Seas was to book a future cruise.

When we disembarked in Perth I used my lap to to log into my emails as I had been forewarned by others on board the ship to give the $US20 a day email deal a miss as it wasn't worth it.

One of the emails was an urgent notification from American Express asking me to contact them in Sydney which I duly did.

They explained that an attempt had been made in the USA to use my card details for the purchase of $US2000 of clothing and they noted that such a purchase was outside of my usual buying activity and they also noted that I had informed where I would be on cruise.

They stopped the attempted fraudulent purchase. I explained to American Express that the only time I had used the card was to put a deposit on a future cruise four days earlier. They said that 11 hours after I had used the card on board the ship the fraudulent attempt was perpetrated.

Also the Future Cruises desk did not issue a receipt for the deposit on the future cruise claiming there was a glitz in the system. Eventually they issued a hand written receipt. I have asked American Express to give me refund for the deposit as I have completely lost faith in RCI.

Has anyone else had credit card issues with RCI, particularly on Explorer Of The Seas as I would be very interested to know?

we did the Legend of the Seas from Hong Kong and I know of at least 5 credit cards from different Financial Institutions that were compromised and the only place the credit cards were linked to was RCI.. We left HK on 20/11 and when we got to Darwin to get AU$ we were referred to contact the financial institution so we went in and sure enough there were other people in there with the same problem and our cards were cut up but the accounts were all compromised 21st and 22nd Nov and accounts closed on 23rd to prevent further frauds and all the transactions were the same except the amounts ranged from $100's to $1000's..

When we arrived back at the ship it was raised with the head of security onboard who referred us to Guest relations who told us that it was an "onshore" problem so nothing they could do...

I have advised RCI about the incident because If credit card information can be accessed i am concerned of identity theft as well.. RCI have never responded, which is of no surprise because they have the worst customer service of any of the cruise lines... So in future i will not be attaching a CC i will be paying in cash as this is the only place the card is/was used.

My CC was also compromised 2 weeks prior to the cruise and the only place i use that card is to attach to my personaliser, mine was also for clothes and another product to the value of $2000 and luckily my banks security system flagged it.. I would be interested to know what your transaction was to see if it matched the transaction on mine.

    Cheers

  10. This is my review from the same cruise..

Legend of the Seas Hong Kong - Brisbane November 2015

Our embarkation was smooth and we were onboard in no time, our staterooms available at 1pm. We did the obligatory quick tour of the ship and my first impression was that the ship was smaller then the Radiance and Rhapsody. It was also tired and needs a good refurb to spruce it up a bit.

    Windjammer

We made our way up to the Windjammer after embarkation for lunch and the variety of food was much the same as all other ships, the thing that was noticed was the buffet is situated at the front of the ship and this means that it's exposed to the sun which was very hot with the heat off the windows to sit at the tables under these windows and passengers gravitated to the inner tables. We were also greeted with announcements over the PA that if we had finished our meal to please vacate the area so others could use the tables. The food in the windjammer became very repetitive and creative mixes mid cruise to use up all the stocks onboard.. The tables were not cleared or wiped properly and when they were it was not done with a clean cloth or hygienically. Also one toaster to cook toast for the masses at breakfast was terrible.

Romeo & Juliet Dining Room Deck 5 6pm sitting

I have done many cruises and I found the food on this cruise to be quite mediocre and repetitive. (We dined in the MDR every night table for 10) Some of the food was warm and not to the standard I have experienced in the past, but I didn't have to cook it so that was a bonus.. The table waitress was beautiful and made our dinner time enjoyable. The assistant waiter and drink waiter were hit and miss until about day 15.. We had the red coat to the table a few times and he was very receptive to our input.

    Cabin

We were on Deck 6 Balcony

We had the cabin directly behind Lattetudes so we knew exactly how many cups of coffee they made whilst in the cabin as we could here the banging of the coffee thingo and shhhhhh from the steam, also the blender when the cold drinks were mixed and they thoroughly clean the cafe every 3 nights and were there until 130am but it never worried me at all and we used to laugh about it with the staff and knock back on the wall and go and get our coffee. (However i am sure i could of turned it into a negative and whinged about it, but you just get on with it).. The cabin was old and tired there was 3 mesh shelves about 18in x 12in for clothes and 3 small drawers that was it there is very very minimal storage, I had 12 coat hangers so had to ask for more and I was given another 10 wire hangers... The bed was ok, marginally better then the slab we slept on in Hong Kong, the pillows were poor. We don't make demands on our cabin steward so we never seen him much (our first one left day 2) but if we needed him we knew where to find him for extra towels etc and we got a towel animal most nights.. The balcony was big enough and it is good as you look down to the water with nothing in the way (These balconies were added on during the last refit)... The only downside was the lack of shelves and the ongoing maintenance with the paint thinner or lacquer fumes and the minions were working above us tapping and banging away until the wee hours but i understand this needs to be done or they wouldn't of done it.. Just turn the music up and enjoy the cruise. I had to replace my card a few times for no apparent reason but apparently this was common all over the ship. We also had air conditioner problems that is in the General ship paragraph below.

