Much of the trip it is true that either land on both sides or sea on both sides. The places where it might make a difference can depend on the forecast route and I can't see that for 2025. If the route is the same as 2023 & 2024, I would say Port, as the part returning around the Kenai peninsula to Glacier NP port will be toward land.

Our route from Seattle in 2018, it would have been Starboard, as we hugged the shore on the way north instead.

Thank you.  Trip will be R/T Vancouver.  Will book portside.

I was on the Celebrity Millennium for two weeks back to back last July.  We had two solid weeks of nothing but rain, waves, and wind.  It was my 21st cruise to Alaska, and I never had such rotten weather.  OTOH, I’ve sailed mostly during Memorial Day weeks in May and although misty and a day or two of rain, especially in Ketchikan, we always had a few days of sunshine.

I’m booked on the Nieuw Amsterdam 14 day trip beginning in early May next year just to see the new to me ports.

  3. Looking to take a sea only Alaska cruise in 2025.   Since nothing is listed yet, looking at 2024 to get an idea of what's available.  But when I go to destination, the only choice is Alaska and Yukon, which lists land/sea cruisetours only.   Anybody know how I can find sea only cruises?

Found a reference outside of HAL website about a 14-Day Great Alaskan Explorer in 2024 which would be perfect for 2025.  But apparently it is only in May and September.  If that's the case, anybody been on it during those two months?  Think those would be the worst weather.

    Thank you.

  4. Saw the listing last night but HAL was closed.  Called first thing this morning and the stateroom we wanted was taken but got the one next door to it.

Thank you to the person who posted that this would be released this month!!!  Very exciting - we'll get to celebrate both Christmas and the New Year while traveling the way we like best now (cruising) on our favorite cruise line (HAL) and to a favorite place we've been to many many many times since our honeymoon 42 years ago.

  5. Our March 8 - 19, 2023 Eurodam 11-Day Panama Canal Sunfarer was changed to March 14 - 25,  2023.

Received HAL's email on 6/14/2023.  It didn't mention Eurodam would not be stopping at Half Moon.

It did say pre-paid shore excursions would be moved to the new dates.  Just today I logged into HAL's website and they didn't reimburse me for our Half Moon shore excursion and it doesn't show we booked and paid for our shore excursions on Aruba and Curacao.  It doesn't even mention flight transfers, etc.  Going to call them tomorrow but wondering if others on this re-scheduled cruise are having the same problems.  Just stumbled on this thread today.  Thank you.

  6. Just cancelled our Koningsdam November 2021 Mexican Riviera cruise.  Now fully vaccinated passengers need a covid 19 negative test and who knows if you'd get the results in time.  Had been thinking about cancelling long ago when restrictions were being discussed such as wearing masks.  As much as we wanted to cruise again, just don't think it will be as enjoyable at this time.  We lost our future cruise credit from a cancelled cruise in March 2020.  Oh well.  Hopefully things will be back to normal for our 2023 cruise.  We're not getting any younger and our window for traveling is closing.

Sure about that??????  I just went on and it showed 65 results for September 27th through November 30th 2020. Not that any of them will operate, but they are showing as bookable.

It must have been a glitch.  Sorry.  Attempted to do a mock Mexico booking for Nov. 2020 as a comparison to November 2021, but it wouldn't take after several attempts.  Then I went back to the Plan a Cruise page and saw the calendar blank for October and November.

I have learned today that Holland America and Seaborn are canceling ALL cruises through November 30, 2020.

I also learned that when they sail again HAL will have fewer ships and HAL will probably be a much smaller line.

This is what I learned late this afternoon.

Just checked the HAL website and there are no cruises until December 2020.

  9. Just cancelled our March 18, 2020 11-night Partial Panama Canal Cruise on the Zuiderdam.  We are extremely concerned  about coronavirus and are elderly.  It's just too much to have to fly from Calif. to DFW to Fort Lauderdale with a 3 hr. layover in DFW in both directions.  Plus a pre-night hotel stay and then taking our chances on a cruise ship and shore excursions.

We are most afraid of getting stuck in a quarantine or being taken to a hospital in one of the ports if we did test positive.

But also, we wouldn't be able to enjoy the cruise wondering what's going on and constantly wanting to watch the news to stay informed and looking around everything someone coughed.  It was worth the cancellation fee for piece of  mind.

