Another way to figure this out is that adjacent cabins will “share” plumbing such that a cabin that had its bathroom on the right (as you enter) will be next to a cabin with a bathroom on the left as you enter. Looking at B Deck on Island, it would appear that B311 would share its plumbing with B315 so B311 would have its bathroom (and head of the bed) on the right as you enter. B315 would be the mirror image. And so on.  So B323 would have the bathroom on the left.  The post above that says that the bed is on one side and the bath is on the other seems off to me. I’ve never been in a non-suite cabin where the bathroom and bed were on opposite sides. They are always on the same side so as to give you an unobstructed pathway from the cabin door to the balcony in a straight line.

    Thank you!

Your explanation makes sense to me!

Well hello there!!  We were trying to book the Island WC Segment from Singapore to FLL.  All the segments ending in Florida are supposedly "Sold Out" (but Princess may be playing with inventory).  All we could do was book from Singapore all the way thru to Los Angeles (another 14 days) and prefer not that much.  Anyway, I can watch the inventory and we can always cancel.  I read a rumor that Tuvo was getting the new launch, Sky, later this year, but not sure of that.

We still say that S.A. trip was the greatest adventure.  This year we did two months in Australia & NZ, which began with a 12-night cruise to NZ and back.  Then, we did a fly-drive around a lot of Australia.  Great time.

Hope you do get to do the WC!!.

We just got back from that part of the world. We did a 23 day land tour of NZ, then 5 days on our own in Sydney, then 28 days around Australia aboard the Sea Princess.

Ive never had so much fun as I did on the S. America cruise last year. It will seem strange to be on the Island Princess without everyone I knew in 2018.

Not a stupid question at all. We usually book Mini-Suites so we have a sofa and bathtub. My wife insists that we book a cabin where we are moving forward as we sit on the sofa or lie on the bed. She does not like sitting on the sofa sitting backwards relative to the movement of the ship if you know what I mean.

What I have been told, and it has been right every time, is that if you look at the deck plan and find a bulkhead indicator on the plan, (shown as an arc in the hallway), and start counting from bow to stern after the bulkhead, it goes “good cabin; bad cabin; good cabin; bad cabin; etc (with “good cabin”  being the ones where the bathroom, head of the bed and sofa are on your left as you enter a port side cabin and on the right as you enter a starboard side cabin).  With these configurations, you will be facing forward while lying in bed and sitting on the sofa.

The Island Princess deck plans do not show the doors in the hallway. I’m having a hard time figuring this out.

  4. Yeah, I know this is a stupid question.....BUT

When you enter balcony cabin B323, is the bathroom on the left or on the right?

If you have been in this cabin, that would be perfect.  If you were in any surrounding cabin and you can answer the same question for me, that would also be great!

    Thanks!

Speaking of Captains, we had Captain Tuvo for the bulk of the time on our S.A. cruise on the Island last year, so perhaps that has a part in my more positive feelings about sailing that ship on a great itinerary.   (See comments above).  As we all know, everyone has their likes and dislikes.  Nevertheless, I was not happy to say 'Bye, Bye' to that trip.

    I agree--best captain ever!

By the way.....I've booked the world cruise (Fort L to Fort L) aboard the Island!

  6. I used to feel the same away about the Captain until I sailed on a ship with Captain Tuvo. He outshined the CD by far! CD isn't a big deal to me and I definitely wouldn't base my bookings on that.

I felt the same way about Captain Tuvo when we were on the Island Princess with him in January!

  7. We did the one day cruise from Seattle to Vancouver last year for the purpose of getting us up to Elite before a 60-day cruise! No way was I going for two months around South America without free laundry.

We turned it into a really fun trip. We visited first with friends in Oregon and Washington. Then when we arrived in Vancouver we stayed two days with some old trivia buddies. It was only a small part of a much bigger trip.

For that one night we booked an inside cabin on Plaza for $79 each. Seemed like a better deal than buying a hotel room in the area too!

  8. I had my Princess luggage strap (the ones they used to award as trivia prizes) taken from my bag on the last night. I still have Princess luggage tags and straps from that era of trivia prizes--I use them whenever I am NOT on a Princess ship!

Door deco--I don't put anything that I particularly like on my door. I do have a really ugly round magnet from my last government job that I put on my door. I put it there to find my way to my room and also for leaving notes under. NO ONE wants it! It is always with me!

