  1. We were curious about that too...as we were walking around on embarkation day recently we noticed a few things that made us think "Hmm....when is she getting a refurb?" We googled it... nope. Nada.

Boy, does this ship need it. The rust in the pools alone is a major deterrent and is just yucky.

  2. We always buy FTTF - you just need to buy one for the cabin, not per person.

I enjoy the perks it brings, and in comparison with what the standard group spends during the course of a cruise, fifty bucks isn't a lot in the grand scheme.

We arrived at Port Everglades on 2/14 for our Conquest sailing around 11:50am...we'd gotten through the security, check in and boarding process and were on board by *just* after 12:00. It was incredibly quick and efficient...we didn't even sit down and wait in the terminal as one usually does.

I really like getting the bags to our room ASAP. It allows us to unpack and have everything in its place before the muster drill - that way, after the drill we are ready to VACATION and have a great time without worrying about unpacking hours later, once we're already in fun mode.

Priority at guest services can be nice, especially at busy times... the line on Conquest was super long and snaking around the atrium at one point on our cruise.

For me, the $50 is worth it. If you're on a tight budget and don't mind waiting for things...your vacation will certainly not be ruined if you don't purchase it.

  3. Sorry, IPhone, should have proofread. I listened.....is there tea time on Carnival? Did not pull up on FAQs.

Yes, we've had tea time on our last two cruises with Carnival. It's a great, relaxing time...though you'll hear some complain about the $1.95 for a cup with the larger tea bags :rolleyes:

  4. Conquest is in bad need of extended dry dock. Tatered, and tired. That sums it up. Crew is skimpy, poor morale. Housekeeping was a average at best. This was Sept 2015. Carnival has better. Keep shopping!

I agree with you, especially on the morale point. Very few of the crew seemed happy - they'd walk past you without acknowledgement or a smile (which is SO rare on a Carnival ship!). She is in wicked need of a refurb...

  5. Personally I think Josh is one of the best Cruise Directors with Carnival and doesn't need an Assistant... He is all over the ship, stops and talks to everyone and pretty much covers every event going on around the ship.

He does have an Entertainment Director on board who does all the back door work, ie, paperwork, planning the activities etc thus giving the Cruise Director more time to devote to the passengers...

I agree with you that he was definitely very present around the ship, which was appreciated..I've been on cruises where the CD was all but a ghost.

  6. Just off the Conquest and were surprised at the lack of an assistant cruise director. When did this happen? We haven't been out of the game *that* long, have we?

We had Josh as our CD and he left a lot to be desired...would have been nice to have another person in that role alongside him.

Was this a fluke, or is it now standard fleet wide to have only a CD and not an assistant CD?

  7. I just got on this page and saw a million posts about Uber, but just curious -

I'm an experienced Uber rider, so I get the basics...but just curious about the ease of finding the driver in the post-debarkation madness at Port Everglades.

Is there a specific spot they queue up that's separate from standard taxis? I know you can speak on the phone with the driver and have the photo of the car etc., but would like to have some info before we get off the ship later this month.

    Thanks in advance.

  8. We are so glad to hear that we can use Uber in Fort Lauderdale! I'd heard about the disputes they were having. We were planning on taking our hotel's shuttle to the port (NEXT SUNDAY! :):)) but that'd be $10p/p and the Uber fare estimator says $7-$10 total. Yippppeeeee.

I live in the San Francisco bay area so Uber is my friend - use it all the time...happy to have the opportunity to use it in Florida!

  9. We are on the Conquest in February - can't wait! A few questions..

    1) What time have you arrived to the port in Fort Lauderdale? We sailed on the Freedom out of Port Everglades a couple years ago, and I think we arrived before noon. This still ok? Probably after checkout at the hotel (appx. 1030am).

    2) Is FTTF offered for Conquest? I can't find it anywhere on Carnival.com...

    3) How many formal nights are there on a 6 night itinerary? Never done a 6 day before so I assume only one, just want to be sure.

    Thanks in advance!

  10. You can definitely split up the payments. We had two couples sailing together and each person paid for their own portion. We just figured out the total owed for each person and did four payments on the Carnival website. It was very easy.

I'm pretty sure you need to register at least one adult with the kids in that room...then switch your room keys on embarkation day with guest services. Not a big deal.
