  1. I’ve cruised a fair amount. Don’t get me wrong I still have to work full time and typically only get 3 weeks vacation a year and not even each of those is spent at sea, but I’ve done enough so that I know the drill. But I never was drawn to the appeal of the Fun ships. Mainly a grew up on Royal, and then found the freestyle vibe of Norwegian to be relaxing and easy.

I started looking to branch out when after several cruises and shopping around I was finding all of the same itineraries. If you’re going to the Caribbean on NCL you get Nassau, St Thomas and Tortola, or Roatan, Costa Maya, Cozumel and maybe a private island. If you’ve done it a couple times you start looking for more.

So here I am, my first fun ship on the 8-day sailing to Grand Turk, La Romana, Curacao and Aruba. It was the itinerary that drew me to this ship. That, and when I booked I found the exclusive Havana area and felt like if I was unsure about all the things I read about the carnival party crowd, this would at least give me some reprieve if needed.

I had 18 months to prepare for this sailing, and while surfing the CC carnival boards I found a lot of vets, either complaining about changes or championing for carnival overall. I found very few new to carnival cruisers who had experience on other lines.

What a long winded into to why I’m here... let’s get down to who I am: 36, turning 37 on this trip. I cruise every year for my birthday. I travel solo 90% of the time and I prefer to make my vacation time all about me right now. Staying in Havana interior cabin 5211.

For those of you new to carnival if you have questions you want me to find, I would be more than happy to go hunting for info.

    More to come....

  2. Yes, it was a standard Havana balcony cabin. I think it is the one next to it, 7450 that has a different layout.

Ahh,right, the wrap balcony has a quirky layout. After several changes, we ended up in 7463 aft balcony on Horizon so it should be a great cabin. AdG, you mentioned liking the location, was it easy to get to the Havana pool area from your cabin? It looks like there might be a back set of stairs so you don't have to go all the way to the stairs by the elevators. Is this the true?

  3. Havana area: This was a special trip for us, so we booked Havana cabins. It will be hard to go back :(. We absolutely loved this little oasis. There was always plenty of seating available (if you specifically wanted a clam shell or lounger in the sun you could be out of luck, but there was always something available), the pool was not crowded and we had the jacuzzi's to ourselves quite often. Nice bar, nice staff, good cocktails. Loved the music and the volume that also allowed for a conversation. Loved everything about this area.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, AdG! Glad to hear you had a fantastic vacation on Horizon. No need to feel your review is "boring"- I like your positive attitude :) I will be in a Havana cabin in November and am wondering about chair hogs. You mentioned that you might not always be able to get a lounger in the sun and I am wondering if that is because they are being used or do people "save" chairs in the Havana area with a towel/magazine the way they do on lido.

  4. Thanks Jenjer! I have been searching online but can't find info/photos for my particular cabin or the same one on the other side of the ship.

So I haven’t found photos or video of Horizon 7461 but was able to look at the same cabin on vista and in fact it is smaller and there is no couch. So I called Carnival today and changed cabins to 8474 which I was able to see a video of and confirm it has a couch. Would rather be on deck 7 but no other availability there. Figured aft cabins on deck 6 might get noise from Havana bar and deck 9 might get noise from above. Hope I made the right choice! I tend to over think these things [emoji4]

  5. I have an extended aft balcony (7461) on Horizon booked for November. I read somewhere (can't find it again) that the aft balconies closest to the aft wraps on deck 7 are quite a bit smaller in size and may not have a couch. When looking at deck plans, it does appear that the depth of these cabins (7461 and 7452) are smaller. I would love to hear from someone who actually knows/has been in these cabins. Hoping someone can offer some info here. Thanks in advance!
