Also on that link you posted, it says ''There have been two presumptive cases of coronavirus in Broward County. The patents are 65 and 75 years old. Both are cruise-related and both are under quarantine.''

I wonder which ship they were on?

Unfortunately one was a person checking people off of the ship.  https://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/article240991126.html

  2. I just hopped on David Abel's FB page and he just posted that they now believe they DO NOT have the virus.

"Sally and I waited 8 hours in the cabin to be transported to a hostel. We are still on the ship!

They do NOT send folk with the virus to a hostel!

Massive communication error yesterday. The Japanese quarantine officials to not speak any English. They came to our door & told us to be ready to be taken to the hostel. My mindset was ‘virus’ and said ‘positive then’. He nodded.

I don’t think he was saying yes to the virus but positive we were moving out??

He followed up by saying it will probably be just 4 or 5 days. You would not say that to a virus victim.

The consulate in Tokyo are being very good with me. I am being listened to and Sally & I feel really well.

I will get more info out when I know what’s happening. Thank you for your love and concern.

    Sally & David xx"

  3. This is a tough decision! But...we are going on the Rhone and will put the Moselle and Rhine on our wishlist! I was able to get an amazing airfare deal flying into Paris and out of Nice. We are going to spend a couple of days after the cruise doing a land tour of the French Riviera! I will check out the blogs so I can make sure to pick great tours. Going on a cooking tour will definitely be my choice - I did that on the Danube cruise and loved it. Making baguettes will be fun!

  4. I will definitely check out your blog! All they have left are balconies so that's settled ;-). They have one balcony on the violin deck (deck right under sun deck, cabin next to the Chef's table restaurant) or, for a total of $400 more, a choice of three cabins on the cello deck (deck below violin, midship.) Thoughts? It's the AmaCello btw!

  5. Hi Everyone! We are ready to try another river cruise after having a wonderful time doing the Danube - Prague to Budapest- on Amawaterways a few years ago. For a variety of reasons we are planning at the last moment (for river cruising that is!) For scheduling reasons our ideal time to go is in April and May. Of this year! I wanted to do a tulip cruise since April is an ideal time for it but we were unable to get a cabin on an Ama cruise - sold out! So after reading lots of "favorite itinerary" posts I came up with the following itineraries. The cost is pretty similar so that is not a deciding factor. Please let me know your thoughts!

    Itinerary 1 - May 31st -

Day 1 - EMBARKATION – LUXEMBOURG CITY, LUXEMBOURG

    Day 2 - TRIER, GERMANY – BERNKASTEL

    Day 3 - COCHEM – KOBLENZ

    Day 4 - KOBLENZ – RHINE GORGE – RÜDESHEIM

    Day 5 - LUDWIGSHAFEN

    Day 6 - STRASBOURG, FRANCE

    Day 7 - BREISACH,GERMANY – BASEL, SWITZERLAND

    Day 8 - BASEL – DISEMBARKATION

    Itinerary 2 - April 19th - https://www.amawaterways.com/destination/europe-river-cruises/2018/colors-of-provence

Day 1- EMBARKATION – LYON, FRANCE

    Day 2 - LYON

    Day 3 - COLLONGES – VIENNE

    Day 4 - VIENNE – TOURNON

    Day 5- TOURNON

    Day 6 - AVIGNON

    Day 7 - AVIGNON - ARLES

    Day 8 - ARLES – DISEMBARKATION

We plan on doing a land vacation next year and staying in Paris for a week and then do a driving tour afterwards that would include Normandy so I didn't want to do a Normandy cruise. We are open to other ideas as well!

    Thanks!

    Maureen

  6. Captain of Harmony just updated us. We are expected to go into port tomorrow around noon. We still have to wait for approval by USCG but it is expected to be by noon. The other guests are expected to board around 5pm. There is also a rumor that Christian Bale will be on board to film a movie! They will be filming in Coastal Kitchen and 150 Central Park!

  7. For those on board the Harmony right now, have you received an update from the Captain regarding your return to Port Everglades?

I'm sure he will update us as soon as he knows for sure. I was just curious if anybody else has some inside info.On the cruise compass there is A Captain's Corner Q&A With the captain and chief officers at 10:30 this morning.

