  1. I think the best advice is to decide in ADVANCE what price for what upsell category and amount would be okay with you. If you are lucky enough to receive an offer at all, then you would know whether you should counteroffer, or just say no. That's the kind of decision which you can make much less stressful by considering it in advance and knowing your limits.

If SO and I decided that we'd upgrade from AE to AC (or better) for no more than $200 per person, and we got a call regarding an upsell at $400 per person -- we'd counteroffer, and if rejected still be glad with what we had. If we got a call with an upsell at $1000 more per person, we'd say thanks, but no thanks.

If we got a call at $300 more per person, that's the only "gray area" we'd have, and it would be my fault -- anything less would be a no-brainer (because we figured out our views in advance) and a reasonable amount more would trigger "counteroffer" -- but my SO would say "we decided on $200 more and this is outside that, so 'no,'" while I would be dithering (I'm a Libra!). :)

Still in most cases deciding in advance on YOUR "hot button" numbers is good advice -- the odds are against you getting a call of any kind (within ten days of sailing most ships are full and no calls are made), but it's empowering to have an idea of what you are, or are not, willing to do.

    I am a Libra too, lol...:D

bottom line is, the rep told me to call them back when i decide if the room is still available. I have their phone number so im not expecting them to call me, i am to call them when i decide.

I have a BA aft room so im very happy with the room I have, as time goes by and its still available i will give it a shot for a great rate:D

thanks for all the great advice everyone!

  2. If you are already planning to say NO, then you might as well try for a lower price. I would not count on them calling you back because one of the next few people might say yes.

Thanks, They said I could call them back after I talked it over with the DH, but for some reason I get "shy" when asking for a deal:o. I am not in a hurry if its still available then fine, but im thinking if you wait till your sail date gets within 10 days the discount is much better

  3. Think i have read before where people have been offered upsells, and have negotiated the price. Is it a good idea to negotiate the price? do most people either accept the price or do you try to haggle?I am asking b/c I never knew you could do this, ive only negotiated the price on a car.lol.was offered an upsell yesterday but it still was a bit too high, so im thinking i will wait and see if the price drops closer to sailing or throw out a price to them ,thanks for your imput:)

  4. I am still looking for my new credit card of choice. Is anyone looking at Citi Cash Returns Mastercard? Although, it only pays 1% cash back on all purchases, it pays an additional 4% cash back on over 400 participating merchants INCLUDING NCL, Carnival, Celebrity, RCI, etc. You can also purchase gift certificates for some normal purchase stores like CVS, BB&B, etc. at an additional 4% cash back. I would not use the online shopping merchants. There is no limit to how much you can earn. It has the other bells and whistles including travel insurance, car rental insurance, extended warranty, etc. There is also a 20% bonus on cash back earned the first 12 months. (meaning if you earn $100 cash back they will send you an additional $20) Since we have two NCL cruises coming up this year (one with 8 of us all on our credit card which still has a $4000 balance) and all the money we spend in the casino I may try this card for a year. There is NO annual fee. We don’t carry a balance so it doesn’t matter what the rates are.

**Just typing this I think I have convinced myself to give it a try. I will call first to make sure I have all the facts right. We have a Citi ThanK You point card but I am afraid the value of the points will be going down.

    Any ideas/comments?

I will be using my Discover card in Feb. they have 5% cash back for tavel from jan-march, you do need to sign up for it, worth it if you have a cruise planned during those months...:)

  5. Okay, as an old woman, know what comes to my mind 1st thing? Not that anyone could see us (like who' WANT to?) or whether or not it is appropriate (hey, it's my balcony so I can do pretty much what I want) but the fact is how damned UNCOMFORTABLE it would be on that little balcony! I can't imagine using the balcony when a perfectly comfortable bed is 3 feet away!

And hey, if I wanna feel that ocean breeze, I'll just leave the balcony door open, and crack my main cabin door and hold on to hubby for dear life when the wind tunnel starts! :D

    CG

LOL, well you could always blow up a raft that you might bring for the beach, that would offer some cushion:Dhehehe

  6. Ok.. first of all.. Gross..

Second of all.. I can't help but think anyone who needs or wants to do that on their balcony hopes people can see.

Terry? its not gross hun.... some people just have more nerve than others.... I would be too scared I would get busted by someone.....unless of course all the alchohol kicks in and makes me crazy....but anyone that has the nerve to to go ahead and bump and grind oon the balcony i say waaahooooo!!!! keep kids from hanging over the balcony , they have no buisness doing that for there safety period!

    Awinkler...lmao at Bob and whoopee

  7. My wife and I are planning on a very romantic cruise on the Star in January. We are hoping to take our romance onto the balcony on several occasions. Will we have privacy or should we be more discreet in our romancing?

well i do agree with the others, but if you must ,..put a blanket over yourselves just in case;):p

  8. i am wondering the same....i have never been to coz b4 and im so confused as to which beach to pick, i have read so many boards and i still cant make up my mind between paradise beach, playa mia, nachi ocom and uvas. any more feedback for me to read from recent visitors would be great!! thanks