This was to be a cerebration of a special wedding anniversary and DH's birthday.   This is the 3rd time we've had to cancel this cruise and figured this would be the charm rather than a curse for us.  Going to wait it out and see about booking something in 2021 or just wait until the Ryndam's Caribbean schedule.  We're going to pass on this particular itinerary thinking it just wasn't meant to be.

We bought the Platinum Insurance when we booked  (March 3, 2018) but missed the 100% refund.  Our penalty is $1,374.00 with a refund of $7,852.  The refund includes airfare, transfers, hotel stays.  Our shore excursions will be refunded separably.

Some people like the train ride to Panama City with a stop at the Miraflores locks -- bus back to Colon.

Lately there has been offered a new excursion to take you and show you the new canal.

Hi Krazy Kruizers,  On the train ride to Panama w/stop at the Miraflores locks -- is there much to see on the train ride part?  And what side of the train is best to sit on.  We've got this excursion booked for March 2020.  Thank you.

  11. Thank-you voljeep for the information.  That would be a substantial "refund."  However, had we wanted a less expensive cruise price, we would have booked a less costly stateroom.  We're just fussy about such things - type of stateroom and location of it.

Would think that response to this offer will be brisk. So  Good Luck to anyone taking advantage of it.  You might even be able to take another cruise!!!  Wow!

  12. Will be sailing on the Royal Princess for the 12-night Alaska cruise out of San Pedro, CA on September 17, 2019.

Just got a Move Over Offer email to downgrade our standard mini-suite on the Aloha Deck to an obstructed balcony somewhere on the ship.  And they will give us 50% off our cruise fare via On Board Credit.

Never heard of such a thing.  Why would they do this?  First of all, we have no interest in downgrading and second--there's no way we could spend that amount of money on-board.

    Why would they do this?

    Thank you.

If you look at the sketch of the routing for this voyage

    https://www.princess.com/find/cruiseDetails.do?voyageCode=1935

...it shows the ship does not traverse the Inside Passage between Vancouver Island and the British Columbia coast either going up north or when returning southbound. Only the open jaw Vancouver/Whittier sailings do.

Have looked at the sketch but couldn't and still cannot figure it out.  The cruise is advertised as Inside Passage with Glacier Bay but I guess the 7 Days at Sea are 7 days being tossed around in the Pacific Ocean.  We've done a R/T Vancouver 7-night Alaska cruise that started up the Inside Passage and back through it again.  So I had been trying to figure how where in the Inside Passage the Royal would would be in.  Thank you for your help.

  14. Am totally confused and lost with the new Cruise Critic site.

Have tried several times to insert our 2019 cruise but nothing happens after I save it.  I tried to limit the expanded signature to only 6 lines but nothing takes after I hit save.  I even deleted all prior cruises and that doesn't even take.

Anybody know how to make changes stick?

    Thank you.

  15. Have been trying to access Cruise Critic for days and cannot figure out what has been done to it.  So excuse me if this ends up in the wrong place.

Recently booked the R/T Los Angeles cruise to Alaska for September 17, 2019 on the Royal Princess to avoid flying.

There are 3 days At Sea going to Alaska and 2 days at Sea returning.

Question:  Between Glacier Bay and Victoria is also At Sea.  Is this At Sea Day in the Inside Passage?  Or do we exit the Inside Passage, go to Victoria and then head home?

    Thank you.

  16. "cheap" fare? on a 51 day cruise using the non refundable fare I would save $250 pp 18 months out?!?! I don't call that a cheap fare! And also in my case there was no other opinion.... Just craziness. I called HAL and that is how I found out the "discount" for a cruise 18 mo. away was $250.00. I just wish HAL would stop all their "sale" BS and just list the price for the cabins on the website. I get sick of checking to see if the sale is over so I can book at the "real" price!

    Agree with the above.

We booked a March 18, 2020 cruise on March 3, 2018 and after reading all the threads about the non-refundable this & that and payment in full, I still don't understand what's what. We were offered a $200 pp discount if we did the non-refundable fare/payment in full. We declined even though we purchased the platinum insurance.

We were really surprised to get $265 pp off the cruise fare because of some kind of casino play. Never heard of this and we're not high rollers, unless it's based on time spent vs. amount spent.
