A short update, there are a number of entertainers now sick, dance hosts stopped

in the last couple of days the cleaning in the self serve has improved, after prompting by passengers the tables are now washed between passengers sitting down, pots of jam at breakfast removed

as we have been confined and had plenty of time we have drafted our complaint letter for saga, I know noro virus is very common, our complaint is the way it is being handled, not that it’s there. Remember on the cruise before last the spirit was not allowed into Gibraltar. The captain seemed proud that there were 20 new cases a day,

    Peoples  cruises are being ruined

  2. Thanks for all comments on this post. Feel I am better informed regarding situation on SOD. Really sorry that many passengers have/had the dreaded norovirus & do hope all are symptom free soon. Your advice has been helpful and,  as a passenger who will be boarding on 2 March, its good to know that stringent measures are being enforced. If any of the officers or crew are reading this - Please continue monitoring cleanliness & serving at buffet etc. A couple of days ago I was all for abandoning the trip but feel more positive about it now.

Not at all.  My information came from passengers currently on the ship, and comments here seem to support what they're saying.  I was considering Saga as an alternative to P&O, but as with everything I like to do a bit of research before making expensive purchases - all this worries me.

Have just phoned Saga cruises re my 2 Mar SOD booking. Have been told there is NO norovirus disease on board. The lady I spoke to said she knew nothing about it. If there was, she said I would be contacted. So people are ill on the Norway cruise.

What is the ships doctor/captain calling it?? I wonder.

Saga do seem to be trying to keep this very quiet.  I'm sorry you've been so badly affected by it and that everything's soon OK for you both.

Some questions for Saga to answer, but if they successfully keep it quiet, nobody will be asking them!

Watching this post with great concern.

Am booked on SOD cruise to Canaries 2 March from Southampton. Norovirus is very unpleasant & its ridiculous that adequate cleaning between cruises has obviously NOT been carried out.

(To add insult to injury there has been an incidence of coronavirus on Tenerife reported today. What next? )

Part of the enjoyment of a cruise is the looking  forward to it with anticipation. Sadly, before I even step onto the ship, that factor has been completely destroyed.

Hi Pearl, I don't think you were misinformed, but rather there is a bit of both/and. The first option for storage will be under your bed, but then if there is overflow, I believe there is a storage closet the butlers use when necessary. In either case, your luggage will be out of sight and out of your way.

Enjoy! April is coming up soon!

Unibok. Thanks for your input and thanks also for your recent cruise in Asia postings. Loved reading them & all the pics.

April is indeed approaching. Thank goodness. If I had to wait longer I might buy even more 'gear' & then need yet another suitcase...  Never enough to need the Baggage Valet, though.

  6.  Stumblefoot.

Can't remember who my mis-informant was.  Perhaps they had used another line.

I wish I could cruise like Jollyjones & only take cabin baggage, but for a 15 nighter that includes an evening dress etc, I find it impossible. On the other hand, do all your 6 pieces of luggage always arrive at the airport together? Its my worst nightmare that I have to board with only the clothes I am wearing. No fear of that happening to you..

My V suite  looks big enough for my 2 cases to be accommodated without being a tripping hazard.

    Thanks for your speedy response.

  7. Have not used Silversea for a cruise  -  Yet.    That happens for me in April. And I would not take enough luggage to justify using Baggage Valet, so have not looked into that.

However, I was of the impression that once unpacking has been completed, the empty suitcases are removed & stored elsewhere on the Shadow. At the end of the voyage/cruise, they are cleaned & returned by the butler.

When I read of passengers storing them under beds it makes me wonder if I have got it wrong?

Perhaps that's a service that used to happen & no longer does. ???

  8. Some risk with guarantee suites. If you do not like location - eg: under pool deck & hear deck chairs moved around etc, you have no choice but to accept that. Personally, I like to be mid ship with passengers above & below, & either side & on a low deck on smaller ships so less motion. I initially tried to book my Shadow cruise with Silversea & the salesperson would not allocate a suite number. I then consulted a Cruise specialist & hey presto! I got the suite # I wanted AND it was less expensive than the SS offer. Good Luck with your booking

Realtime update: it is now well past 11:00, the time by which all luggage must be in the hallway for disembarkation tomorrow.

The laundrette is STILL churning along! Somebody is STILL doing their laundry!!!

TTS -- what terrific/terrible examples. By and large, our passenger mix has been lovely, but the laundrette does seem to bring out the worst in some of them. I thought a few folks might actually come to fisticuffs. All the more reason to keep working toward my

100 days and free laundry 🙂

    🙂

Until then, I'll enjoy the Hong Kong skyline for one final night onboard. Laundry scuffles aside, this has been a stellar, near-perfect 2 weeks onboard the Silver Shadow.

  11. V Many thanks for posting so regularly as your trip progresses. Especially considering the difficulties with Wifi reception onboard. Really enjoying your comments and pictures & so glad its so positive. The menu is making my mouth water and its 66 days till I can sample some of LaTerrazza's offerings when I board Silver Shadow in Dubai. I have just gone onto My Silversea & booked a few nights to dine there. Thanks.

Sending my best wishes for the remainder of your trip and a safe journey home.

  12. Just found this while browsing. Very very interesting for me. I sail from Dubai to Athens on Silver shadow 26April 2019.

So much helpful information included in your text & photographs. Very much appreciated.

Have not used SS before so your account gave me a good idea of what to expect.

    Happy future cruising.
