I have sailed solo on Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Norwegian. I didn’t notice any significant differences among the three as far as being solo. Each had gatherings for solos (in which I did not participate). I have found that traveling as a solo I can interact with others as much or as little as I wish. Cruises for me are what I make them, not necessarily what the cruise line do or don’t offer to solos. Enjoy yourself!

I’m arriving in Boston on the afternoon of June 20 for a cruise leaving June 22, so I have one full day on the 21st to hit the highlights. I will be staying at the Residence Inn in the Seaport area and will not be renting a car. Is there much that I walkable from my location? I’m also open to restaurant suggestions. Thanks!

I’m going to be there in late June. Still worthwhile to go to Louisburg?

138East - thanks for the heads up! Fortunately, I’m able to use some hotel reward points for my pre-cruise hotel.

My New England/Canada cruise will be stopping in Sydney. Trying to determine what to do in this port. I looked at a coal miners excursion but decided against it when I read you hike half a mile underground. It’s the underground part that bothers me! I’m considering the Fortress of Louisbourg tour. Any suggestions?

Andi - I did get some responses on the HAL board. Most reported less than ideal weather! Most also reported a wonderful cruise! I made the decision to move my trip to later in June, but I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to cold weather!

Thank you for the replies. This has been helpful. I have some things to think about!

I’m currently booked on HAL for this itinerary for mid-May. I would love to hear from anyone who has cruised a similar itinerary at the same time of year. Is this a good time to see spring blooms? What is the weather like? I have also posted this on the HAL board. Thanks!

I’m currently booked for this itinerary on the Zaandam for mid-May. I would love to hear from anyone who has done a similar itinerary in the month of May. Is this a good time for seeing spring blooms? What is the weather like? Thanks!

The only thing I would add is - enjoy Alaska. It is amazing! Don’t let all the planning distract you from the experience. Have a wonderful trip!

I’m considering a dining package on my up coming cruise on the Sun. For past cruisers on the Sun, did you visit any specialty dining venues and what are your thoughts? Thanks

- I love waking up in a new place
- I love not having to make any decisions other than where I am going to eat and what delicious drink I’m going to try.
- I love being able to get away from the constant demands of my job - being out at sea makes it much easier to unplug!
- I love visiting so many various places that I probably would never visit except on a cruise

Have you ever been to melia OP?? I was thinking about that or Balmoral island we have 3 ships in port.
No, I wanted more of a beach day and read good things about Melia. Thought I’d give it a shot!
-
Only four ships is Nassau is a light day. No worries. ;)
Good to know!

I have checked and there will be four ships in Nassau when our ship docks there at the end of June. Thought about going to Melia or Atlantis. Will the crowds just be impossible for either?

I just searched the NCL website for Norwegian Sun in June and July 2018 and found no gaps in the schedule. Four day cruises every Monday, three day every Friday
Thanks fishywood - not sure what I was doing wrong on my search!
-
I decided to see if there was a price drop on my cruise at the end of June on the Norwegian Sun. My cruise is no longer listed as one of the cruise dates on the NCL site. Does this mean the cruise is sold out?

I went to resortforaday.com and there were a couple of different options. One included a $50 beverage credit. The cost for it was $95. Does not include any food.

I already purchased a day pass at the Marriott resort, so I'm pretty locked in to that.

Anyone know how long it takes to get from Crown Bay to Frenchman's Reef and back again. Will be in port from 8 to 5 and want to make sure I leave Frenchman's Reef in plenty of time to get back to the ship.

Solo
in San Juan, PR
I will be in San Juan at the end of the month with a Celebrity cruise. Our port time is 3:30 to 11:00. I have considered just walking around OSJ on my own but wanted to know if this is safe for a solo female. Thanks!

Okay, I understand food is a subjective area, but here goes. My only experience with RC was a cruise last June on Majesty. The food was decent but certainly nothing to write home about. The exception was the Chef's Table which was fantastic! Now I'm cruising in May on Freedom. Can I expect the same so-so food? I do plan to try a couple of specialty dining venues

They did say I would not see anything on cruise planner. And I agree, it is a little vague. I think I got a good deal on the cruise, extras or no extras, so it's all good either way! 😊

There are specifics such as $30 dining credit and others. Didn't see the need to list them. I asked the travel agent if I would see anything on my cruise planner and was told RC should put the "coupon book" in the cabin. They called it a negotiated booking with RC. I'll probably just wait until I board to book anything. Just curious if anyone else had any experience with this
Why travel solo?

I also cruise solo and thoroughly enjoy it. And I generally prefer to eat my meals alone. This tends to generate a few questions from the dining staff. On a Royal Caribbean cruise I think one particular waiter in a specialty restaurant felt so sorry for me he didn’t charge me for my wine! When I asked about it, he just shrugged and said no problem. I left him a very nice tip!
