  1. We haven't cruised for a few years and my husband is unsure what he will need for the dining room in the evenings. I looked at the literature provided by Holland America and it doesn't mention wearing a jacket and tie in the dining room, yet I'm sure that was previously required. I would appreciate some advice as we don't want to pack a suit, with dress shirts and ties if we don't need them. Thanks in advance for any clarification.

  2. We have already booked the 7 day " Authentic Cuba" cruise with HAL. in January. Due to personal issues it was something of a rushed decision, but now I am surprised to see that there are no excursions in Cuba, other than 2 "nightlife" events, which don'really interest me. We are Canadian, and I'm wondering if it will be acceptable for me to organize my own tour? Anyone have any ideas?

  3. My first time on NCL, first time to Hawaii too, so we're very excited.

I've heard some good things, but I know that this is a different cruise line from our usual. ( HAL and Carnival)

All I really want to know is whether we can order our usual tea and coffee with breakfast pastries, delivered to our cabin in the morning. And if we can, do we have to pay a service charge for this ?

On our previous cruises, with other lines, we've always done this and other than tipping the room service waiter a couple of dollars, there hasn't been any charge on our bill.

I'd appreciate anyone who can set me straight on this.

Also are there hair dryers in the cabins?

  4. We have cruised previously on HAL and Carnival. This is our first time on Norwegian. Some have suggested that we will find Norwegian very different, in the quality and services provided. But no-one is specific. I have been on-line, but already found that the NCL website is not as informative as I would like.

Will I still be able to get my early morning coffee delivered to my cabin?

We are doing the Hawaii circle tour. Pride of America. We are in port everyday - no sea days. will there still be any formal nights in the dining room?

Can any of you experience cruisers can answer my questions please.

  5. Yes, I realized that it wasn't as close to shops and restaurants as I would have liked.

But I had seen so many hotels that were already fully booked for the dates I needed that I was starting to feel a bit desperate!

I think that the Water Taxi is just a short walk away, and as you say, we can always get a cab. The hotel does look nice and I'm sure we'll be comfortable.

  6. Well - I decided to do a little reading on this very informative site.

I made notes of the hotels that you were all recommending, and then went online to see what I could find.

I hate doing things like this - always worrying that I'll make a big mistake and get ripped off, finally made a reservation for Hyatt Regency Pier 66, and the price was $145 per night.for Dec. 14th to Dec 18th.

Someone please tell me that I did the right thing and that we are going to like the hotel, then I'll be able to sleep tonite!

  7. Hi everyone. We are cruising from Ft. Lauderdale, and after our cruise we are staying in Ft. Lauderdale for an extra 4 days. The night before the cruise we are staying in a Holiday Inn that is close to the port, but for our extra days vacation

we are looking for a reasonably ( maybe even budget ? ) priced hotel. Something fairly close to the touristy areas, with shops, cafes, beaches, in a safe area. We will not be renting a car and my hubby is a little mobility challenged, so we'd like to be close to a beach and all amenities.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  8. Wow -this is a long thread - didn't have time to read it all, so if these issues have already been answered, my apologies.

My husband is mildly disabled - walks with a walker, but can manage a few steps alone, or with my arm for support.

We thought of renting a clamshell, so that we could spend a few hours on the beach, and I can take a dip in the ocean, leaving him comfortable in the shade.

Will it be possible to find a clamshell that will be only a very short walk from a proper walkway or footpath ( walkers don't do well in sand at all)

Obviously he will not be able to tramp all over the beach, but as I said previously, he can manage a few steps, and would enjoy the beach experience so much.

I don't want to rent one and then find that they are all a couple of hundred yards down the beach.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

  9. What a great idea this is. I enjoyed seeing the pictures of all the pretty dresses being "recycled". Such generous ladies too!

I lost quite a lot of weight over the last two years (finally) and needed a whole new wardrobe. I ended up at a couple of consignment stores in our city because there was just no way that I could afford to buy everything new. I got some great "new to me" outfits, and passed all my larger sized clothes to a local charity shop.

I had some lovely formal dresses for special occasions - but wasn't a cruisecritic member at the time, so sadly they are gone.

Next time I'll know where to post these items.
