  1. Hello, I would appreciate any advice on how to book 3 cabins. There are six of us. My husband and myself in one cabin, my adult son in a second cabin and my other son, daughter in law and 3 year old granddaughter in a third. Because the single supplement is 100% my single son’s cabin costs almost as much as a cabin with two people. In the third cabin we are paying for 3 people (no ksf here), about $1000 more than a cabin with 2 people.

We we are thinking of moving one of the adults in the cabin for 3 to the cabin for 1 on the booking. We would then have 2people in each cabin. This would save us about  $1000. However, the family of three my son,d-i-l, and granaughter want to physically stay in the same cabin. I assume there are no bedchecks but do you see any downsides or pitfalls?

    Thanks so much.

  2. Has anyone gone on the Oceania ‘Scenic Jeep and Beach Snorkel Adventure’ excursion, in Cabo San Lucas? If you have, I’d be interested in knowing more about the snorkeling part. The excursion goes to Chileno Beach. Is the snorkeling far from the beach requiring a boat ride or a long swim out to the snorkeling area? Do you need to stay out in the snorkeling area the whole time for that part of the excursion or can you get back to the beach fairly easily on your own. Are there currents? What did you see?

Thanks so much for any information. The description was quite vague on these points.

  3. We’re also considering taking our own floats but are not sure about blowing them up once we’re off the ship...too difficult to just blow them up by mouth. If we took a small electric pump, could we blow the floats up in the cabin and just take the inflated floats off the ship with us? Also,we will be cruising with a 4yr old grand child. Has anybody used the ‘aquatic park’ feature with a young child? How did they like it?

  4. Hi

Just booked a cruise on Regatta that has a one day stop in Havana. We are Canadians and are confused about the

visa process. Does Oceania obtain the visas for Canadians as well? If not, how do we go about getting it! Is there a special form to fill out because we’re travelling from Miami, instead of a Canadian city? Many thanks for any help.

  5. On a flight from Seattle to Toronto on Air Canada last April, about 8 security personnel arrived at the waiting area for our flight, with three total set ups for performing security checks. Two guarded the corridor leading to the plane, 2 walked around the area choosing random passengers to have their baggage opened and in some cases be patted down. The rest of the security personnel did the searches. This was all done in the open...no private rooms. At least 50 passengers had their bags opened (including our son) and the process took about 90 minutes. I asked one of the security personnel whether the choice of flight was random and she insisted it was, although I'm not sure she would have said anything else. Additionally, all passengers had to show their passports and boarding passes not only to the airline personnel before boarding but also to the 2 agents guarding the way to the plane. Everyone was very polite. We've seen secondary searches of individual passengers before but nothing on a large scale like this. Clearly this type of search is being done in the US as well as Europe.

  6. I was just on that trip and it is great. In Rovinj I contacted Tours by Locals and Ana was our guide. She was great. I told her I loved medieval villages and art she proposed a drive into the country to visit the increcible village of Bale with a church with frescos, a medieval tower near by and the best of all a " Yogurt and Cheese " Tasting on a beautiful organic farm with an increcible new tasting facility. On this farm truffles are plentiful and the truffle chese was fantastic. As a matter of fact, this farm is creating a cheese for a Michelin three star chef in Paris. The yogurt was like nothing you have ever tasted served in Reidell glasses. The people were passionate for their products. I am gratefully well traveled, I love food culture and have been to umteen tastings this was by far the very best in all my travels. Ana also gave us a great tour of Rovinj up to the church. Increcible day, different, the Istria country side beautiful, highly recommend this tour if you like something different and very authentic. In Kotor we did the market with the chef which was delightful. We enjoyed the ship's event and folk music and dancing in Dubrovnik but not Dubrovnik it was mobbed with tourists. I would research the area and get out of there. Wonderful cruise Happy Sailing. If this interests you I can give you Ana's email etc you can email me. Let me know. Susanne

This sounds very interesting. I'd be glad of more info if you could contact me at posluns@primus.ca

    Thanks, Katy

  7. Hi Everyone

We are on the Star Pride at the end of September and will be visiting Dubrovnik, Kotor, Split, and Rovinj. This is our first time in this area so I've been doing some research and I'm coming to the conclusion that we can pretty much see most things on our own, without a tour. However we usually do take tours and would not want to miss out. So I'd be very interested to hear opinions from those who have travelled to these ports before. Are there tours you have taken at any of these ports that were very informative, interesting or special in some way? If you did the ports on your own do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks so much

  8. Hi everyone

We're new to Windstar, so have a couple of questions about the laundry service which can be purchased for a flat rate for the duration of the cruise. Is this a wash and fold service or are items like blouses or shirts ironed? Can we ask that certain items just be pressed when we board the ship? Overall, how have you found the service?

    Thanks for your help.

  9. We are new to Windstar and will be aboard Star Pride in September in the Adriatic. We're hoping for at least one chance to use the platform. I would like to know how Windstar organizes access to the platform. Is there a sign up sheet for different equipment? Are there time limits for more popular equipment? If so, usually how long? Any info about the procedures, any tips or suggestions, would be appreciated.

  10. Also new to Windstar. We are considering booking a cruise to the Adriatic in September aboard the Pride or the Legend. With such limited rollcalls it seems like it would be hard to book private tours, which has been our practice on Oceania or Celebrity. Does Windstar offer tours? What experiences have travellers had with them?

    Thanks for any input.

  11. We will be departing from Marco Polo Airport in Venice in early September and would appreciate any info or tips from others who have left from there, particularly in the last few months. Our flight is Air Canada to Toronto. I have read, on CC, that some have had difficult experiences at this airport but not any specific info.

One specific question I have is whether there is a "pre check" or faster security line if your boarding pass shows a trusted traveller number such as Nexus.

Also, how long in advance, should one plan to be at the airport for an 11:30 am departure. We will be leaving from a hotel in Venice, not the ship.

Any tips or suggestions gratefully received.

  12. Was wondering if anyone had taken one of the shared shuttle services from Fumincino to Civitavecchia and could recommend one or warn us off one. There are several companies advertising but it's hard to know which one to pick.

There is a considerable saving over a private shuttle and since we're arriving a day early we have a bit more leeway.

  13. I have taken the trouble to read through a few of the actual contracts before buying cancellation insurance and in fact most do seem to have look back periods of varying lengths for pre existing conditions even for relatives. We're in the situation of having an aged parent who is not in good health and has multiple pre-existing conditions. There's not much point in buying insurance if the most probable cause you'd have to use it would make it null and void. We also have medical insurance outside Canada through DH's retirement plan so that is less of a concern.

It's frustrating to see that we cannot get the same terms as Americans and that our insurance seems to be so much more expensive. No good solutions.

  14. Travel insurance seems to be an area full of questions, exclusions and lots of minefields. I read with interest the general discussions on CC but find they often don't apply to me as a Canadian since the companies referred to won't cover Canadians. I. would be interested to hear about experiences with both cancellation insurance and travel medical insurance from fellow Canadians. I am particularly interested in whether you have found a company that will waive pre-existing conditions for you as a Canadian? Any other insights would also be welcome.

  15. Hi everyone

A number of us who were on the Marina maiden voyage had a wonderful meal in Barcelona the evening before departure. A number of frequent posters on this board were in attendance including Hondorner and YoHoHo who organized it. I'm hoping someone can remember the name and possibly the location of this restaurant. We'd like to revisit it.

  16. Would appreciate feedback from those who have tried this new cruise line. We're particularly interested in how the food was. We're thinking of booking the Andalusia itinerary which sounds very interesting but our concerned about the age of the ship and whether there is a good variety in the food offerings.
