Well, we are sailing on March 8th. Haven't started travel yet, but as soon as I saw the policy change I called in. I agree it's good and 2022 is a great move, BUT......

No flexibility. So we, from Seattle area, are left with 2 options - (1) throw away all our money, or (2) ignore government advice not to travel, avoid gatherings etc. Being from Seattle, an area with students who attend schools now closed and with most major businesses requiring anyone who can to work from home, why am I given no option but to continue with my travel or throw away my money. I am Latitudes Gold but this (if I go) will be my last NCL Cruise. Maybe I should escalate my case to Mike Pence for his meeting with the cruise lines tomorrow. What is the difference in terms of safety from doing it effective immediately or doing it next Tuesday - it just puts more people at risk. Of course, the obvious answer, is that it's about the money for NCL. Sad....

I note that Holland America also brought in a 3 day cancellation policy but also WAIVED the 3 day requirement for anyone with imminent sailings. Called NCL and escalated to a supervisor who fully understood but said that they have NO FLEXIBILITY in this policy.

So, congratulations NCL for continuing to put people at risk. Make it effective immediately.

We are also supposed to be on a March 8th sailing. I agree with you 100%. This is not the right thing. Its ok for us to put ourselves at risk or be penalized 100% but someone leaving two days later than us has 0 penalties and have the choice?!!!

  2. I just called NCL. Our cruise is this Sunday. NCL told me too bad. I can cancel with no money back- thats my choice. But someone who is leaving 2 days later than me has the choice and full credit?!. This is absurd!.  I'm waiting to hear back from my TA about my insurance.. I'm so scared about getting quarantined on a ship. Not scared about catching it. I don't know what to do.

    Just got this from NCL:

For all new and existing individual and group bookings that embark from March 10, 2020 through and including September 30, 2020:

    • Guests can cancel up until 48 hours prior to vacation start date.  Cancelled reservations that occur prior to 48 hours to vacation date will receive a 100% future cruise credit (FCC) to be used for ANY Norwegian sailing embarking on or before December 31, 2022.
      • Vacation start date includes any pre-hotel or Cruisetour packages booked through Norwegian.
      • FCC will include all components of the reservation that have been paid, including but not limited to: shore excursions, beverage and dining packages (including associated gratuities), service charges and air or transfers pre purchased through Norwegian.
        • Note any insurance purchased on existing bookings will not be included in the FCC amount

And what about those Vacations that start before March 10th? We’re due to leave on This Sunday March 8th out of NYC And I’m really starting to think twice.

I will say that I have been immediately in the closest room to the elevators on the -away class ships many times now and there is no noise from the elevators themselves or the traffic to/from them like you would expect. I now specifically book rooms right next to the elevators, because I find it so convenient to not have to try to traverse the narrow hallways.

Thank you!! That’s good to hear and very helpful!!

  5. Hoping for some experienced advice/feedback.  I am traveling with my husband and two young children- 5 and 3. We are going to book the Bliss out of NYC on March 8th. We have the option of a mid-ship balcony Room on Deck 10 or Mini-suite on Deck 13 or 14.  The Deck 10 cabin is one cabin from the mid ship elevators. The Deck 13/14 cabins are slightly more aft and in between the two elevators. I am trying to decide if its better to be completely mid ship (deck 10)-puts us closer to the kids program(on deck 5) and the dining/theaters/casino or if we should go with the mini-suite and be further from the elevators, higher up but closer to the pool/buffet.  Any advice?  I overthink too much 😕

Thanks, I wasn't aware that option existed.  Still, as Ubers are all individual "businesses," you'll likely find that relatively few have car seat options; I doubt that a very high % of Uber drivers maintain an inventory of car seats, especially considering that there are multiple sizes/styles for different sized/aged children.    In a relatively small market like Charleston, I still think your best bet, to insure car seat availability, would be a professional car service, in which a single business manages a larger fleet.

Thank you!  Can you recommend any reputable car services that you know of in Charleston?

  7. So happy to have stumbled across this thread and I have much to continue reading. We will be taking the Ecstasy out of Charleston Mid March. Taking Amtrak down from NJ which will get us in the evening before the cruise around 7/8PM. I've read some worrisome articles about the amtrak station in north charleston. Originally I envisioned we would just reach out for an uber when we arrived, now I'm wondering if we should have a taxi schedule/waiting for us so my family and I are not standing around looking lost/helpless. Any suggestions? Should I be worried about getting into the station in the evening? (not that I have any other options at this point..)..We're staying at Elliott house the evening we get in. Does anyone know if any taxis or car services come with car seats? (highly unlikely...)

    Thanks!
