We are booked on the APEX in January 2021 and I am thinking about driving to the port instead of flying. Has anyone parked there? How hard is it to get into the parking area? Are there enough spots to accommodate everyone? How long is the walk to the terminal and are there shuttles? I have only ever driven to New Orleans port and it was a hassle when it came time to disembark, due to the shuttling to the parking deck. Any advise? Thanks CC friends!

I work in a blood center and he is correct. They have no idea if Convalescent Plasma will help the COVID patients. We have only been offering it for about a week and we can't keep it on the shelf. The hospitals are asking for it as fast as we can get it tested. On an interesting note, there was a rumor earlier that COVID effects more people with blood type "A". Most of our Convalescent Plasma donors are type A. Usually in any donation category the majority of donors are about equal type "A" and type "O", followed by "B" then "AB". We actually have one local patient who is blood type "B" and we have had to give him our "AB" Convalescent Plasma, because we have yet to find a donor who is his blood type. I will be interested in seeing how the numbers play out.

My health insurance plan allows for a monthly health coaching session by phone with a RN. My April meeting was this afternoon. I asked him about what he has heard about testing for antibodies for the virus. His response: "We are getting conflicting information. But, plasma is being donated from those who have recovered and used. It's too soon to tell if this will work."

I've seen a thread asking about excursions in these ports (Cozumel, Belize, MB Roatan < in that order) which had great advice but I couldn't find details on things to do for little to nothing.
On my upcoming cruise in May 2019 on the Glory leaving NOLA I am traveling with a rather large group of middle aged adults and young children. We had a thought to try and do the most basic and inexpensive things that would appease everyone on port days. We are trying to get a feel of these destinations their beaches, shopping and modes of travel.
Are there free or inexpensive beaches good for snorkeling for the children?
We would appreciate anyone who is willing to paint a picture so that we could develop our own itineraries.
:cool::halo:
Years ago, I would take my daughter on cruises every couple of years. I was a single mom, so it took all I had to get us on the ship and pay the DSC. one of the best things we did was go into a convenience store, Mega (Cozumel), or market and buy small snacks and candy. We had never seen many of the items offered and did not speak Spanish, so we just picked up whatever looked interesting. We then had a “tasting” where we took pictures of each other as we took the first bite. I rarely spent more than $10 in a port and we had so much fun. DD was able to buy whatever she wanted and we had a little culinary adventure. The pictures are now in a scrapbook and it made for some of our best vacation memories!

Amazon sells shampbooze bottles with seals, as well as sunscreen and lotion bottles for poolside. They are food grade plastic and the labels are changed periodically. May be worth a try.

Wednesday, April 15th - Day 4, continued
The sauna was also very large with plenty of space to accommodate a wheelchair. Had I chosen to use it, I would have transferred and sat on one of the wooden benches.
The sauna was very inviting.
Let's just add that to the list of things I want to try during my next cruise.Next on my list was the gym. I was curious to see if they had a handcycle cardio machine. I was a bit disappointed to see that they didn't. Not that I would have gone to the gym during that cruise, but I could see myself spending some time at the gym during a solo cruise. Now that I think of it, that's pretty much the best excuse not to do your cardio. They do, however, have a bunch of free weights and strength training machines that would have been easy to transfer onto. Oh, well. Maybe next time.
Oi! I can hear you laughing at my cruise newbie naïveté. Quit it!
From the gym, you can access the Spa Veranda at the front of the ship. I was excited to check it out, but it was so windy that I literally couldn't push myself, which made a few people in the gym chuckle. Needless to say I didn't linger. I don't have any pictures of the gym because it was extremely crowded when I went there and I'm not comfortable enough writing reviews and taking pictures to be that person taking pictures of all the motivated and sweaty people.
It was almost 7:00, so I headed back to Deck 14 to meet my travelling peeps. Mom and Aunt were already there, and Aunt was very excited about the lovely islands we were passing. Again, I ate all the bacon, this time with the tiny croissants they had. After breakfast, we went back to our cabins to watch us sail into St. Kitts.
We could see another ship already in port and while I could see that it was Royal Caribbean, I couldn't see which one it was. It looked big, though. As we were pulling into port, I could see the yellow building that would be the meeting point for our tour, so it was reassuring to see that it would be very easy to find.
Unable to stand still, I decided to head up to Deck 14 to take a look at the other ship. It was BIG! I couldn't believe how close we were! I was a bit nosy for a while and had a look at what the people were doing on their balconies, hoping to catch someone picking their nose or scratching their butt. Sadly, everyone was very well behaved.
I can state from personal observation, that nose picking is a frequent event at red lights and stop signs....... just look in your rear view mirror.

I don't know if anyone else has posted this, as I didn't read every response, but.........
My dad is an auto mechanic and we always had brake cleaner around the garage. My dad would put it on oily stains and they would disappear like magic.
Hope this helps!

