  1. I can't see if this topic has come up or been discussed anywhere? I was on the repositioning trip from Shanghai to Sydney last month to this month and for the first time ran into a problem. The staterooms are lovely and the upgrade with the TV's is fantastic though there is a problem. The only thing you can do with these tvs is watch "Princess" on demand shows/movie or view the map. I do realize for the majority of cruisers this is no problem at all so no need to read further.

You are provided with a very basic remote control that will change channels and volume, However there is no access to changing to HDMI or to Usb. No matter how many times I went to the service desk, they either didn't understand my question or told me "someone" would come to the stateroom. As no-one could work this out they came to the conclusion that you basically can't use personal devices on the tv. As a video game junky I almost lost the plot, I went directly to Samsung and bought a TV in Busan Korea and installed on top of the fridge as there is a compatible outlet right there.

As extreme as this seems there are other options that work, Bring your own Samsung remote, Bring a universal remote or bring a samsung android phone, they all work. You're outta luck if your an apple device owner, apple products do not have IR capabilities.

There's my rant, Otherwise a beautiful ship and journey. And who knows? Maybe they will remedy this for Australia.

All of my Samsung Tv's don't require a remote to access the menu. It takes a bit of searching, but the controls are on the tv itself. Of course I wouldn't be surprised if the tv's on the ship lack those controls.

  2. How so?

I was thanking the person I replied to as to guiding me to an appropriate board. The mods haven't moved this thread yet and that's fine if it needs to be in another forum.

The second part was trying to clarify a bit more as to what the "Thoughts ?" question I was mentioned at the end of my OP.

I have no clue as to what would you found inappropriate in my response.

    Please enlighten me.

I believe they were saying the response from the TA was inappropriate. At least, that is the way I read it.

And Azamara and Celebrity will both allow you to accrue points that you can use on either line or Royal Caribbean, but Royal Caribbean points do not accrue to the other 2 lines.

My understanding is that the levels will be recognized on the other lines, but that the points cannot be combined. If that isn't true, can you provide a link that spells it out for me? I would love to add my Celebrity points to RCCL. Or did I misunderstand what you are saying?

  4. Because they bought a package that allows them to drink as much of RCCL's beer as they desire. Drinking a few of their own would mean a few less of RCCL's.

But against the rules and I wouldn't expect them to make an exception, because others would take advantage if it were their policy.

Thanks - obviously I had a momentary lapse of brain function.

  5. Might the $40 cover the cost of the tenders?

Interesting ... If Grand Cayman is charging RCI $40 per passenger just to allow people to come ashore and spend money there, doesn't that strike you as odd? I associate the concept of port fees with expenses that the port has to incur to provide facilities to docking ships. The key word there is "docking". There is no pier in Grand Cayman, so they charge $40 per person for a cruise ship to anchor off-shore. What a racket!
