I just got an email that the HAVEN restaurant is closed our entire sailing on the NCL Joy(leaving in just 2 days!!!!).   They said that we would be eating breakfast and lunch in Cagneys!  And we have the 7 day specialty dinner package.   I am very upset. I had an intention to rarely leave the sanctuary of the Haven space.   I would appreciate any comments or feedback.   Am I am being unreasonable by being very upset and disappointed?  I am not a big specialty restaurant person so what should I book if I have to choose one every night of our sailing.

Sorry you are disappointed with missing out on the Haven restaurant, but don't be upset.  Take advantage of the specialist dining - it's a real treat.  My favorite is LeBistro. Excellent food and service.  My husband says they have the best filet mignon on the ship. My favorite is the Dover sole, yet the scallops are to die for. OMG, so many choices. For dessert, try the chocolate napoleon or the fondue - both delicious - and finish it with French press coffee.  If I could eat here everyday I would, it's so good.

I am platinum plus on NCL.  Lately, they seem to be stingy with the offers.  I have done a few on Holland America and receive much better offers.

Platinum Plus is NCL's loyalty program and doesn't get you any casino perks.  It does give you free dinners, laundry, priority check-in, along with some additional discounts and benefits.  As a Platinum Plus member, I'm happy with these benefits as well.

  3. Make sure you are using your Players card!   I've been pretty happy with my perks.

    Here are the benefits.... https://www.ncl.com/in/en/why-cruise-norwegian/casino-cruise/players-club

It depends on your tier of play: 0-5,000 pts is Jade; 5-15k is Pearl; Sapphire is 15k+; Ruby 35k+; and 100k+ is Elite.

I usually get a comped inside or balcony cabin ... It depends on when, where and how long you cruise. I'm Sapphire, so I get $200 on-board credit.  I think it was $100 OBC when I was Pearl. In addition, I get free premium drinks in the casino.

At the end of the cruise, I get additional on-board credit depending on my level of play and win/losses.

  4. Sailed on the Escape in June. Smoking allowed in the bar area of H2O on Deck 12 Aft and another outdoor bar area (don't recall the name) Don't know the hours of the pool or hot tubs but there are 2- hot tubs and a grotto in H2O. This will be your new favorite hangout. And no kids allowed before 6p. The only inside areas to smoke are the casino (strictly for gamblers) or the cigar room (closed off room with smoke eaters) on Deck 8.

  5. Anyone has any thoughts on the peanut butter cheese cake. I think I saw it on a lunch menu in the MDR.

  6. Gosh! Are we the only ones who hated our bathroom on the Gem?

We loved the ports and the ship itself, but our balcony cabin toilet area was literally unusable. The sink and shower were accessible, but the toilet stall was VERY small. If you sat on the toilet, your legs had to be smashed against the wall in front of you which was at an angle, and you literally could not bend over to pull your pants up. My brother could stand to urinate, but any time I needed the bathroom during the entire cruise, I had to rush to a public bathroom. I was so afraid of having to use it during the night, that I didn't drink any liquids after 6:00 p.m. My brother also used public restrooms whenever possible. For some bathroom emergencies, I did use it, but my knees and shins got bruised by doing so. We are not unusually tall (5'10" and 6'1"), and my legs aren't super long; but we have never had an issue like that with a bathroom on any ship we have ever been on. I've seen small bathrooms on cruise ships, but I never had one that I literally could not fit into!

It looks like the inside and ocean view cabins don't have the same layout, so if we ever sailed her again., we would book any category but a balcony.

I agree! Poorly designed. I had a balcony cabin on the Gem a few weeks ago. I've cruised over 25 times and I can't recall a ship with a toilet area that was so uncomfortable. If they would at least get rid of that wall/sliding door between the toilet and sink, I might be able to get out without banging my elbows while shimmering out so I could pull up my pants. That wall/sliding door is so unnecessary and they should remove it.

  7. In the past, as a Platinum member, I rarely was charged for cappuccino in the dining rooms or specialty restaurants. This year, I'm noticing I'm being charged more often. I know it's not listed as a perk, and it's not a issue really since I usually have some OBC, but was wondering if anybody else experienced this.

  8. My suggestion is to bring a plastic blow-up neck pillow (like the ones for traveling on a plane) I use it when laying across the thermal spa, sitting in the hot tub and even laying on the loungers. I always find my neck/head gets uncomfortable after a while and these work great! Sometimes I'll use two, one under each arm just to float around.

  9. I was on this ship. Captain announced a delay in departure and indicated it was not a mechanical issue with ship but did not give a reason. From my observation, I saw 7 or 8 people getting off just minutes before we finally left. 2 appeared to be in uniform (police or some type of official?) 2 appeared to be medical (?) One was carrying what looked like a white styrofoam cooler along with a clear bag with some personal items. My husband pointed out a prescription pill bottle. There were 2 other males and 2 other females in regular clothes that may have been passengers. They didn't have any belongings with them. We assumed it was a medical issue. Maybe somebody took ill or got hurt, not necessary on board, but on shore since we didn't see anybody taken off the ship with a medical issue. This is all an assumption made by observation between myself and my husband. We didn't hear anybody discuss the situation and we didn't inquire. Now that you've mentioned it, I'm curious.

  10. the semi - enclosed designated smoking area pool side is right by the children's play area. this is ridiculous. people have the right to smoke but it shouldn't infringe upon those who do not want to be around it. and smokers shouldn't feel like criminals. they did a very poor job on the design of this ship and I would hope they find a way to reconfigure the casino and pool areas.
