  1. What am I missing with this deal?  It's still listed at $61 pp per day.  We are going on a 7 day cruise in October.  By my calculation, it would come out to $854 for the 2 of us without the gratuity.  ($61 x 7=$427 x 2=$854).  I see how they break it down when I check out, they take 25% off each person to total 50%.  But why is my total with gratuity $1000 with 50% off the second guest?  Is it because the package is $76 pp per day and not $61 that is listed?  I see that it says "packages starting from $61".  I'm thinking it's better to wait and see if they do another sale where it's a % off like I've gotten before.

  2. Ok, so I am so confused! I just read that the drink package was on sale for 25% off. I did the math and it was a good deal for me and my DH. However, when I checked out, they charged me a $102 service charge. What is that for? When I search the site, some answers sort of make it sound like it is the gratuities added in one lump sum for the week and other answers make it seem like we will still be charged the 18% gratuity at the time we buy our drink.

This is my first time buying a drink package so I have no idea what the process is.

  3. In your opinion, which has the best shopping? Our last time in St. Thomas we were on the Explorer and I believe we docked at Havensight. This trip we are on the Allure and docking at Crown Bay. We want to go to Magen's Bay and then come back and do some shopping. Would it be worth it to have the cab driver drop us off at Havensight and then take another cab back to Crown Bay or just go straight to Crown Bay?

  4. We will be in Nassau on the Allure in October. Problem is, we are only there from 7am to 2pm, which probably means we need to be back on the ship no later than 1:30pm. The web sites say the RCH is 9am to 5pm. Opinions on whether or not you think it's worth it for the few hours. RC has an excursion to Blue Lagoon but between the ferry ride back and forth, it cuts into our beach time.

  5. We will be in St. Maarten the last week in August on the Oasis. After doing much research on CC, I think we are going to do Le Galion. We will be in port from 8am to 5pm. If we hire a cab to take us out there and make arrangements for someone to come back and pick us up so that we can go shopping on Front Street, I'm guessing we will obviouisly have to go by ship time? Say we want to be picked up at 2pm, would we have to tell the cabbie to pick us up at 1pm or becuase of daylight savings time ship time/island time would be in sync that time of year? Or from what I'm reading, would it be better to have the restaurant call us a cab when we want to leave. I know we will be renting chairs/umbrella and probably paying for food.

Sorry..we did Bernard's tour last time so cabs and such will be new to us on SM. Thanks for the help! :)

  6. Thanks for the replies. We did Orient beach with Bernard, not very happy with the nude section of the beach. I'm not a prude, but some of those people...

So the water taxi takes you to the East side of the Island and you can access any of those 3 beaches? Then on the return trip we can stop near Front street?

  7. We will be cruising on the Oasis of the Seas the end of August/2014. The last time my DH and I were in St. Maarten was about 4-5 years ago on the Explorer. We did Bernard's tour. However, we had horrible port times, 12-9pm. Bernard's tour was very hurried and we skipped a lot of things and didn't have much beach time. By the time we got back to Front Street, most of the stores were closed and had to do some shopping at the shops at the pier.

This time we would prefer to have more time at the beach and then more time to shop. We will be in port from 8am to 5pm. Last time I did some research, I seem to remember you can take a water taxi to a small beach that sits sort of behind Front Street that you can see from the Pier. This would be convenient so that we could do our beach time and then just walk to Front Street and do our shopping. Am I remembering correctly? And if we can do this, which stop on the water taxi would we get off at? Plus, does this beach rent chairs and umbrellas?

    Thanks for any help!
