  1. we did the same cruise in 2012, we sailed in 5 days early on another cruise, jumped ship and stayed in the intercontinental till oceania arrived. As stated before people waited at the city hall O checked in your luggage there and transported it to your cabin. O transported you to the dock however its just a short walk and we strolled there with our hand luggage. Everything went smooth and without problems., so much so that we are repeating the same cruise this year! again we are boarding in Papeete and sailing all the way to Southampton its a great cruise and we will all be looked after the way we deserve. No need to worry.

The one different thing we are doing this time as we don't want a stupid arrival time and we cant find another cruise to fit in, so its a flight to London followed by 10 days in Las Vegas a week in Hawaii then 5 days or so in Tahiti, the Hawaii Tahiti flight is a much better option than the LAX Tahiti one.

    Regards

  2. Wow,that's great to hear - and thanks for the advice; I would have assumed that by the time everyone was onboard it would be too late to ask for an upgrade, but will certainly try it if we haven't managed to get one before then.

Not at all to late, unfortunately things do happen i.e. illness or a family member illness! even marriage break ups, or missing the flight, or arguments the list is endless!

Sad but one persons misfortune can be another persons gain!

    Guess life is like that

  3. we usually book very late, we are on Insignia 29th may 2014 only booked 2 weeks ago, and just managed to move to a Vista. It has happened many times before, Last year did 3 B to B on Marina booked about 8 weeks before sail. took 2 concierge and a balcony and put requests in for any upgrade ended up with a penthouse on one leg and a vista on the other 2. So keep your fingers crossed.

Also your first job when you get on board go to reception and tell them you want an upgrade and prepared to pay, that has also worked for me.

  4. Sometimes Cruise Director, asst. cruise director and singer J.R. (Lustig) Seems always willing to fill in when needed. One of the best we have sailed with. Would love to see him back as a Cruise Director. :):):)

I have known JR for many years, back in the days of Shany Rae now she was a top CD.

JR could be a great CD but he has said to me many times he prefers being an assistant, he can obviously stand in as needed!

Regards Roy he is a lovely person and great guy to sail with, top sense of humour maybe some people don't understand it, but I for one really enjoy sailing with him. there are a couple of CD I don't enjoy being with and always hope to avoid them.

For me Leslie and Roy are the best!

    and Shany the best ever!

  5. Thanks. Leslie's great. Is he the person listed in your booklet? Hope you post about the refurbishment later. We're don't get on until mid-August in Lisbon, but a couple people on our Roll Call want to know what the ship looks like now. We go to Gib, by the way!

Hi yes will try and post some pics when I get on the ship, I don't have my booklet yet but other people have confirmed to me its Leslie. Drop me a message when you are arriving in Gib I can take you on a tour and have a beer or wine with you.

  6. Anyone know who's currently on Insignia? CD doesn't matter that much as long as they're knowledgeable and personable (which they all seem to be), but I AM a little curious. I'd also like to hear what the refurbishment looks like, but that's another post!

I understand its Leslie that's the Isignia CD, we get on next week in Athens 29th May

  7. Thanks for the info, Jim. I'll definitely try to contact them. As it happens we're doing the Lima-NYC leg NEXT year.

  8. Jim, I was puzzled as well. I wrote to you (privately) several times to reconfirm and never heard back from you. So we just figured you were away.

What a pity ... we'd have loved to meet your other friends as well!

Next time I'll have to get your phone number ... I have just received an iPhone. Now I have to figure out how to operate it ...

    Mura :(

  9. having just come off a Seabourn cruise I am convinced O has got it right!

only 1 minor change I would suggest that is the morning coffee delivered to the room with breakfast, the flavour is awful even when they assured me they had changed the brand it was still awful. The butlers now bring me either espresso or latte depending how I am feeling.

  10. i have sailed silversea many times and love it, however tried insignia for first time in march said barbados to barcelona.

we were concerned as both my wife and myself drink more than we should and reading about oceanias drinks prices wondered if it was a good idea, like suggested before we had an owners suite which was super, far better than a normal silverseas.

for costings we worked out what a penthouse cabin would have cost on oceania and a mid cabin on silverseas. for my trip 18 days the price diff was around $3700 which ment if our charges for tips and drinks were less than this then oceania wins.

we drank what we wanted were generous with tips and my bill was around $2600.

we really enjoyed our cruise and will be with oceania later this year and next!

the staff are excellent and the captin Pietro Espinosa is a great guy we dined with him and chatted with him around the ship.

we both thought with silversea we had found the best, we now know there is better Oceania. cant knock silversea as also a great product, but found the people on oceania so much friendlier.

    regards
