You just argued that vaccines work.  The vast majority of people exposed to the virus after being vaccinated will not even know they have it.  And it is certainly not established that vaccinated people can transfer the virus.  And if everyone on board is vaccinated, even IF the virus gets on board and IF it is transferred, everyone is vaccinated and won't even know it.

If we live by your thinking, we should all live in fear of getting measles, the mumps, polio, small pox, TB and all the other things we have been vaccinated against.

I agree with you, but I also agree that there will be positives ---and that the CDC will shut down cruising because there are positives.

People will be confined to their cabins, the virus will spread(even if only in the form of positive test results). It doesn't matter if the symptoms are minor or nonexistent.

The CDC is calling all the shots here - and they've decided that Covid is DANGEROUS/DEADLY/hopeless and without end (thus the fear of the endless variants)

For over a year, the belief in asymptomatic spread is the tie that binds us. They're not letting go of that.

    yeah sure if 99% survive who cares? Let's see .01% x 330,000,000 (U.S. population)= only 3,300,000 American deaths.

I always love how some want to disregard the personal sacrifice of millions of Americans to get vaccinated, socially distance, mask and protect themselves, their families and their employees ober 14 months and then say see all that stuff we did to ourselves didn't help. How do they know that? Its more likely scientifically that we would have have had multitudes of great death-so maybe we could be looking at 3,300,000 American dead rather than 560,000.

This is a great illustration of exactly what DCGuy64 was talking about

Interesting how some companies have reacted differently...we have not missed one day of work and employ about 500 employees on a daily average...so far, about a half dozen folks have been out for a week or so because they tested positive...no others have been effected...yes, about 10% of the workforce has done work from home, but since we mostly work in a Classified environment, work from home is not doable.  Took precautions, educated the workforce, and pressed forward.  I'd say our organization is a prime example of how too mnay companies over-reacted and have crushed their businesses.  Not one employee in this organization has lost a cent over the last 10 months!

I live in Pennsylvania. Companies were forced to over-react, or lose their business licenses. The crushing result was the same either way.

I may need to move to South Carolina.

What do you want to know? Benefits? Layout? Balcony size?

I wanted to know for sure that balconies are covered on Royal class mini-suite balconies.

And, mostly, why the links for the reviews aren't working at all.

Why did you make a final payment in a cruise that “everyone” knew was going to be cancelled?  And then blame in on Celebrity?

I cancelled my Azamara cruise when the airlines stopped flying Americans to Europe- it ended up costing me $150 for the booking because I hadn't  waited for the line to cancel. It was a policy I knew when I booked- if I had paid in full, then they cancelled, it wouldn't have cost me anything.  I just didn't want so much tied up in refunds.

Since Celebrity and Azamara are both RCCL, I suspect the policy was similar.

  6. Princess did that to us once on a 27-day cruise i.e. "upgraded"/moved the cabin we had booked(and marked no-upgrades).

Told me over and over there was nothing they could do about it.  Our TA eventually got us our cabin back, but it took nearly a month and numerous phone calls - and left a really bad taste.

I'm tired of the pandemic being used as an excuse for bad customer service. This kind of thing shouldn't happen, and certainly not a year+ out.

I don’t disagree with anything you said. Your comment brings up the point friends and I have talked about frequently. Carnival has attracted a lot of people over the years because they consistently offered the lowest prices in the industry (I realize there are exceptions to this at times). If it gets to the point that people can no longer afford to cruise on Carnival, these people are likely not going to go on a cruise. If this becomes a large enough number of people, it could significantly impact Carnival. Of course this could possibly be offset by people who in the past cruised on higher priced cruise lines who might find Carnival’s prices more attractive. Obviously this is all subjective but I think this is going to be very interesting to follow once cruising resumes from US ports.

I do love the Carnival product - the food, the comedy shows, the ships, the crew etc. but the problems that led me to move to other lines had everything to do with recent passengers. I'll be happy if the brawlers and the people who watch videos on their phones during dinner, find another way to travel.

As long as Carnival can still fill their ships/make a profit. I'd be happy to come back to Carnival.

  8. Different opinions don't necessarily mean that one person is more or less informed than another. The same information can lead to different opinions. Someone can refuse a vaccine based on information(or lack of), just as someone else will choose the vaccine based on their own conclusions.

The risk of Covid is greater for my parents, than whatever side effects the vaccine is likely to have. So they will get it as soon as they are able.

I think the risk of the virus is low for me and, knowing the problems that the H1N1 vaccine roll-out had, I will wait and see. Or have to get it in order to travel. The choice though, should be mine, and of no concern to anyone else. If I still don't feel comfortable with it, and it's required, then I won't travel. People have never been this self-righteous about flu shots(which I've gotten every.single.year), but somehow think my choice on the Covid shot is open for debate.

I wanted to go to Kenya. I was required to get a yellow fever shot, so I did. I also had to take malaria pills. If these things were new to the market, I might've put off my Kenya trip. And no one but me would've cared.

Actually, no. But that's the reality-based world speaking.

Facts are not subject to opinion, and they're not at all interchangeable.

