Hi All! It’s been a while since I have posted (I’m a lurker).  

My husband and I have never done a 4 night cruise, but that’s going to change in January.  Is there a difference in the dinner menus on a 4 day cruise vs a 7 day cruise? Are the platinum perks the same on a 4 day vs a 7 day? 

You are not alone. We leave on May 5th sailing on the Sunshine and the closer we get to May, the harder it is to focus. I imagine, while at work, all the things I will be doing while my co-workers are slaving away.[emoji5]

Thank you for your review. My husband and I sail on the Oasis in November after having sailed with Carnival 16 times. We have been curious for years about Royal Caribbean and finally decided to "bite the bullet".

There's a self service laundry on deck 10 right across from room 10266. We were on the Magic in June and the laundry was across from our room.

We sailed on the Magic in May and it was pretty bad. There was a senior class and groups of unruly children. We did not say anything because most of the parents seemed to be oblivious to what was going on around them. We have decided that cruising at the end of May is not for us anymore. We normally sail in November when the ship is mostly filled with adults.

We sailed on the Magic last week. Prior to the cruise, I suggested we make reservations. DH said, "No, we should be fine." Fast forward to last Wednesday. I called to make reservations and was told they were booked for the remainder of the cruise. Luckily we overhead a couple in the elevator saying they were going to call for the following night. We waited 10 minutes and miraculously there was an available reservation.

My husband went to Bass Pro Shops. I am not sure of the price (check online if you can), but they are well worth the money spent. We sit on our balcony and watch other ships sail and can even make out the names on some buildings when we are passing by land.

We drove to the port in November and it was the WORSE experience we have had. If you are driving and plan to park, it's a loooooonnnngggg process. We arrived at the port at 10:30 and did not get on the ship until 1:00.

We sailed out of Charleston in November and it really dd not make a difference what time you arrived. The process and lines were long. Our staggered check-in time was 11:00. We got on the ship around 1:30. We are platinum. Charleston's port is my least favorite.

If you don't mind, please explain how this card works.

Did the other person cancel yet? If so, did she have to pay extra?

No, she hasn't canceled yet. She was trying to see if another person could possibly take her place or to see what her roommate will have to pay.

Thanks for your responses. The person who is sailing does not have insurance and has been unable to find anyone to replace her roommate. She has a month to find someone, so it may work out.

I have family members who are sailing in September, but one person in the group has to cancel due to a medical issue. The person who is canceling has the vacation protection plan, so she will get some of her money back. Will her roommate be responsible for paying the additional cost of a double occupancy rate since she will be in the cabin alone?

Carnival's dress code for MDR now allows for men to wear "dress" shorts (Dockers type) on non-elegant nights. DH wears these with a collared, polo-style shirt. On elegant night he wears long pants (Khakis, chinos) and a button down shirt, usually with a tie. No sport coat.

See you can learn something new everyday. I had no idea the dress code has changed. We are accustomed to packing business casual for non elegant nights and I guess I want everyone to to dress like me. I may have been a little judgmental, especially without accurate information

DH and I needed a quick getaway so we booked the Carnival Elation sailing on 6/4/16. The cruise overall was relaxing. The staff was WONDERFUL, the ship was always clean and we had no complaints, except for shorts in the dining room and the Crabcakes. Let me explain.

Shorts: We have sailed with Carnival numerous times, so we are familiar with the dress code in the dining room. I have seen many posts about guests not following the dress code, but never really paid much attention until this cruise. The majority of the guests were 1st time cruisers with Carnival (there was a sea of blue cards) and the dress code in the dining room was not enforced. Shorts were worn by men and women and there were men in the dining room with baseball caps every night. Since the majority of the cruisers were 1st timers, I think not enforcing the dress code set a precedence for any other cruises that may be taken which will make it more difficult for Carnival to enforce. The mentality will be "I did it the first time, why can't I continue to do it?" Whose job is it to enforce the dress code?

Crabcakes: On each cruise I look forward to ordering crab cakes. It's one of my favorite foods and I always order two. This cruise was no different, until they arrived at our table. Who told Carnival to change the recipe for the darn crab cakes? I received 2 plates of what I can only consider fried dough. THERE WAS NOT ANY CRABMEAT IN THE CRABCAKES!! I was HOT! Has anyone else noticed a difference in the crabcakes? I don't usually complain, but the fried dough has got to go!

I'm not sure how old this list is, but it does not list room 7230 as having a mini fridge. We were on the 11/13 sailing of the Sunshine in room 7230 and there was a mini fridge.

GREAT JOB!!! Although I presently have no desire to go to Asia, that may change in the future and I hope I can find your review for guidance. I admire your bravery to see the world solo, because I am 100% certain I could not. :o Thank you for sharing your experiences.

BTW, I am from Savannah (born and raised) and like you, I DO NOT like tea.

We just sailed the Sunshine 11/13 - 11/21 and there was no American Table.

My condolences to you and your family. I enjoy your reviews and I loved the relationship you had with your father. You are fortunate to have had him in your life.