I have seen Shampbooze on the Amazon website...... may be an option. I plan to just bring a couple of bottles of wine and pay the corkage fee....... still come out better than the prices onboard..... 24 bucks for tisdale skunk wine?????? no thanks NCL! I do however like Sutter Home :)

I was wondering how to subcribe to a review. Anyone know?

This conversation reminds me of an episode of Parks and Rec. The local burger joint had changed their large drink to a 1 gallon size. It was a hysterical episode.

If you can't sleep without your own pillow, bring it. Many folks do bring their own pillows. I would suggest a brightly colored pillowcase, so it doesn't get mixed up with the ship's bedding!
I prefer my own pillow, but can do without for 7 days.
I also bring along an extra pillowcase. I can't stand the thought of my pillow hitting the floor then having to put my face on it. Ugh! In addition to this admitted OCD problem, I take all of my personal bedding accutraments (CPAP, eyemask, pillow and Vick's ointment) and put them away so the room steward doesn't touch them. The thought of all my things I use on my face being touched by the same hands that pick up dirty towels and dump the garbage just sends me into panic mode. I also bring lysol or bleach wipes and wipe down the handles, sink, remote control, light switches and anything else in the room that are touched alot. I do this every day after the room has been tidied by the room steward. I'm not sure, but I may have a slight problem.....

Years ago after my exhusband and I divorced, I loved getting the telemarketing calls.......
May I speak with Edward?
HE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE!!!! (said in a wailing desperate tone)
It was amazing how quickly they apologized and said goodbye.

By the way.... Sarge, where is the rest of the review? I am loving it so far!

LAXATIVES!!!!! You would be surprised how hard it is to find them on the ship, and in port.

I love kids' date=' have had a few, and am still surrounded with scads of neices, nephews, grandkids but have NEVER cruised with any youngster under the age of 12. Vacations with the younger ones (6 to 12) have always been vacations of the kids type...Disneyland, beach trips, national parks. Anyone under 6 has been left home.
I frequently see families with babies (and I mean teeny weeny babies), a couple still in diapers (that can't be fun on vacation) and a preschooler or two. Mom and Dad (and the Grandparents if they are roped into coming along) spend all their time feeding, watching, running after, disciplining, cleaning up after, etc. their brood and don't seem to have any Mommy Daddy time, or adult conversation.
Most children don't remember what they did in life before the age of 6 and don't care about a lot until they are 12 as far as "doing" something different on vacation. So why do parents do it? Just wondering....and I'm not complaining as long as they don't cry in my ear, make stinkies during dinner, or don't knock me down as they are running as fast as they can to get away from Daddy. They are someone else's headache, not mine.[/quote']
I wanted to spend the time with my daughter. I wanted to have the memories of watching her enjoy herself and have fun. We have pictures, so if she doesn't remember, they will refresh her memory. The most important thing to me was, you can't get that time with them back, and the opprtunity to make those memories is only with you for a brief moment, take advantage of it.

OK-so these three arent from a cruise (well it was a "land cruise") This one is sunrise over the Black Hills South Dakota
Sunset over the Badlands South Dakota
and finally sunrise over the Badlands.
Beautiful places to see if you can, even though it wasnt a cruise!:)
Your post made me think of the old Emmy Lou Harris song, "The Ballad of Sally Rose". That is still one of my favorite albums, if my CD ever gets scratched up I will be heartbroken.

It's a "menu" of the types of pillows available. Soft, hard, medium, feathers, foam, etc. LOL
I thought that may be what it was, but I was just too curious and had to ask. Thanks

So..... please pardon my ignorance, but...... What is a pillow menu?

My daughter (who was eleven) and I were cruising several years ago, and we kept noticing this man who was at a nearby table. He looked to be in his early to mid fifties, and he was seated with six or seven attractive women who looked to be in their early twenties. This guy showed up at dinner each night in a great mood, talking very loudly and holding a beer. The ladies who were his tablemates did not appear charmed in the least, but he didn't seem to notice. One night my daughter and I were observing his boisterous behavior and he did the oddest thing...... He took the bread off his plate, wiped the food off his mouth then bit the bread....... yes, he used the bread for a napkin!!!!! He continued to do this through the rest of the meal. I was appalled and tickled at the same time.

A 400lb guy in a speedo.
How could you see the speedo?

I always love it when someone does "Sweet Home Alabama"

I'm with SEA42. I can totally see myself putting something cheerful on the wall not realizing the damage that could be done. I have never intentionally done things to damage property that is not my own. I never let my daughter be a destructive menace. Nor did she jump on the hotel beds or couches when we traveled (this is a huge pet peeve), and she as a result is very respectful of other's property. I would hope this was just an accident due to a manufacturing flaw, not total disregard of the damage being done to the walls.

Shewt,......I'm gonna do THAT anyway!:D
Yeah..... Me too :D
