I believe they did, yes.  However, I know there were very few English language shore excursions offered.  So you may find your choices to be fairly limited.

We were fortunate enough to be in a junior suite 7238 and were able to get priority disembarkation at the ports.

In Osaka where everyone had to get off the ship for customs clearance whether you were doing a tour or not, this was very helpful. We arranged a local tour guide for Osaka who acted as a guide and translator, it was very helpful to have a local person guiding us around.

  2. The original reports of a "freak wave" were astounding. If the sea was so rough that a wave could possibly even spray onto deck 7, that deck is locked off. I can't see how anyone who has been on a cruiseship could conceive of a freak wave washing someone off deck 15.

I have seen a video of a wave going over the top of the Dome on Regal Princess before she became Pacific Dawn, but all decks were closed at that stage....there is no Deck 15 on Pacific Dawn the highest deck is Deck 14....

  3. You are so right. For Brisbane the average sized cruise ships can't get under the Storey Bridge so you're at a freight port a fair (not passenger friendly) distance out. Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast (love both those areas) are an hours drive away. Lovely beaches at both those places, plus plenty of other stuff to do, theme parks, wildlife places etc. I guess that's why Aus tends to get the older, smaller boats which rock around in the water too much. The larger, newer ships tend to be much more stable. Star feels very stable.

No cruise ships can get under the Storey Bridge...

  4. Carnival Splendor is the sole ship of the Splendor class, a smaller, modified version of the Concordia-class cruise ship, operated by Costa. She entered service on 2 July 2008. At 113,323 GT,[6] she was the largest ship in Carnival Cruise Line until Carnival Dream debuted in September 2009. There are currently no plans to build another ship like her. The Carnival Splendor is widely known for the November 2010 incident in which a fire started in the engine room, shutting down all electrical power to the ship.

The ship was originally designed and ordered for Costa Cruises and is similar in design to Costa Serena, Costa Pacifica, Costa Favolosa, Costa Concordia, and the Costa Fascinosa with a larger spa and children's facilities. But the Carnival Splendor was transferred to Carnival Cruise Lines during construction.[7]

On December 15, 2016 it was announced that the ship would be transfer to the P&O Cruises Australia fleet in 2019.[8]

  5. Yes true, but why does Princess do it so well and offer fantastic compensation in comparison. It's so typical of Royal's nickel and dime approach to it's loyal clients and we are diamond plus with over 340 sea days, I guess we are simply a number at the end of the day.

A move over compensation would only be for a limited number of guests which would mean they could offer extra incentive, a whole ship being chartered is completely different.

  6. Hi Folks,

We have purchased drink packages on VOS in March. Not sure on this but can anyone confirm that you can use your package on land at Mystery Island. We have done the south pacific before but this is the first time to Mystery Island.

Love to no if this can be done.

    Thanks,

    Steve.

We could at Mystery Island in April on Voyager, either that or they were giving out free beer.

  7. How cool is this!! I go to the webcam site and see a ship carrying a ship.

At some point this is how the Concordia was going to be transported off Giglio but they decided to tow instead. This one seems to be carrying either a ferry or a small cruise ship. Not as big as Dockwise Vanguard.

    It is Le Boreal

British forces based on the Falkland Islands prevented a "human tragedy" when they helped evacuate a French cruise ship crippled by major engine room fire.

All 347 passengers and crew were rescued from Le Boreal, which had lost power and was in danger of grounding on East Falkland on Wednesday.
