  1. Thanks for restarting a 'Secrets' thread. Hopefully this one won't be hijacked.

Next year will be our first Celebrity cruise, and I was wondering if there are any Summit-specific secrets (i.e. 'secret' doors/views, little known highlights, etc.) that anyone would be willing to share? Basically, is there anything that would appeal to my inner pirate? DW has already nixed the idea of swinging from the sports deck down to our balcony room.

  2. I saw this question on the Royal Caribbean board and wanted to ask the same thing over here. The RCI thread is giving me lots of ideas for what to order on my next Jewel of the Seas cruise, but it doesn't help me much with my upcoming Caribbean Princess cruise unless both cruise lines serve the exact same concoctions with the same names.

I'm not talking beer or wine, but that special mixed drink that you just can't wait to order once on board.

On my Star Princess cruise I discovered the Bahama Mama which was delicious, but I'd like to know what else is out there that you like.

One shot of single malt mixed with another shot of single malt. :D

  3. This thread has led me to make a hard decision. I have decided to take 2 years of my life to travel in alternating patterns on RCI and Princess cruises. As I would have no income during this time, I welcome any travel writing offers by newspaper publishers (kids, newspapers are an almost extinct method of telling you the news 12 hours after it was tweeted to you) or by travel channels on television. I will do the job for a meager $250,000 a year, plus benefits, and I can start as soon as my two week's notice runs out at work.:D

  4. I've sailed with Princess several times, not with Royal Caribbean. Looking for some help in comparing these cruise lines, how are they similar or different. What do you like/dislike on one vs. the other? Any info appreciated.

I've only been on 3 cruises (Royal in 2005 & 2006, Princess in 2008), but I enjoyed both lines as follows:

I liked the food better on Royal, but people on these boards say the food has gone downhill the last few years. I'll find out in a few weeks.

I liked the show venue on Royal because there was always enough space to find a seat. Since I was on Explorer class ships prior to having to book the shows, I'll have to wait and see if it makes a difference.

I like the fact that Royal doesn't charge for the adults only area.

Princess has the best sized rooms.

I like the fact that you can bring a couple of bottles of wine onboard Princess, rather than having to pay $45 for a $8 bottle of wine.

I like the fact that the bar servers on Princess didn't hassle me when I was relaxing on deck. Royal bar servers are annoying, and I will actually go to another area of the ship to make a purchase.

Pizza on Princess is the best of the two.

Fresh brewed coffee and the coffee card from Princess hands-down beats Royal and their new affair with Charbucks.

Princess is good about not letting people hold seats in the theater (they were trying to get us to give up one seat we were holding, and there were seven of us), but neither line does a good job clearing out the wasted seats by the pool.

I know I am missing something, but I thoroughly enjoyed all three cruises, and I will likely continue to sail with both Princess and Royal in the future. Have a great trip!!

  5. I haven't had a run in with a pushy porter yet, but I also always have some small bills ready almost as soon as the plane touches down to signal the vacation's start.

As for $100 and $150 tips: If you ever cruise at the same time as me, I will personally carry your luggage on board, wait by the room until you are given the okay to go in, and unpack for you for that kind of money. I may even smuggle a bottle of adult beverage for you too.:D

  6. I won a free cruise @ bingo on HAL a few years ago, it was for 7 days inside cabin, taxes extra. We upgraded to a balcony for $199 each and it turned out to be probably the best vacation we've had.. Very thrilling to win too, especially since I dont care much for bingo and was talked into going. Ironically an inconsiderate man had quickly jumped in line ahead of me to get his card, so it should have been him than won. Just goes to show that sometimes it does pay to be patient...lol

The end result of this makes me :D:D:D!!!

  7. Not that I will ever win one but if you dont mind me asking, are these "free" cruises truly "free" or do you have to still pay the taxes and port charges that are normally associate with all cruises?

And Im sure they will send out a 1099 around tax season next year and that this free cruise has to be reported as income?

I would LOVE to win a 7 night cruise either way! Congrats!

My wife won the Owner's Suite on the Navigator a few years ago, and we didn't have to declare it as income. It's not like a bonus at work.

  8. I LOVE Indian food! The spicier the better. If they had it on a cruise I was on,I'd order it!

It looks like RCI offers an Indian option in the MDR each evening. I hope they don't change the menu before I can finally get back on board.

  9. Please save the daggers.

What is it with the Indian food on the buffets? Our last cruise had it on the tables for lunch almost everyday. Sorry It's nasty ! We were on Carnival for 5 days. I can understand one day. But 4 out of 5 Come on! And it looks like NCL also has it on there buffet. I just can't take another cruise filled with Curry ...I hope they don't serve in morning noon and night.

Am I the only one who doesn't like it ??

Please tell me I will only see it 1 day on my next trip? (ncl-jewel)

I love Indian food, and most of it is not filled with curry.
