  1. My husband is a Type 2 diabetic and for us, it is all about the choices we make. Neither of us cares for the aftertaste of Splenda or saccharin, so we prefer to make different choices. If the desserts look good, we skip the carbs at dinner and add more veggies. An extra couple of laps around the promenade, a longer after dinner stroll, or skipping those couple of beers might offset the extra at dinner.
My husband is type 2 as well. He likes dessert, so he skips potatoes, pasta and rice. And he exercises more so he can eat that dessert!
  2. Little French Key in Roatan. It's a beautiful place with outstanding service. This is NOT a Carnival excursion so don't confuse it with Big French Key. For Belize, one of our best experiences was hopping on a short flight over to San Pedro for the day. This was a true adventure on a cruise port day! We had a blast!

  3. Don't forget the little airplane bottles....

I pack a few racks of those in each suitcase, some singles in my carry on...

On the flight down I have a few in my carry on....same when I fly international.

I'll take a diet coke with some ice please!!

Don't know how many peoples seated next to me were amazed.

We did this flying to Seattle a couple years ago. We gave the empties to the flight attendant. She told us consuming our own during the flight was against some rule or other. Now we stow the empties til we land[emoji16]
  4. We just prepay gratuities so they never "hit" our acct. Every cruise we see people taking them off at guest services. It is awkward and the people doing it always look a bit... well, let's just say desperate type people. When I've witnessed it, CCL staff do not just take off gratuities, they ask a lot of questions about service and it usually gets animated. They also call in managers etc. It doesn't look like anything I would want to deal with. That's probably why you've been told by some people that they are mandatory. Because even though they technically are not mandatory, when you go to have them removed, from what I have witnessed, they treat them as if they are mandatory. Eventually they probably will make them fully mandatory .
This! Watching the guest at Guest Services the day the auto grats hit is an option for onboard entertainment[emoji16] btw, love the screen name!

  5. Didn't think that the UBP was alive back in May of 2013, according to your signature. But I will tell you that on my first Escape cruise in July of 2016, my second one in January of 2017 and my third one in September of 2017, the only time getting a drink was a hassle was on white night at the aft of the ship.
Sorry, that signature hasn't been updated, probably since 2013[emoji16]. We are Platinum on NCL. Were on the Epic November 2017. The indoor bars in the evenings were jam packed!

  6. Our daughter is an only child so we financed and brought along a friend on many vacations. Always have proper consent for medical treatment, and for cruising any friend was required to have a passport. We always set clear rules and boundaries. Check in times, curfews, and my daughter would roll her eyes and suffer thru our safety briefing. Stay in public areas, don't enter anyone's cabin and dont allow anyone in yours.
