    Here’s one for you......

Wife and I were scheduled to leave Saturday out of Tampa on Carnival Paradise. We made the decision to continue with the cruise and just be prudent and exercise good flu protocols. This morning at 11am my wife received an email from her employer “Sarasota Memorial Hospital” informing her that should she take the cruise, she would have to self quarantine for 14 days upon return....without pay!
They cited CDC and Florida health board announcements that both stated that their recommendations for cruise travel is to defer to a later date........They told her that if she goes, she is in violation of CDC and Florida.

We are less than the 3 days to go and so we now don’t qualify for Carnival’s new policy for cancellations.

I have been a RN for 42 years and this would make me furious. How did they know in the first place that she planned a cruise vacation? I have never been required to tell any employer my vacation plans. I am so sorry to hear this, however seems at this time Carnival is going to cancel it anyway.  Seriously, people have lost their minds over this.

  2. Don't know, but you have one of the best bartenders in the fleet. If you run into Marko, ask him for a Loritini. I bet he will remember and he will make something special for you with the flavors you like. I sailed with him twice, a year apart, and he made a drink for me on the first. A year later, her replicated it perfectly. Amazing!

  3. I've never tried it. The Tandoor Grill was Lido Deck starboard aft on the Triumph (if I remember correctly.) I would make a point of walking on the port side to avoid the smell. When I hung out at that pool, I always looked for a chaise on the port side to stay away from the smell. I don't know what it was, but once (when the grill was closed) they had a big tray of what appeared to be some kind of seasoning (green) with a horrible strong smell that I think was the source.

It must have been cilantro. REALLY? On the other hand, I make a point of walking ON the port side to avoid the smell of cigarettes.

  4. Okay, 80000 Plats - let's assume 40000 couples and assume that they take two cruises a year, divide by 52 weeks and 24 ships - that's an average of 64 plats a cruise. This makes sense since at the Plat/Diamond party there were only about 30 people. So how come on that same cruise there were over 350 waiting for a tender to Belize, no room to sit or stand in the lounge, a mad rush of humanity to board the ship, and a line of four to six people at rush times at the guest services line.

HectorA, also keep in mind that lots of us who are Platinum/Diamond have cruised many times, and have seen the same ports many times. We may not necessarily disembark in every port. Also, there are children who are platinum.. you may not see them at the party, but a family may have 5-6 kids, skewing your numbers. Also, certain times of the year, cruising is very heavy out of FL, but zero in Alaska and not as heavy in CA, and I really am not sure about Australia. Nothing to Bermuda, this time of year. You know what they say about Stats. The number of plat/diamond guests will vary per party, and that does not mean those people are not there, just that sometimes they may not choose to attend the party. Last month, our Past guest party was quite full. I think it is hit or miss. Also, Plat/diamond have their own line at guest services and... sometimes just don't need it.

  5. Before people start a thread asking why she is still in port at 5pm, 6pm or 7pm it's because they are doing routine maintenance. We were told when checking in would be 3-4 hrs late due to routine maintenance.

We were on the Fantasy just after dry dock, did not leave New Orleans until after midnight, though scheduled for 5 pm. Doesn't explain the Breeze but if you are onboard, does it matter?, Enjoy!

  6. You can sign up prior to, but it's not too late when you board. You will find a display and sign ups at embarkation. We have done it 3 times on different ships/different menus and love Chef's Table. Each time we were seated side by each, as I like to call it, rather than across from each other as it should be. :) It doesn't really matter to me though. We have always thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

  7. Is there anywhere on the Valor where I can order this drink? I have heard so much about it and am bummed to find out The Valor doesnt have the Alchemy bar where it is made. :(

Yes Ma'am, my husband had them nightly made by Marko (Polo) in the "wine bar" on repositioning cruise from San Juan to Port Canaveral. Yummy. He made me something special not on the menu that was awesome. You just tell him your favorite flavors and he will create something for you.

  8. Small world. I'm originally from China grove. Not too far from Cleveland. My mom went to App state.

I can top that. I am from Port Saint Lucie now, but born in Burlington, NC and raised in Black Mountain NC-family still all there. And I agree, if I can help it I will NEVER again live where it snows and is cold all winter long!

  9. I am looking at a 5 day On Fascination to Nassau and Half Moon Cay or a 5 day on Valor to Nassau, Half Moon Cay, and Freeport. The prices are very similar.

I have been to Nassau twice, and I think that stops there make a nice uncrowded "sea day" for us. I have never been to Half Moon Cay nor Freeport.

I have been on 2 prior cruises: a 5 day Nassau/ Key West cruise on Fascination and an 8 day eastern carribbean on Liberty. Our Liberty cruise was our all time favorite vacation.

We will be driving to port. Our drive to Jacksonville to board Fascination is 11 hours. Our drive to Port Canaveral to board Valor is 13 hours.

So, would visiting Freeport and sailing on the Valor instead of Fascination be worth an additional 4 hours of driving roundtrip?

Not to me it wouldn't. But have you considered Charleston or Baltimore departures? Seems you could drive to either in much less time.

  10. How does one go overboard on a ship unless copious amounts of alcohol are involved? Well, it's one of the Spring break weeks, so no surprise.

Sorry if I do not sound sympathetic. This just messes up everyone's cruise. :(

Tis the season. 20 something Girl stepped off the pier in Jamaica today, Breeze passenger, or at least as reported by someone on cruisecritic. I agree, unless you are just being extremely careless on a pier, or doing something you shouldn't be doing on a ship, or jump off intentionally, no way are you "falling overboard".

  11. Is there any rhyme or reason to what way the Breeze faces in the Port of Miami? Like does it always face the turn basin following a 6 day or face the ocean following an 8 day or is it just random? I was watching it today on the webcam and it made me wonder...

The direction a ship ports or docks can vary anywhere, depending on currents, weather, winds, sea conditions, or other ships that are porting or departing.

  12. It's a question that comes up all the time, and I thought it'd be nice if there were a thread that people could post to and refer back to when questions come up about Guarantee Cabin Assignments.

My hope for the thread would just be a list of facts in the format:

    --------------------

    Date:

    Ship:

    Class of Guarantee:

Cabin Assigned: (or deck and cabin type if you don't want to share cabin numbers)

Date Assigned: (i.e. 3 weeks after booking.... 1 week before saildate.... at the dock)

    --------------------

It's been a while since I've booked a guarantee, but my results are:

    --------------------

    Date: 2004-04-17

    Ship: Carnival Triumph

    Class of Guarantee: Inside Guarantee

    Cabin Assigned: Inside - Deck 8 - 4F

    Date Assigned: At the dock

    ---------------------

    and

    --------------------

    Date: 2006-08-19

    Ship: Carnival Glory

    Class of Guarantee: Inside Guarantee

    Cabin Assigned: Inside - Deck 8 - 4G

    Date Assigned: At the dock

    ---------------------

It'd be great to see what others have booked, been assigned, and when. Anyone?

    Date: March 22, 2015

    Ship: Valor

    Class of Guarantee: Balcony

Cabin Assigned: 8E mid ship Lido

Date Assigned: Assigned March 2, 2015, 20 days out

  13. I switched to a balcony guarantee on the Valor (March 22nd) during the Halloween sale too and am anxiously awaiting my assignment as well. All of the balconies on my sailing are now showing as sold out, so I'm hoping that means they are working on the assignments now.

I hope you get assigned a great cabin!

Check on Carnival site-We just got ours for the same cruise this morning. I am quite happy with my 8E on Lido!
