  1. .

Maggie- this cruise has never been offered from East Mid- only Birmingham- I've been watching it for months.

Yes it would be nice to see Cartagena this time!

We much preference East Mids as it's only 25 minutes away. Birmingham is over an hour. Still tempted. We will have to make our mind up soon incase it goes back up. We really enjoyed Gibraltar, we took a taxi tour and if we go again would like to just have a good look around.

  2. Very tempted by this 5 night cruise from Palma to Malaga. We went on the same one last year.Down to £414 per person from Birmingham at the moment with over £500 discount for two.

Just come on this site to post the same. Very tempted as well Flopsy. We enjoyed it last year and would like to see Cartagena that we missed due to the weather. Slightly cheaper than we paid last year but no drinks package included this time!! What to do. I've tried putting in East Midlands but I don't think there are any flights left.:)

  3. On our recent cruise(1st nov) we got the different card which I queried and was told it was to recognise repeat customers. I had filled in the embarkation form which I think came up when I went online to do to the API. That was our 3rd Thomson cruise this year and we didn't receive anything. I think in jan we got 20% of something. We've cruised 7 times in total with Thomson. Not over bothered about a loyalty scheme but do like fairness and consistency.

  4. We found a few changes. I think there were less drinks waiters. Once ordered it could take a while for drinks to arrive. We are not big drinkers so didn't worry us. Elegant tea in Argo was really busy and again not enough staff. In January they were happy to make the flavoured teas for us but they were too busy this time. Again not a big thing.

We had 2 meals in MDR, one took one and a half hours the other 2 hours so we ate in buffet after that. I think it was the time it took for the food to be ready rather than not enough waiters. We were happy with the quality of the food but think the Majesty, in May, was slightly better.

Again I think the reception staff deal,on the Majesty, deal with issues in a better way. This cruise we had a smell in our cabin and in the corridor. As no one else had gone to reception about it and I felt I wasn't believed. We had heard other people commenting on the smell. To be fair they eventually offered to move us but with only 2 nights left we declined. I just think their attitude could have been better.

Saying all that we had a great time. The ports of call were good. It was disappointing that we missed Cartagena but the port was closed due to bad weather. We would be happy to sail on the dream again.

  6. Hi maggie,

This is the timetable I've picked up - it would be worth checking it's up to date for your travel date

    http://www.tib.org/portal/documents/10286/50147/L210%2C%20des%20de%202013.11.01.pdf

but it looks like it's only half an hour. We've only done it going the other way having taken the Soller train to Soller, the tram to the Port then the bus back. But we got off the bus at the Plaza d' Espanya (where the train station is) so I guess that's where you would pick it up going in the opposite direction. The L1 bus from the Port where you are berthed will take you to P. d' Espanya.

Valldemossa is very picturesque and is in the mountains so it's a lovely run.

It looks lovely. Thank you for the information and links.

  7. Yes the Linea 1 bus which stops at the bus shelter on the turning circle area just outside the port buildings will take you right into the centre. Fare is €3 I think.

Have you a specific plan for the day? As you have a long day there I could recommend a trip on the local bus to Valldemossa - lovely for a couple of hours and scenic journey too. That runs from Palma via Valldemossa to the Port de Soller - you'd have time to go right through to The Port de Soller and break the return journey at Valldemossa - a big advantage of a long day takes off the pressure to get back early. That's the L210 service but you can pick up routes and timetables before you go. There's a good and comprehensive bus service to get around the Island - and cheap too!

    Hi Kruzseeker.

How long would it take to get to Valldemoosa on the bus? We arrive early as well and still unsure what to do in Palma. Thanks. Maggie

  9. We are visiting Gibraltar on 5th November and had thought of doing a taxi tour of the main sites. I've now been on Trip Advisor and read about the Mediterranean steps. Unsure how to get to them and how difficult they are? We managed (only just) the climb to the fortress ruins in Kotor and wondered how the 2 climbs compare?

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks Maggie :)

  10. Hi Maggie

I have been in touch with the people at Gib as promised and can confirm the price from portside is 22 Pounds as the original OP was quoted.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks campolady. Busy sorting out ports and working out how much money we will need to take with us. Yes we are on the Dream, leaving Palma on Nov 1st. Only 5 nights but no sea day!!

  11. Had a great 2 weeks.

Staff are brill, they looked after Mum and Dad so well.

Food better than 18 months ago.

Will file a proper report later on, but in summary it was fantastic.

That's great. We go November 1st. It's reassuring to read a good comments. Thank you.

  12. I have just been looking at Wikitravel for all the countries we will be going to and scrolling down to the "Stay healthy" bit, and it is full of precautionary jabs we will need.

I know these have been discussed before, but what is worrying is that different people in different areas seem to be told different things from their doctors/nurses about what is required.

I am thinking that each surgery gets brownie points or extra funding depending on what they do in this line of medication, and different areas must prioritise things differently or there would not be such a variation in what we get told.

Surgeries should all be singing from the same hymn sheet as to what is required for us to be safe healthwise in these countries. It shouldn't matter what part of the UK we are from, we are all wanting to be safe.

Scary or what. I am starting to lose count of the required jabs.

Our surgery nurse told us it can vary depending on what time of year you travel. Sounds a great itinerary. Enjoy!!

  13. For us it's the ports, traveling from local airports, tips included, the hard working staff, evening entertainment and fewer sea days. The only add ons we pay for are to book a cabin, the safe and for 2 weeks 5 extra kgs of luggage. The extras I just factor into the price. I agree the food on the Dream is not as good as it used to be but is still ok for us. The food on the Majesty in May we thought was of a better standard.

  14. That's a coincidence, because I have just been pre-booking tickets for our one and a half days in Amsterdam on the Spirit mini-cruise. I paid for the Anne Frank House with a debit card, no problem. Then I tried to book tickets for the Nemo Science Centre but it would not take any British visa or credit cards only iDeal cards. :(

I sympathise with you and it is frustrating and annoying. And there are some UK travel agents who do not book Thomson cruises either.

When you go to Anne Frank the queue for pre booked tickets is on the left of the entrance. We were in the wrong, long queue for a while before we realised.