  8. On Harmony too... just had text @ 630a from friend in Ft Laud, said it was on radio that Port Everglades AND airport closed until weds!

    Can anyone else confirm this?

My home St Pete beach area, storm surge getting bad, and could be underwater soon..

Good luck to your family too, hope they are ok.

They are okay! They said it was very scary at times. Good luck with your home. Hopefully we will find out soon about the port opening.

  9. From the Sun-Sentinel (Fort Lauderdale newspaper) website (www.sun-sentinel.com):

8:40 p.m.; Airport, port and shelters:
Broward County officials hope to have Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport partially open for flights on Tuesday and Port Everglades ready to accept cruise ships on Wednesday.

County spokesman Ric Barrick said officials plan to inspect the airfield Monday and depending on the level of debris and damage, airlines could be allowed to reposition their planes to the airport to begin flights on Tuesday morning. However, that’s far from certain as officials are already aware of flooding on the western portion of the north runway that could delay the airport’s ability to bring planes into the airport.

Crews will also do an aerial survey of the port with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to check out the channels and to see if the port can bring in cruise ships currently scheduled to arrive on Wednesday, Barrick said.

Currently on the Harmony and can't sleep because my family in Central Florida are feeling the full effects of Irma right now and I'm worried about them. We are scheduled to arrive tomorrow morning at Port Everglades. Is it true it won't be until Wednesday now? If anyone has further information please share!

  10. I'm currently on the Harmony approaching Costa Maya and woke up to the news that there was an earthquake in Mexico not that far from us. My Central Florida home is in the direct path of hurricane Irma and I am on a cruise ship that is near an area where there was just an 8.1 earthquake. Not sure if the only two ports in Florida will be open to welcome us home on Tuesday morning or how the conditions in Florida will be to drive home. I don't even know if I should get off the ship! I'm feeling very defeated.

  11. Nassua would be where I think they would head, but with Jose playing out there after Irma, who knows.

Not sure how Nassau's going to fare in this hurricane either. We have had people leave the ship but less than I expected. That could be due to the logistics of trying to leave from Cozumel or Costa Maya.

  12. Really don't know. Positive thoughts that it won't even be an issue.:)

Me neither. I talked to a fellow passenger this morning and she tried to get off here in Cozumel and it was going to be a very long and complicated process. It would take about 4 to 5 hours to leave the ship get a ferry and get themselves to Cancun to fly out. I think the people on Jamaica have it a little bit easier. I think you could get transportation from Falmouth to Kingstown and be able to fly out from there.

  13. I am not sure if Harmony can get into Miami, definitely not NOLA as Liberty couldn't get in there, so no way Oasis class can. Fort Lauderdale and Port Canaveral are the only options that I am aware of.

They will get you guys in somewhere once the storm passes. It might not be to the same terminal you left from, but that port will get open as soon as they can not because of the cruises but because of all the other shipping that happens from that port.

I live in central Florida so I definitely agree with you that the ports will have priority as far as repairs, personnel etc are concerned. Just trying to determine what would happen if those two ports are damaged. Perhaps take us back to Jamaica so we can fly home?

  14. Don't think NOLA can either... neither can Galveston, they are working on expansion but have not yet started the dredging for Oasis class...I think Galveston Cruiser can comment on that.

Uh oh! I thought the port of Miami could. If the port of Fort Lauderdale and Port Canaveral are damaged we don't have very many options! Am I correct?

  15. Please post as soon as you know when you will be arriving, as we are supposed to board when you get off, and they haven't told us anything, including they it will arrive later than scheduled for us. We live in northwest Florida and we have hotel reservations for Thurs. night in Ft. Pierce and had planned on arriving around 1pm, so I guess at noon tomorrow we will know if we are cruising and when. They posted earlier today that they would make an announcement at 6pm today if it would be cancelled, instead they just postponed it until tomorrow at noon. Thank you and be safe out there.

I will! There was dead silence when the captain made his announcement but then everyone seemingly went back to normal. Tomorrow is a day at sea so I will update as soon as I hear.
