  1. So, we are going on a Viking cruise for 21 days - called the Iconic Western Mediterranean cruise. I would like to use my GPS to geocache and load a pocket query for each stop but how can I get accurate addresses or coordinates for each port of call? Thanks.

I've been Geocaching on cruises since 2009. You can search for any port in the world on Geocaching.com and then build your pocket query. I like Bermuda as I can load all 250 or more Geocaches on just one pocket query download. Another good app for Geocaching is Geocaching Swiss Army Knife (GSAK), which allows you to collect and organize caches as you wish. For example, I have GSAK databases named "Home", "Cruise", "Ann Arbor" (where my grandkids live), etc. GSAK allows me to assemble all the caches on a many-ported cruise on one download. I use a Garmin Oregon which, with a micro sd card, holds at least 500 caches. With GSAK, one upload before the cruise is all you'll need. Enjoy!

  2. Thanks for that! Just another question, how do you pre load the caches and do you not use the geo app, you use a different one?

    1. For the Garmin, I upload the results of my pocket queries onto GSAK, combine them in a database I name CRUISE and, when ready to preload, send CRUISE to the GPS. (GSAK allows you to set up your GPS device to accept the downloads.)

    2. There are two geo apps, the $10 one from Geocaching.com and the FREE one from C:GEO. I've always used the C:GEO app; it's really good. For Android, it's available on Play Store.

  3. Some suggestions for new Geocachers concerned with using data while on cruises. I've been Geocaching for a few years at cruise ports. I carry both a Garmin Oregon and an Android smartphone on which I preload my caches. (I never have to go online while caching and I wait for WiFi before logging.) For the Garmin, I use GSAK (GSAK.net) which allows me to assemble pocket query results by port and group them together for the cruise. For the smartphone, I use C:GEO, the free app, to also save pocket queries. With a little practice, it's pretty straightforward and convenient. On a recent cruise to Bermuda, I arrived prepared with all (about 250) Bermuda caches saved offline and ready to go. (Lots of DNFs, but that's another story.)

  4. We are very much into fitness/weightlifting more than aerobic. The gym on Celebrity Summit is great and we are hoping that Grandeurs will be good to? We are booked on a 12 night cruise.

I've used the Grandeur fitness center a number of times, but just recently used the Summit fitness center for the first time. The Grandeur's is smaller, with fewer machines and free weights. There is also less room for individual floor exercise, but if you plan, you can avoid the crowds and the classes. Also, the steam and sauna are just downstairs, and the Park Cafe is nearby. (Perhaps you find the latter extraneous information, but I like their accessibility.) Even though it's smaller, plan to enjoy it.

  5. Off on the Grandeur on April 18th to Cozumel, Georgetown, Falmouth, and Labadee. Cozumel and Georgetown have a number of caches that a long walk can deliver, but very few accessible ones at the last two. I'm may set up event caches on the 24th for Falmouth and the 25th for Labadee. (There's one cache at Labadee, but I logged it some time ago.) I've found the Eastern Caribbean great for caching, with Saint Martin outstanding if you like long walks and good climbs!