  9. I realize that different personalities are going to appeal or not appeal to different folks. There is no question Tuvo was professional about his job when he needed to be. I did hear anecdotally that one or two passengers thought he was serious somehow when he mentioned in the morning announcement once or twice that we had only had to stop for directions twice and we found the port okay. And just who did we ask in the middle of the ocean?

I observed this man a couple of times and when he was out and about, he had his eye on operations, how passengers were doing, etc.

He made himself available when he did not need to, and in so doing he enriched people's day and enhanced the passenger experience. Do I expect all Captain's to do this stuff? No, but I certainly appreciated the efforts he made in being self-deprecating and make people smile. One day, he reported a lot of new officers had boarded because too many had to walk the plank. If people cannot take a little joke in the course of a day, while still realize a job can be done professionally, then too bad.

Anyway, we liked him and everyone I spoke to liked him, but not to say all passengers loved him, nor would I expect them to.

I completely agree with you. I felt the void after he left the Island Princess.

  10. From your signature seems your next cruise will be for 60 days ... and the other two you have booked are also somewhat longer cruises.

With gratuities and other things you'll probably be doing your $450 will be gone ....

    Enjoy! :)

No, actually it is for a 7-day cruise I just booked (and have not added to my signature!)

  11. I will have $300 from the current Princess booking, $50 from my travel agent, and $100 from a Future cruise booking. Total is $450. I'm frankly not sure if I will use all of it--even though I know it will easily cover my gratuities.

Is any refundable or should I just buy drinks for everyone?

  12. I just got the same call yesterday from LaQuinta. They were switching us to the Cypress Creek Laquinta. The price was actually a bit lower. But this morning I found that the Quality Inn and Suites (South, Airport) had a better price and is virtually in the same location that the original Laquinta was. AND the shuttles to/from the airport AND the cruise port are free.

  13. My previous post was either delayed or I had not refreshed the thread as I missed all the clarifications from Princess.

So I would have to agree if free minutes are preserved for P&E level Captains Circle, then that is good.

I might find it difficult to predict whether I should exchange for a package at a discount at the beginning of a cruise, versus waiting until my minutes run out and then having to buy minutes in lieu of the choice to buy a daily U/L package. I'd like to have the choice to act when my free minutes run out. I am not talking about 7- or 10-nighters... I am talking about extended voyages (like upcoming 60-nighter). The free internet minutes are capped - they don't keep increasing with length of a cruise after 21 days.

And I think that everyone's key beef about the lowest package being social only is also one worth arguing about. Whatever the basic package is, it ought to include email. IDK how they can throttle every possible email application or site anyway. So, the social thing sounds like something to buy the kids. And the real price is the $25 package. That is way over-priced. I don't think we should smugly walk away with our free minutes and not react to the package offerings and pricing.

PS - And please don't read my signature block and tell me I get more free minutes now that I booked segments. I know this, but I am thinking of the folks on the 60-day like I used to be, or the day when I might be on a long cruise again and not have the option to segment.

In regard to your PS: When I booked a long cruise (British Isles plus Transatlantic) as one cruise, I knew that others had booked it as two segments. I was pleasantly surprised when I was given two blocks of internet minutes anyhow. I'm hoping this might be the same for me when I am on that same 60 day cruise with you!

  14. We will be taking a one day cruise at the end of September from Seattle to Vancouver. Since it is part of a larger trip for us, we will each have one large suitcase and some kind of smaller duffle.

Do you still check your baggage in for this VERY short cruise? If not, is it a zoo with everyone bringing their baggage on themselves?

  15. Let me start by saying that I will be on the Island Princess in January around South America. I DO have my Brazilian visa!

The Princess site says that passengers must have the visa even if they opt to stay onboard in Brazil.

My question: Do folks show up at the beginning of the cruise (in this case Fort Lauderdale) without the visa and do they get turned away? Anyone have any first hand knowledge of this?

Just curious. It seems that some inexperienced travelers could be caught off guard on this one.

  16. Since I assume you will also be attaching your itinerary to show them the dates and ports being visited, entering Island Princess should be fine. We did an Amazon cruise in 2010 on the previous Royal Princess and that is what we did when we applied for our first Brazilian visa.

Thanks. I guess I will just enter "Island Princess" and leave the rest of the blanks unfilled.