    Vitality Spa

I had a massage that was offered as a special, however there is no way i could relax because the whole time she was pushing crap for every possible thing in existence, which i never took up

    Entertainment

We only had 3 production shows in the theatre and a short one in the Centrum other then that we had comedians, hypnotists and musicians, I can say the best entertainment in the theatre for me was the Australian Beatles Band and they also did a Rolling Stones show in the Centrum which packed out both venues.

The entertainment staff headed by Keith and Belle was good and we found Flavio, Tom & Yun very friendly and fun and kept the crowd in line...

I have no idea why the Centrum was used for almost everything when it is so small even though it was accessible viewing from decks 4,5,6,7&8 you still found it difficult to see what was happening with all the large chairs set out around the areas.. The Anchors Away lounge should of been utilised much much more but there must of been a reason it wasn't, which was a shame.

The library area was ridiculous if you were sitting having a coffee you had to becareful you never got a glass door to the head with people accessing the books. The cafe area is not big enough to be utilised as both cafe and library.

    TV

The bloody reruns of Jurassic world and others was terrible there was a 3 min loop of news and sport and other then that it was a disgrace. We did eventually get some Aussie content but it never lasted long and it was lost as quick as we got it...

    Bars

I don't drink so I can't comment but when I required a drink in the theatre or at the activities etc I never had a problem. I purchased the RR package when the deal was on earlier in the year and I found it good value at that price anymore and I wouldn't of got my moneys worth It was only $11 a day normally $23?

Shakes head. Prices in beauty and perfume shops were about the same if not more then online shops. What really annoyed me was as we got closer to Australia they repriced everything and the prices rose by up to $20 on some perfumes.. The alcohol was cheap if you are a drinker. Other then that not much to report.

    Staff

There was a high turnover of staff on this cruise the first being at embarkation then as we went to the relevant home ports of staff, which made it difficult at times to communicate because they were still orientating themselves. The staff onboard were very friendly and helpful always with a smile even when some people deserved to cop what they hand out.

    Ship in General

We had air conditioning problems, It was on the coldest setting and we used to shut the balcony door when we were out there so that wasn't the cause but our cabin was hot and after we were out all day on tours we longed to return to the cabin for a shower and cool off and it was not the case but it used to get cooler in the wee hours of the morning and once we got closer to Brisbane. I have always needed a light cardigan in public areas at some stage on a ship but not this one i never wore one at anytime as most of the areas were warm. The bridge had to up the speed to it's maximum a few times to make up times or get around bad weather and the shuddering and moaning was very noticeable on our deck so it must of been worse on lower decks, this needs to be addressed as it can be uncomfortable at times..

My only explanation for the air conditioning is that they needed to lessen the power usage to use it for engine cooling because the water temperatures were above average around the equator region, maybe someone can confirm or set me right on this theory as i never got to ask anyone because the Captain never made himself available very often and we were lucky if we got a 12noon update occasionally, which I missed as I always take notice of our position and weather etc but then they rely on the TV I suppose but still nice to hear it from the bridge.

    Tendering

Bali was very hit and miss we lined up from 6am to get our tender tickets the first time it was from the Shore Tour desk and they never started handing them out until 830am and by that stage the line was never ending.. We got tender 1 as we had our own tour organised but some never got off until 4hrs later. Then to get back onboard was another logistical nightmare as there were still a few hundred waiting at the dock to return to the ship with 15 mins til last tender and the weather had turned and was quite choppy so they had to reinstate the catamaran they had used earlier in the day from the mainland. They learnt from that and moved the tickets to Anchors Away lounge which was a better alternative.. Cairns and Airlie beach were a better operation.

    Shore Tours

I booked 3 tours through the ship and 2 of the 3 were good.

The Panoramic Tagatay Tour in Manila was very good it was all day but it was made easy with the full police escort from start to finish and the guide was very good. Would recommend this tour.

