  1. This was NOT a glitch, and I did purchase one of these cruises for ~$500 for oceanview for 3 of us T&F included. What happened was that the original itineraries of these ships included Havana, which is now off limits.

This resulted in many cancellations, and Carnival needing to fill up cabins on short notice.

Amusingly, when calling in to ask a question, the agent informed us that the last day to pay off our cruise had passed. To this we replied we had already paid in full. She checked somewhere else and apologized, saying she only saw the amount at first.

  2. I just read this on reddit, but I think it would be worthwhile posted here. While traveling to foreign countries can be an enriching experience from both sides, we must always be cognizant of how our actions affect others.

'Another sad day for the reefs of Grand Cayman. Today we noticed that the Pullmantur Zenith (a division of Royal Caribbean Cruise lines) was anchored oddly close to the reef so we decided to go out and have a look...As you will see in the video, a massive portion of the reef out front from Don Fosters and Eden Rock was completely destroyed today. The Department of Environment was contacted but nothing could be done because this was a designated anchorage zone and they were given permission to drop anchor. In the previous several decades this pristine portion of the reef was never needed as an anchorage location but for some reason today, when there was only 4 ships in port, it was deemed necessary. As part of the marine park, we are not allowed to fish here, not allowed to hunt lobsters, you can't even pick up an empty shell, all in the name of conservation?....but for some reason you can drop an anchor and wipe out a reef that took thousands of years to grow.

This video was shot roughly an hour after the anchor was dropped, I can't imagine what it looks like now.'

  3. I don't know about a regular schedule, but Disney has announced on their DCL Facebook page that the summer 2016 cruises will be announced sometime this week.

Great! Thank you Pris. This was exactly what I was looking for. I will have to start checking their FB Page. Kudos to you.

Demand based pricing can be a pain in the buns if you're not prepared out of the gate.

Thanks to everyone else for their advice. There's some fine suggestions I'm sure will help out a bunch.

  4. Hi All,

The family and I are planning to go on a Disney cruise sometime later this year to possibly as far as late next year. Our plans are still long term, and our dates are fairly flexible.

We've been on several cruises before, but never on DCL. Besides being a bit pricier, there also don't seem to be many discounts to had with DCL, as compared to other cruise lines. We are all Florida residents, and I am former military (not retired), but it doesn't seem to make much difference.

I've done some research into the pricing, and from all accounts it looks like the best bang for your proverbial buck is gotten by buying when the dates first go on sale. Is there some type of schedule, or rhyme or reason when this happens?

Also, someone had suggested using a travel agent to book our cruise. I've not used one in years. Would it be worthwhile to seek one out?

    Thanks!

  5. Hi John,

There is a shared ride service in Miami/Fort Lauderdale called Super Shuttle. It works well for exactly your type of situation. They will pick you up at either the Airport, Seaport, or from your hotel, and drop you off at the airport or other landmark, for a flat rate. Their vans are very similar to hotel shuttles. Also, they have a fare calculator on their website that will let you price it out in advance.

Much cheaper than a cab, especially if you hit downtown Miami traffic (ugh). Having lived in Miami for over 20 years, I can say many of the cabs are smelly and corrupt. Also, a good number of them do not speak English fluently- if at all. A cab would be my last resort.

  6. You would be surprised how many people want to bring a guitar or flute or violin etc onboard so their special snowflake can keep up their practice.

And imagine how that could disturb neighbors or others on deck.

I see no problem with this whatsoever, except that weapons and/or firearms are also prohibited. :D
