Across from Pike Market, near the Original Starbucks are several fish mongers that’ll steam up Dungeness crab. Market Price. No where near a fine dining experience but very good food.
-
We fold the tags, then use packing tape on both the front and back, making them water resistant. Loop thru the handle and use more packing tape to complete the circle.

My mom wears black Merrell slides onboard. For Formal night she wears black socks and it is very hard to tell that she is wearing sport sandals under her black slacks.
Wear what is comfortable and stable.

You can smoke in the casino on the Paradise. The ship used to be totally non-smoking, but that didn't last long.
Last few times I've been on her (1/10, 3/09, 1/09) The casino has been non-smoking on the 4day. Smoking is allowed on the 3day.
-
Most casino onboard are on the small side. If you are looking for a non-smoking shipboard casino, the Carnival Paradise casino is usually non-smoking during the 4day cruise.
The Paradise also sails out of Long Beach.
-
How are you setting up your Sail & Sign? If you are setting it up with a credit card you can get money from the casino using the slot machines. No (ATM-like) fee to do this. It goes against your account as 'entertainment'. The casino attendants will show you how to do this.
Basically you take money off your S&S, putting it onto the machine. Then uploading the money to your Player's bank. The player's bank gets cashed out. Easier done than said.
We have been able to break larger bills down at the casino cashier also.

I'm glad you have someone to point you in the 'right ' direction. It's good that there is a family member to guide you through the service. A rabbi is never needed. Only a minyon of 10 for a complete service.
I just found out that Carnival is providing Kosher meals, as does HAL. I'm sure other do but these are the two that I know about.
There are travel agents/agencies that specialize in kosher/Jewish travel, they can be a big resource for you.

same here not the matress but bought 4 of the pillows and we love them we want the comforter but dont like the idea of it being white
Cover it with a duvet cover.
-
Not the mattresses, but I know poeple who have purchased the comforter and pillows. They are very happy with them.

We had 7446 and 7444 on the Splendor in June.
Be forewarned that the two center cabins (7446 & 7455) are 8 inches narrower than the other aft cabins. Yes, I measured.
The hallway formed by the bathroom and closets is narrow. My shoulders were brushing up on either side. The first closet, holding the robes, was only a foot deep. The hangars didn't load in regular hangar fashion, but as you would load hangers on hook.
There were two chairs (that reclined) and a small table on the balcony.
The good thing about the cabin was that it made no difference which hall you went down, eventually you got to your cabin.
The balcony of 7446 only opens to 7455. The other side is a steel wall.
-
Mom & Sis did it on the Spriit. They had such a good time they are planning on doing it on the Elation as well.
-
The balconies on the Elation are extremely small but the cabins are nicely arranged.
We prefer the cabins OV on the Riviera, Main and Upper decks.
-
Also what I used for travel -
-clip/string thing (dont know what its caleld, dentists put them on you, I made mine from ribbon and pacifier clips!)..........quote]
Alligator Clips

We've been on the Paradise and the Elation, two of Fantasy's sister ships.
We like being on the bottom three decks- Riviera, Main and Upper. Most of the Empress deck cabins are under public rooms.

Yogi,
Does Temple Beth Israel of the Pomona Valley sound familiar to you?
Kids went to preschool there. We are members over at Ontario.
ManateeMom- Sounds like you have the religious part all figured out. At that point the party would be like planning a 'wedding'. Check on the Wedding board for ideas. Might also want to ask over on the Cruising Jewish thread over in the Floataway lounge.
Do you need kosher food? Carnival does not offer kosher food. I know HAL does and I have heard it is pretty good. HAL won't kasher the kitchen but does prepare ready-to-serve kosher meals.

Do you really want to schlep a Torah?
We've been to B'nai Mitzvahs in hotels. One was when we were renovating our synagogue and another time it was with a Rent-a-Rabbi.
The ceremony can be held before the cruise and the cruise be the party.
Or have it at a Temple at a port of call. St Thomas has a lovely synagogue in the Sephardic tradition that is the oldest in the Western Hemisphere.
The problem with having the ceremony at a port of call is the weather doesn't always cooperate. Better chance of docking than tendering. If you have the Bar Mitzvah on the cruise the Rabbi's fare will also need to be paid.
The program Trope Trainer helped one of our daughters. We found it on the net for about $100.
The Torah does not have to be read on a Saturday, it can also be read on a Thursday.

On the Splendor in June Seth was making balloon animals for the Camp Carnival kids.
Seems that Carnival has only two comedians in LA. Lance and Seth - seen them both on the Splendor and the Paradise. We can practically do Lance's routine with him.
-
We usually do carryon and get to the ship after we can access our cabins.
-
I must be really tired tonight! I kept thinking - Why would you want to put MSG in a bottle and throw it overboard??? LOL!
It's OK, I thought it was going to be a thread about smuggling MSG onboard:p.

Make sure you use a Quart ziplock and not a sandwich size ziplock. Much more room.
Travel size everything. Either buy it or condense it. Substitute solid or powder for your liquid items if possible.
look at minimus.biz for the hard to find travel sized items.
I think Magellens has a cake mascara.

Cerviche is the soup, isn't it? I've never tried it. Was it good?
I havn't tried Carnival's Ceviche yet, but here is a recipe (not Carnival's):
http://www.cevicherecipe.org/peruvian-ceviche-recipes/peruvian-fish-ceviche-recipe/
In Ceviche, fish is 'cooked' with acidic juices like lemon, lime or orange. More like marinated fish and other ingredients, not as liquidy as a soup.

OK people, Meat covered in gelatin is called an Aspic. Popular at the turn of the 1900's. Wow, have tastes changed.
I always bring food on board. Ate it for lunch in the Long Beach terminal, a few weeks ago, when two people decided to leave the ship early and not tell anyone. :( Never anything big, just some candy and Pringles.
Smugglers Spam Martini, is it shaken or stirred?

Don’t think the Aquarium will hold luggage while you’re inside anymore. Could call and ask.
Could take a tour. Sun seeker is the usual go to company.