Puerto Princesa City Tour was very disappointing. The tour guides microphone wasn't working so we couldn't hear him, the air con on the bus was not efficient and the itinerary left a lot to be desired, first stop a butterfly farm which was so packed you couldn't move or take a picture without masses in it, then off to a crocodile farm where I felt sorry for the crocs as they were in small pens and some without water but you could have a picture taken at a price (no thanks) holding a baby croc. Back to the bus.. Then the next stop was at a penal farm which took forever down a dirt road to get to and then to watch some inmates dance and pedal their wares, no thanks back to the bus... then we were taken to a nominated shop and told we can spend our money in there and buy pearls etc but I opted for a cold drink and packet of chips from the supermarket. My biggest Gripe of the cruise were some rude passengers onboard that think they can speak to the staff onboard like crap and get away with it (don't try it in front of me as I will call you on it and I did) there is no need for it.

Last but not least is the fact that some credit cards were scammed whilst on the ship some of these were known to others onboard but some were not and the more people that found out about it, it become apparent that the only thing in common was they were linked to their Onboard accounts and all had the same transaction detail on their statements but for different amounts from different financial institutions ranging from 100's to 1000's of $$, the accounts were cancelled by the 23rd Nov by the financial institutions and this was only discovered when we arrived in Darwin and needed AU$, hence the cards were cut up and had to have new accounts set up etc and most of them had direct debits etc so it was very inconvenient for all concerned. Security were told as were Guest relations but they stated it had to be dealt with onshore and not onboard. So guess what many of us had to do once we got home, RCI still have not responded to any of the posts on their social media which doesn't surprise me at all they have the worse Customer Service of any cruise line I have dealt with.

I would probably not cruise Legend again. RCI need to lift their game back to what people expect from them as a company or suffer the consequences with the competition out there.

This is my review and I realise others may or may not agree.. I also filled in my survey and I can only call it as I experience it..

    Happy Cruising :)

    Thanks Chez :)

  12. Hi Raina

I just read your review from start to finish. Thank you for taking the time to do it for everyone to learn from and enjoy the pictures were fantastic..

I am glad Sarah was okay that was very unfortunate. We were on the cruise also as i said to you on the rollcall you were at the Captains table for dinner with Sarah & Andy (your dad) right behind us but i didn't want to intrude by coming over however i did get a chance to have a joke with your dad when they couldn't find his walker.

We had a fantastic cruise and wouldn't change a thing about it except to stay longer in Bora Bora it was just amazing and if anyone is going there make sure you do Patricks Bora Bora tour but book in 12 months or more ahead..

I look forward to meeting you on our Legend Hong Kong cruise November 2015.

    Thanks again

    Cheers

  13. I also disembarked yesterday and the signage and direction was not very clear at all. We disembarked from deck 5 to get a shuttle and we were crammed on a reduced footpath with 4 suitcases along with hundreds of others (some that were non english speaking so couldn't understand direction) and there were semi trailers reversing into the construction area over the footpaths as well as the trucks that were entering to service the ship. It was very dangerous at times with people walking in between vehicles it is a recipe for disaster.

I was aware 2 weeks ago there were no trains on the city circle due to track work and i would of thought the ship would make passengers aware of the same.

I am sure it will be good when the construction is complete but in the meantime there needs to be more communication to passengers to stop this happening or before someone is injured.

  14. Back off the Dawn today... I rang prior to going re the powerboard and was told that they are okay to take so i did and got it on with no problems at all...

Also heard a rumour that water and soft drink was being confiscated or limited well my group took 8ltrs of water for our 3 day cruise and a 700ml bottle of soft drink with no questions asked.. :)

    cheers

  15. what happened to P&O. P&O Australia revamped it's Security/Alcohol policies. The company adopted the NSW Responsible Service of Alcohol Policy (RSA.) One way of enforcing that policy is to be able to control the alcohol flow on board by refusing passengers bringing their own booze on board ship.

this a quote from a nother thread of mine that some one posted so what happend on the dawn looks like this policies dont work ,

I can assure you after just returning from the New Years Cruise that the security staff and the RSA Officers do their job with excellence, you will notice them if you cruise they wear black and have RSA written acrosse the pocket and on the back of their shirts.

I know for a fact that there were over 105 cards cancelled at about day 7 to stop passengers buying alcohol when they were deemed inebriated and they were not reactivated until the passenger reported to have them reactivated the following day.

However in saying this and i was young once it doesnt stop other ppl buying the alcohol for them and and if caught they can also get into trouble. I think some ppl need to get into the club, pubs etc in main cities and see how the patrons behave there and you will find it is a hell of a lot stricter onboard a ship then frequenting these places :D
