I'm trying to decide between the 14-DAY GREAT LAND EXPLORER cruises leaving either July 17 or July 31.
-
I'm going on the 14-night HAL cruise next July.
I've booked privately 2 excursions to see bears. One in Ketchikan (flight to Anan Creek) & one in Kodiak.
What bear excursion have you booked in Kodiak?
-
HAL has a great 14-day round-trip cruise (Seattle to Seattle) on the Amsterdam. There are three cruises leaving in July and two in August. The cruises visit some very nice ports, like Anchorage, Homer, Kodiak, Icy Strait Point and Sitka in addition to those more commonly visited, and you'll see both Hubbard Glacier and Tracy Arm (Sawyer Glacier).
Yes! That is the one I am looking at as it visits many places I did not go to on my previous Alaska cruise (and some I did too).

I'm starting to look into a cruise to Alaska July or August 2017 with my 85 year old Mom whom is in quite good shape for her age. This will be my second but my Mom's first trip to Alaska. As far as I can tell it's the only trip she is serious about for her bucket list. Being that my Mom is older and we will be traveling from the east coast I think it would be best to do a round trip from Seattle or Vancouver.
Other than the usual I would like to see bears and salmon as my last trip was in June too early for that. My Mom just wants to see Alaska. On my last trip I did a self drive to Denali from Anchorage but I think that would be too much car time for my Mom so I was thinking of a 14 day cruise. I have cruised on HAL and Princess previously but I am not partial to any line in particular. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The simple solution is you can:
1- wait for the fog to dissipate after 10-20 minutes
2-keep your camera in a zip lock baggy the water droplets will form on the outside of the bag instead of on the camera

Thank you Dubrovniktravelady for this informative thread. I am trying to work my way through in it prep for my upcoming visit. We will be in port on a Sunday next month late August. Are there places closed on Sundays? Do Taxis and buses run as usual?

Thanks for the virtual tour! Nice write ups and photos too! What a lovely family you have! I'll keep many of your ideas in mind as I prepare for my Mediterranean cruise in a few weeks. It was nice to see you made such an effort to get to Venice. It is one of my favorite places and I have spent over 3 weeks there on 2 trips so far and more to come.

We are scheduled to go there in just over 3 weeks, can you explain more about the meetup point? Thanks for the tip!
Just returned from the Saint John Resort last week...Anyone who considers going - Make sure you are in place prior to your meeting time. We had scheduled a 10 a.m. pickup time and left the tender drop off point at 9:45 a.m.
We thought we had plenty of time to get from where the tenders drop you off to the pickup point which Saint John said was 150 meters. WRONG. It was a much further walk. Add to that, no signs or anyone to tell you where the Yacht Club was. We walked around in circles, back and forth.
It was very frustrating and no one wanted to help. We finally found a couple who had also booked and were left behind. They found someone to call the resort. The resort did not want to send their driver back as it would be at least 20 minutes. In the end, they did and the five of us made it to the resort.

I did the tour 2 years ago. Everybody says they love it but I didn't care for it. I felt more like I was a prisoner for 2 hours. You go into back rooms but the grandness of Doges Palace has more to do with the amazing large rooms and paintings that anyone can access as well as the amazing statuary in the courtyard. I did lots of research on Venice before I went so perhaps that was part of why I was bored but I much more enjoyed walking around on my own for 1.5 hours after that tour than the tour itself.

I use LightRoom 4 and PhotoShop CS6 plus a bunch of plugins.
Photoshop elements does much of what PhotoShop does except for some higher end stuff.
I do 80% in Lightroom and go to PhotoShop or one of the plugins with the other 20%
Just reading through some messages above, there seems to be some confusion. PS - PhotoShop is for both Mac and Windows, just different version are needed for each platform.

Great images, thanks for the Map.

I have been looking into flight excursions to see bears in Ketchikan and Kodiak. From what I have researched for Ketchikan July 1st to early August bear viewing observatory, Anan Creek. While August 1st and September 30th you can visit the bear viewing observatory at Traitors Cove. While for Kodiak I would do an excursion to Frazer Lake or the Katmai Coast. I should probably secure reservations for these two excursions as soon, if not before I book the cruise.
