  1. Looking to book a 1/2 day type island tour for Sept 18th, coming in on the Carnival Conquest. I'm hoping to reach Sonny Binns, but he seems really popular, so it's probably a long shot. Anyone have good experience with "WIX Aruba Shore/Ship Excursion", or Aruba Fantasy Tours.....they both sound good on TripAdvisor.

  2. We also stayed at the Intercontinental a few years back (loved it!). Bayside is really nice.......shops, restaurants, a lovely waterside setting. Best time is evening, when it's cooler. We ate supper at a little place that had Cuban specialties, outdoors. Then we walked, shopped, and there was some live entertainment (rock-n-roll band) playing around 8 o'clock. Less than 10minute walk from the hotel. We also did the free trolley in the afternoon. Not very scenic, but something to do.

  3. While I'm an avid cruiser, this trip to Key West will be by car. Are there any days that there are NO cruise ships in port during the week's schedule? It would make for a less crowded visit.

  4. We rented the golf carts from Nathan two years ago. They were fun! Would do it again. Nathan has a good reputation as an honest man. Never heard of anyone having an issue with their CC, in dealing with him. If there was ever a problem, you can bet it would be all over these boards. I would say, go for it, and have a great time!

  5. We, also, couldn't find the "downtown". Also couldn't find the Bohio Resort, and boy, did we try! But, we DID find Governor's Beach. If you are heading away from the ships, keep looking to your left, and before long you will see a small sign, like a street sign, that says Governor's Beach. It was a nice stop.

We had the BEST time with our golf cart. Exploring and getting lost was half the fun.

  6. I just have to join in and say how really cool this thread is. Some very imaginative shots here. I'm inspired. Next cruise (Nov) I'm going to try and take some more artful pictures, along with my usual point and click. Keep the pictures coming everyone!

  7. Nothing is actually an "attraction" on GT. The fun is in the exploring, not knowing what's around the bend. Follow the road around the island. You will pass a replica of the John Glenn capsule (stop and read the info posted). You will see loose roaming cows, horses, donkeys (and you will drive over lots of "poop" in the road). You might see a flock of wild flamingos in one of the salt ponds . At the end of the island is a lighthouse, which, frankly, could use a coat of paint. It has an interesting history, if you read the signs. Beautiful views from here. Heading back to the pier, you will pass Governor's Beach (keep your eyes peeled, the sign for the turnoff is small). Very nice beach, decent snorkeling.

Everybody talks about Jack's Shack.............we didn't go, but I would try to find it if we go again.

Leave at least an hour to enjoy a dip in the huge pool at the cruise center, and take a dip in the beach there. It's really neat swimming so very close to the docked ship.

We had a blast with the cart. Have a great time!

  8. If you decide on a golf cart, I would recommend booking one in advance. They DO run out.

We did this last Oct. and really enjoyed it. True, the island is still somewhat destroyed by the hurricane. It's not lush and tropical, like a TV commercial. But, the fun is in the exploring, and in bombing around at 15 mph (on the left side of the road). You'll have time to tour most of the island, and still have time to hang out a bit at the cruise center. There are lots of posts on here about people's golf cart experiences, if you search back a bit. It will help you decide.

We found this to be a very unique day.

  9. To "fourseventeen" from "non-swimmer": I even took swimming classes when I was a child (many, many moons ago!). Just never could do it. Can't tread water, either. Wait...................it gets worse. We live on a lakefront property!

In my defense, though, I go boating, canoeing, I will float anywhere with my "noodle", and will ride on a jet-ski. If there is something holding me up, I'm fine.

To "bruce-r": Felt perfectly safe doing the Helmet Dive, and had a great time!

  10. I am a total non-swimmer, can't even manage the dog paddle, don't like to get water up my nose or in my eyes.........you get the picture. Did a helmet dive in Bermuda, and had a great time! No swimming involved, you just walk around a bit on the ocean floor. The fish will come to YOU. Big helmet on your head, which has air pumped into it, so you breath normally, nothing to put in your mouth. You stay dry from the neck up, can keep your glasses on, etc. Good for all ages, not strenuous. I really loved being able to experience the underwater world.

You would be fine booking independently, as long as you keep mindful your time to be back on the ship.

  11. To CruiseDreaming"............if you were to search back through these threads for months, you would find lots of posts from nervous, afraid of heights people, wondering if they would be able to do this tour. The answer always comes back the same..............they loved it! I honestly don't ever remember reading a post where someone regretted zip-lining because they were scared once they started zipping. Go for it. You'll love it. Guaranteed!

  12. I can vouch for Godfrey as a tour operator. We used him a couple of years ago and he was great. This year we are going to do the same type of tour, but are going to try Sunny Liston, just for variety. Both operators have excellent reputations. Someone here just recommended ********* tours. Search these boards...........I seem to recall there have been some issues with this company, don't know what they were, or if they are resolved. But, experts on these boards will steer you right.

  13. A few posters have referred to a beach that is literally littered with conch shells...............from conch shells lining the beach, to huge piles of them. Is there a name to this beach? Directions to get there from the ship (I believe people say it's easily walkable)?.............I just don't want to start walking in the wrong direction! I would love to bring home a pretty conch shell that I picked off the beach with my own two little hands.

Does anyone have a picture of this beach they can post?

Thanks in advance for any info.
