We have sailed both, and will not go back on Princess. RCI is by far a better choice for us. Although the Princess ship (Emerald) was the most beautiful ship I’ve been on, and the Southern Carribean itinerary was awesome, the only other good thing I can say about Princess is the movies under the stars are great. Loved lying out on loungers way up on the top deck and getting served warm cookies and milk while watching a movie. Very enjoyable and relaxing. However, there was so much undesirable things on this cruise that we will never go back. First, the passengers do seem to be a very “entitled” group and were overly conscious of their “card color”. Ridiculous. Secondly, I did not like the food choices at all. No, I didn’t starve. There was always something good to eat, but the menu was way to weird for our taste. Too much seafood and strange concoctions. The service in the dining room was rushed and the waiters were not friendly at all. Very businesslike and not personable. Then there’s the drinks. Order a mixed drink and you get half a drink. If you want a “double” then you get a full drink. I complained about this and tried using different bars, but same story. And no two bars seemed to agree on what a specific drink is. Ask for a Miami Vice and get five different drinks from five different bars. I don’t drink at home except for an occasional glass of wine, but on vacation I love to try all those tropical drinks and such. Very disappointing to have to pay double the already high cost just to get a full drink. Now for the biggest complaint. The entertainment staff was horrendous. They ruined more than a couple fun nights out. A group of 20/30 somethings who are all about themselves and having a good old time among themselves does nothing to make for a good time for passengers. The “deck party” started out fun. Everyone was dancing and having a good time. Then the “staff” make everyone get off the dance floor while they proceeded to take over the floor and show their moves for a very long time. People got bored and started leaving. When they FINALLY let passengers back on the dance floor, they removed the chairs while people were dancing so there was no place to sit when you went back to where you were sitting. Party over……. Worst deck party ever. Similar thing happened at one of the clubs. Everyone was dancing to the live band and having a good time. Place was actually filled. Then the “staff” came in, made everyone vacate the dance floor while they played a very childish and lame game show – again, among themselves – and 90% of the passengers left. There were maybe ten of us left after that, and nobody that left returned . Party over…….. Royal Carribbean is fun and lively and they know how to throw a party. If I had children with me, they would be number 1 choice. Even without kids, it’s still my number 1 choice.