That's what the same posters on CC have been irresponsibly posting the same uninformed "predictions" about the restart of cruising since April ... and have been strong each and every time. It's unfortunate that some unsuspecting CC members apparently used that "information" as guidance to booking new cruises during a pandemic, Or choosing future credits over refunds.

People analytically reviewing evidence and reaching rational conclusions is how we make reality-based predictions. People spouting rhetoric, talking points and emotion-based fantasy is how we got (just a few months ago) to a board filled with dissatisfied customers angry at feeling scammed by the cruise lines & bitterly disappointed by canceled vacations.

WADR - Facts do lead to different opinions. Otherwise CruiseCritic would have no point.

I show up at 10:00 to check in for a cruise and the place is a madhouse FACT

I think, wow I shouldn't come at 10:00 next time I cruise with this line.

Someone else thinks, incompetence, there should be more people working to keep the lines down. I will not cruise with this company again.

Both are valid opinions based on the same fact, leading to different conclusions.

The opinions that result from a set of facts can be opposites. Doesn't make one right or wrong. They're just opinions.

And I firmly believe that people make their own decisions based on their own conclusions. They themselves are responsible for their own decisions.

  10. In 2002 we did the Baltic on the Norwegian Dream. Dottie was the cruise director and her husband(don't remember his name) was the comedian. His shows were still the funniest I've ever experienced on a ship. I remember he did the regular G-rated, and then an adult show one or two nights. About 30 cruises later, Dottie is one of only 2 cruise directors whose names I remember(the other is John Heald).

Sigh.  8 months into this, and people still don't understand jurisdiction.  If the CDC had jurisdiction over a hotel, there may or may not be different covid restrictions on hotels.  We will never know, because the CDC knows they don't have jurisdiction, so they don't waste their time thinking about hotels.

Doesn't the CDC have jurisdiction over airports? I don't understand why those are open but cruiseports are closed.

I flew to Cancun in September just to sit on the beach, didn't pretend otherwise. It was tourism.

One only has to look at New Zealand (a member of W.H.O.) and their success where the US has failed time and again. New Zealand used science instead of lockdowns, and didn't suffer from a leadership vacuum. They have offered to help the US and I hope President Biden listens.

New Zealand is surrounded by water. The United States shares (porous) borders with 2 countries.

New Zealand is the size of Colorado.

New Zealand has just under 5 million people. The US? Nearly 330 million people.

    Facts.

Plop New Zealand anywhere else in the world, surround it with large numbers of people from other countries, and watch the same exact problems develop(as it has everywhere that isn't an island nation). Oh, and multiply the population by nearly 70.

This virus doesn't know who the leadership is, or who the party in power is.

OK I am going to have re-schedule once again when ncl cancels for January. i have also noticed very high prices on some of these cruises I am looking at. Any idea when it will be safe to schedule out of NYC? Do you think April or May will be to soon? all ideas suggestions appreciated

FWIW(since my opinion means no more than anyone else's)

I wouldn't book anything out of a US port. The more these cruise lines are jerked around by the CDC, as they are set apart from all other means of transportation, the more likely the lines will move elsewhere. It's far too expensive to put openings into action, under truly oppressive guidelines, only to have the whole thing closed down again. And again, and again. Or not. Who knows?

I would leave the US, if I was trying to run a huge business that a country(or at least one very powerful agency) was actively trying to put OUT of business.

I'm looking into Cancun trip, Did ya have to wear mask's and distance ?

We had to fill out a health questionnaire to fly into Mexico, similar to the one the cruiselines had us do in the past.

Masks in public areas, not at the pool or the beach, just walking around.

Number of tables was pared down in the restaurants, or blocked off. Mask off when eating or drinking.

Limits on # in elevators, and people generally kept their distance, although no one was actively enforcing that.

Our bags were 'treated'(whatever that means) before being delivered to our rooms.

There were many many hand sanitizer stations all over, and we were asked to use them before entering any place.

Ours had a buffet with individually wrapped/packed cold items and condiments. Everything else was served by gloved/masked staff.

They were at 60% capacity later in the week, so it got quite crowded/busy.

And we're still alive to tell the tale.

I don't see why cruising can't start with similar precautions for those who want to go.

Did he forget the whole month they just ignored the virus was a threat?

Ignored?  Which month was it ignored?

Action was taken in late January, and known cases were tracked and quarantined. It was, at that point, under control in the US.

    https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm

Better to ask what happened in late February/early March that caused it to spiral out of control in the state of Washington.

We know what happened in New York:

No kidding! New positive cases are through the roof. Hospitals are filling up. All because FL ignored CDC advice to only reopen after a consistent downward trend in positive cases.

Its going to suck for all of us who want to go on cruises soon.

But this was going to happen no matter what, no matter when.

People can't/won't hide in their houses forever -- and that's the only sure way to stop the spread. The lockdown was to slow it, not to stop it.

Whether people get it on a ship, a plane, a restaurant or a store, they're still going to get it --- nothing short of hiding will stop that. So hide if you have to(and I know people who have to), but we can't all hide forever.
