1. We asked for one extra lobster tail with our meal and the waiter brought us a whole meal again, 3 plates on our small table, it was a little embarrassing. We didnt want the whole meal just the lobster tail, he said that was how it comes

  2. Dear friends:

RCCL is out to sell their cruises and earn money. Don't you think that if they could, in fact sell out a "14 Day Southern Caribbean Cruise" -- they would definitely schedule and market it?

RCCL has a global vision. Cruising is not just for North Americans.

Winter is high season in Florida and the Caribbean. Winter is low season in Europe. So in Winter most of the ships are in Florida and the Caribbean and only about two ships at any given time are in Europe.

Summer is low season in Florida and the Caribbean (except for families going to Orlando). Summer is peak season in Europe. So in Summer peak season RCCL has a great deal of ships in Europe, while still maintaining ships in several cities of Florida, New Jersey, Baltimore, etc.

And then you complain about Florida boasting the two largest ships in the world on a year-round basis. Believe me, we would love to have those two ships based here in Barcelona. Unfortunately, they were not really built for European cruising and most European ports would have to be rebuilt to accommodate them.

RCCL also takes advantage of the local Asian market and maintains seasonal ships there.

And RCCL has been catering to the extremely wealthy and high-spending Brazilian market by stationing at least one, and sometimes two ships to homeport in Brazil during their summer (our winter) season.

They are far more diversified than the were years ago and there is something on offer for everyone and for every region of the world.

    Why is that bad?

    Kind regards,

    Gunther and Uta

    I agree with this.

  3. It is correct that a lot of British cruisers love Indian food as well as many vegetarians as it is a welcome change from bland pasta every night. We sometimes order the Indian vegetarian dish as a side at dinner. I happen to despise Mexican food, but if they want to serve tacos and nachos every day on the buffet I never have a problem finding something else to eat and certainly don't go around complaining about it.

Very true, we love Indian food, I could eat it everyday, its tasty and the spices in it are amazing. I hate bland food.

  4. Dec 18

It was snowing when we woke up the next day. We tried to call British Airways, but the calls kept dropping. On the news, we saw that Heathrow was closed, and the whole country seemed to be paralyzed. We looked at the couple of inches of snow, and wondered, “Huh??” The news also said no one was getting though to BA this day. They were completely overwhelmed. The largest international airport in the world shut down for a few inches of snow…. Considering that we are from Canada (OK, Vancouver, which really hardly gets snow:p), we found this to be ridiculous. Eastern Canada and the NE/Mid-Western US get FAR more snow than we ever get, and they still manage to function.

We needed clothing and other supplies badly. We were about 10 minutes outside of the town of Windsor. The taxis there are the cab driver’s personal cars, so we had no idea that the car outside was actually our cab!! We were driven all over in Mercedes, BMW’s, Audis, etc – totally different from Vancouver!!!

Our driver had 2 snow tires on, and that was more than 99.9999999999999% of the other drivers on the road…. :rolleyes:It was a white-knuckled drive into town.

Windsor itself is SO quaint. I loved it. It was ‘classic’ England as you would think it. We shopped till we dropped. We needed boots desperately (my runners were wet within 5 minutes from the snow), clothing, and toiletries. My friends also bought a carry-on suitcase to transport all the new stuff home.

While having dinner, we thought to call the taxi company to pick us up. They had stopped running because 6 of their cabs had been in accidents! No one has snow tires there… So now we were stranded again, away from our hotel. We eventually had someone call our hotel for us (hated not having a working phone), and the hotel managed to send a cab for us. Saved again. Loved that hotel.

Well the problem being, England is not equiped for snow, we hardly get any, December's snowfall was heavier than usual and a surprise. And the coldest for a long time, it froze the snow up causing all sorts of problems everywhere, a lot of people didnt get a vacation at all. They wont invest in vehicles snow ploughs etc, they would normally not need them too much. On the news there were families hoping to get away for Christmas and not being able to go away, it was such a shame for them after saving all year.

Sounds like you had a vacation to remember anyway;)

For anyone wanting to cruise in the Med, go in the summer, there is so much to see and do, its amazing, in the winter its cheaper but as this review shows, the weather can disrupt your vacation.

Thanks for the review, we loved the Brilliance.:)

  5.
After reading this thread, I felt compelled to share this story...My apologies in advance, as it is long! This Post involves cruising, life in general, and my own personal experiences. The names of the innocent have been changed to remain "anonymous"!

(Perhaps I should have created a new thread entitled "Rude People"!)

