Question 1.  If concierge class gets lunch in dining room on boarding day,  What dining room would it be at on Edge class ship?  They don't have a main dining room.

Celebrity Edge has four main dining rooms: Normandie, Tuscan, Cosmopolitan and Cyprus.

And the reason for this, as I understand it, is because the TA doesn’t “purchase” the OBC (put their money out there for it) until you sail.

The money covering TA OBC is sent to Celebrity corporate about a week or 2 prior to sailing. That information is transmitted from Celebrity corporate to the ship on turn around day.

The reason everything is done so close to the sail date is the cruise lines don't want the funds in their system until there is the slimmest of chances, like 99.5%, that the reservation won't cancel. This avoids added labor and time needed to process and refund cancelled TA OBC or other perks.

SOME of my friends and family think I'm nuts to ever get on a ship again that carries 5000 people on it. You know.....they may be right.

Will they think you are nuts to get on a ship with only 2500 people on it?

Will they think you are nuts to go to a sporting event with 25,000 people in attendance?

Will they think you are nuts to fly on an airplane with 250 people on it?

Will they think you are nuts to go to a theater, concert or show with 1250 other people there?

Will they think you are nuts to get on a bus with 25 people on it?

Will they think you are nuts to get on an elevator with 6 people on it?

Pay attention to the science, medical and travel advice being issued by the CDC and the experts. Assess your own personal risks.

If you allow friends and family to dictate your every movement you might as well just stay home forever.

Holland America is also giving onboard credit to those that do not cancel.  Very generous I thought

Princess offer for guests who keep their bookings – March 6—May 31, 2020
Guests who choose to keep their booking as currently scheduled for departures between March 6 and May 31 will receive the following Onboard Credit amounts (Note: OBC is automatically applied, no need to call Princess):

    • $100USD
    • $150USD
    • $200USD

For a Celebrity cruiser the financial inducement may not matter much but on the Carnival social media sites they are practically tears of joy over the 100-200 OBC and making people determined more than ever to get on the ship.  Different socioeconomic backgrounds but amazing people will trade safety for OBC with real world value of 30 cents on the dollar

Looks like you can add HAL and Princess to the lines offering this same inducement.

Despite your different socioeconomic background dig at Carnival cruisers, the HAL and PCL customers seem to be displaying the same tears of joy.

Did they say how long you had to cancel prior to sailing date? This will make me much more comfortable making my final payment, if it extends to my cruise.

Up to 48 hours prior to sailing date.

You get a 100% Future Cruise Credit for any penalties.

You then have 1 year from the date of issue to use the FCC to book another Celebrity cruise departing by December 31, 2021.

I needed to speak with my TA yesterday. After we dealt with my issue, I asked him how the Corona Virus was affecting his business. He said he had already lost $100,000 worth of bookings by cancellations. (And who knows  how much more by people not booking.)

I hope this crisis does not put travel agents, especially those who specialize in cruises out of business.

While a $100,000 loss in gross business is nothing to sneeze at, top producing agents will have $2 - $3 Million in annual sales on the books.

Every large company "messes" with them. Consider every restaurant, store and vacation destination has them. In my opinion it's a huge miss and turn off.

At a store or a restaurant you are physically presenting a card that can be swiped at the establishment and authenticated thru embedded coding and either accepted or declined instantly via the establishment's POS system that is connected to the business's main headquarters.

A non Interbank Gift Card transaction online thru a cruiseline website requires a different level of security authentication for both your and the cruise line's protection..

Royal Caribbean is not The Cheesecake Factory.

I recently moved from NYC to South Florida.  I have heard that some cruise lines maintain a list of local residents that can take advantage of a last minute cruise with as little as a day's notice.   If true, does anybody know which lines do that, and does anyone have experience doing it?

For various reasons, no such lists exist.

  9. With 2 weeks to go before the 3/1/20 Anthem is scheduled to depart, this was most likely a mass cancellation of a group of 100 that was being paid for by some large corporation as an incentive cruise, because all 50 open cabins are Category 1D and all are right next to each other on Decks 9, 12 and 13.

At a cost of @ $1000 per person, the organization that cancelled is out @ $100K.

Just off Symphony of the Seas this morning, only 2nd Royal cruise vs. over 40 Carnival.

This Symphony ship puts all other Carnival ships from Vista class down to shame.

That being said, the massive Symphony and her sister ships with their spectacular entertainment options like the Broadway production shows, combined with the Ice Skating shows, Aqua Theater, 8 story Abyss etc..   would also put to shame any ships sailing in the fleets of Norwegian, Princess, Holland America, Celebrity, MSC, Costa, Viking, Windstar, Oceania, Azamara, Disney, Virgin and others.

I have a 16 day TA in April to Europe and then an additional 10 days on land.     Anyone know what happens if cruises or flights are canceled for this reason when it comes to trip insurance?

    1 hour ago, Cb2534 said:

This is happening in China right now and tour operators have begun to send trip cancellation notices to customers through at least February.

If the TA cruise is cancelled by the cruise line, the cruise line will provide you a full refund. There would be no need for an insurance claim.

Once in Europe, if the flights for your 10 day land portion are cancelled by the airline due to a medical quarantine, they too should offer you a refund with no need for an insurance claim.

If you make the decision to cancel your TA cruise and the all of the arrangements for the 10 day land portion, and the air / hotel vendors are not sending cancellation notices (with refunds) due to a health epidemic and your insurance does not cover health epidemics, the costs are on you.

If we pay in full  before the final due date and then have to cancel, again BEFORE final due date, don't we get a full refund?

Same question with a non-refundable price paid BEFORE final due date.

If you pay in full before the final due date and you are booked with a FULLY REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT and you cancel before the final due date you will get a full refund.

If you pay in full before the final due date and you are booked with a NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT and you cancel before the final due date you will get a refund MINUS a $100 per person service fee.

....... she booked a 8 nights RCL early 2020 but the drinks package is like $1,100.00 for the 2 of them. Cost prohibitive.

I’ve yet to see any discount. Like $59.00 pp plus fees.

    Any chance of discount.

A deluxe beverage package for TWO that is discounted to $59pp per day for an 8 night cruise with the 18% Gratuity added will come to $1113.92
