  1. Hi and Happy 20th Anniversary!

I loved HAL due to their wonderful service, activities options, dining menus, and shore excursions. In Juneau, we did the helicopter tour to Mendenhall Glacier. The breathtaking views and the helicopter ride were nothing short of amazing. In Ketchikan we opted for the Totem Pole National Park tour. It was a great and memorable experience. We had the inside stateroom. We should have booked a verandah. I'd definitely go again on HAL and book the Verandah second time around.

Its funny you mention the horn. I do not remember much from that cruise. But I do remember that! And I remember the white plastic cups that hat the big red boat logo. Looking at someones pictures I still cant believe how we thought that ship was big.

The new cruise ships make this one look like a bathtub toy boat... It was a terrific experience for my first cruise in 1991...

  3. Our first cruise on Premier Cruise Lines Big Red Boat Star Ship Majestic, in 1991. This photo was taken from their private island, Great Guyana Cay, once we got off the tender. I'll never forget the hard chocolate ship cookies... However, the rest of the cruise was really wonderful! It was my first time at age 11. I've been hooked ever since...

This is a picture of me, standing in the water of Great Guana Cay, the private island for Disney's the Big Red Boat. I was eleven years old. The Star / Ship Majestic is sitting gloriously behind me, waiting for the passengers to return to the ship. This photograph was taken in August, 1991.

I remember that we had a package deal, where we stayed at the Contemporary Beach Resort in Disney, and then we had our stateroom on the ship. What a tiny room! I was on the upper bunk, while my parents fought for space on the double bed with the port hole. I think my dad either hit his head on the port hole screw, or on the bunk bed. All I remember is him uttering some words that I wasn't allowed to repeat.

I thought our ship was huge! I couldn't find my way around it, but I had a good sense of where I was going as far as my directions were concerned. We had a party on that private island. One evening, the Pirates from Peter Pan were looking for wenches. They picked up the entertainment director, who was sitting one table over from us. She was just sitting down to eat, and was "kidnapped" by the pirates. Then, when we were on the island, celebrating, they "kidnapped" the cruise director.

We had chocolate "ship" cookies at the kids' club. They had us playing games, and going on a scavenger hunt. My parents were a little miffed that the ten years and up crowd could do whatever we pleased, and we could check in and out of our activities without a parent. It was a trip that we'll never forget, and I LOVED it!!!

  5. I am also wondering about Carnival Cruises specifically out of New Orleans, I've heard good things and I have heard horror stories... being from the south with my extremely large close family I'm trying to do a honeymoon on a cruise and invite the fam.... New Orleans is the closest Port to everyone.. Its either that or an all inclusive vaca.... What do ya'll think.

    Sarah,

I haven't been out of New Orleans before, but out of NYC, we haven't had any problems, knock on wood. They have secure parking at any port you go to. They charge for parking as well, but in the long run, it's worth it.