My DH and I are frequent cruisers with RCCL. Many years earlier, on a different RCCL ship "far, far away", we met and befriended a Bartender, whom to this day, remains our true friend. Via e-mail, over the years, our respective families have shared both the triumphs and tragedies of "Life".

On a "recent" RCCL sailing, the aforementioned friend was the Bartender at the Disco. Every night, DH and I would go "early" to get a seat for me at the bar, so I could talk to our friend, listen to the trendy music, watch the dancers, and meet new people. After seeing me safely "settled in" at the Disco bar, DH would then proceed to the Casino for his daily donation!

On Night 4, DH returned from the Casino to the Disco with two Comedians who were performing on the ship. The four of us started a lively conversation. At about 11:30 PM, a very "large" female, REEKING of perfume and simply REELING from alcohol, squeezed into the bar stool next to me. (Bear in mind that the bar stools are fixed to the floor!)

My DH and the two Comedians were standing around me...I was seated upon my bar stool. Consequently, I had my back to the "newcomer".

The bar at the Disco on the ship was a designated "Smoking" section. I lit a cigarette!

I immediately felt a current of air from behind me! To my surprise, this woman had grabbed a "Drink Menu" and started vigorously fanning me: My hair and my back!

She then started alternately "sucking her tongue like "tsk, tsk", dramatically shrugging her shoulders, and loudly "sighing". After ignoring her for a few minutes, I could not help but turn around and ask, "I'm sorry, but is there a problem?"

She replied, with a distinctive Southern "drunken" drawl, "Y'all neeth to puth that out...Right now!"

Ever cordial, I replied, "Oh, I'm sorry, girlfriend, but the Bar is the "Smoking" section. Nearly all of the tables in this club are Non-Smoking. You won't have to deal with the smoke over there." (And I gestured to the non-smoking area.)

She then said, "But I want to sit at thaaaaah Baaaaaaaaar." (As she nearly toppeled over my lap!)

At that point, sensing a "No Win" situation, I swiveled my seat back around to rejoin the conversation with DH and the two Comedians.

She then proceeded to yell at our friend, the Bartender, "BOY! BOY!"

    <Perk>...That got my attention!

She then had the audacity to say, "MAKE this B*#ch put out that f&*$ing cigarette!" (She used the "real" words and actually pointed at me with really scary long fingernails!!)

Now...our friend the Bartender, is from St. Vincent. He is not "pigmentally-challenged" and also smokes cigarettes. Anyone calling him "Boy" is simply "wrong"!

True to his character, he maintained his "cool". He looked the drunken, obese, stupid, overly-scented, and bitchy "Prima Dona wannabe", in the eye, and flashed her his "most dazzling" smile...

Cool as a cucumber, he said "This LADY (with emphasis on the word, and a nod of his head in my direction!) may smoke here. I recommend you move to the "Non-smoking" area of the club, or return to your stateroom. This bar area will probably become much smokier as people start coming from the Casino".

At this point, my DH and the Comedians (all NON-smokers) had finally "caught wind" (pun intended!) of what was happening. One of the Comedians picked up my pack of cigs, and said, "F - it. I quit five years ago, but getting this obnoxious, drunk, fat, stinky cow "out of my eyesight" is absolutely worth three minutes of my life!" Both the other comedian, and shock of all shocks, my DH, lit up! (I'm sure they did not "inhale"!)

Needless to say, the rest of that evening was hilarious, as the two Comedians (and even my witty DH!), tried to "out-Joke" each other with Fat Jokes, Southern Jokes, Hillbilly Jokes, etc!

I should qualify this by saying that I consider myself to be an "extremely conscientious" smoker. I always abide by RCCL's rules, and, even though I'm allowed to, I never smoke on my balcony if I hear any neighbors on adjoining balconies. (Never!!!)

A female "invaded my space" with her odiferous girth. When she "honored the bar" with her presence, not only did she immediately demand I instantly alter my habits, she insulted my friend, who happens to be a Crew member, and further, demanded an instant change in RCCL policy!

The Moral of the Story (in a nutshell): Mean People Suck!

    Best regards,
    Terry

P.S.U. My "Role Model" is a Senior Citizen...His name is Joe Paterno, and, as a Penn State Alum, I will always attempt to follow his example: Success with Integrity! One cannot go wrong with THAT mantra!!!!
Yikes, she was definately wrong but fat jokes, southern jokes......... really? they may have wanted to insult her but what if there were other larger people about? they didnt deserve the insults.
