And the staff does treat you better. I don' know if they feel sorry for you or think you are brave. I don't care what anyone thinks.

I also cruise solo and thoroughly enjoy it.  And I generally prefer to eat my meals alone. This tends to generate a few questions from the dining staff. On a Royal Caribbean cruise I think one particular waiter in a specialty restaurant felt so sorry for me he didn’t charge me for my wine!  When I asked about it, he just shrugged and said no problem. I left him a very nice tip!

  2. I have sailed solo on Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Norwegian.  I didn’t notice any significant differences among the three as far as being solo.  Each had gatherings for solos (in which I did not participate).  I have found that traveling as a solo I can interact with others as much or as little as I wish. Cruises for me are what I make them, not necessarily what the cruise line do or don’t offer to solos. Enjoy yourself!

  3. I’m arriving in Boston on the afternoon of June 20 for a cruise leaving June 22, so I have one full day on the 21st to hit the highlights. I will be staying at the Residence Inn in the Seaport area and will not be renting a car. Is there much that I walkable from my location?  I’m also open to restaurant suggestions. Thanks!

  4. My New England/Canada cruise will be stopping in Sydney. Trying to determine what to do in this port. I looked at a coal miners excursion but decided against it when I read you hike half a mile underground. It’s the underground part that bothers me!  I’m considering the Fortress of Louisbourg tour. Any suggestions?

  5. I’m currently booked on HAL for this itinerary for mid-May. I would love to hear from anyone who has cruised a similar itinerary at the same time of year.  Is this a good time to see spring blooms?  What is the weather like?  I have also posted this on the HAL board. Thanks!

    1. I love waking up in a new place
    2. I love not having to make any decisions other than where I am going to eat and what delicious drink I’m going to try.
    3. I love being able to get away from the constant demands of my job - being out at sea makes it much easier to unplug!
    4. I love visiting so many various places that I probably would never visit except on a cruise

  6. I will be in San Juan at the end of the month with a Celebrity cruise. Our port time is 3:30 to 11:00. I have considered just walking around OSJ on my own but wanted to know if this is safe for a solo female. Thanks!

  7. Okay, I understand food is a subjective area, but here goes. My only experience with RC was a cruise last June on Majesty. The food was decent but certainly nothing to write home about. The exception was the Chef's Table which was fantastic! Now I'm cruising in May on Freedom. Can I expect the same so-so food? I do plan to try a couple of specialty dining venues

  8. There are specifics such as $30 dining credit and others. Didn't see the need to list them. I asked the travel agent if I would see anything on my cruise planner and was told RC should put the "coupon book" in the cabin. They called it a negotiated booking with RC. I'll probably just wait until I board to book anything. Just curious if anyone else had any experience with this
