We cruised to Bermuda on May 12, 2019 and spent the week in paradise. The weather was perfect and we swam at Horsehoe Bay. While the water temperature was in the mid-70’s, it was very refreshing.

Bed near bathroom. Waking up to a view of the glorious Bermuda blue sea at Royal Naval Dockyard from our cozy bed was one of the highlights of our last cruise.

This guy has a superior attitude which makes cruising unpleasant for many other passengers. Justice was done when he was escorted from the ship. I’ll bet people were clapping as he slithered off.

quote=sumonami;54424455]I disagree that tipping on the front-end is construed as an insult to a service professional. As a very seasoned traveler, I prefer exceptional service over "satisfactory" service any day of the week. As such, I always give a 20 to my room steward upon our first meeting when I request more/better pillows, a plush robe, ice at both am/pm service, and any other little extra requests I may have. I also give various other staff members a generous tip on day one- ensures a better table at dinner, a better pour at the bar, etc.
If you'd like to call it a bribe, well, that's your prerogative. I'll sit back comfortably in my plush robe, stiff drink in hand, feeling happy on the inside knowing I scratched their backs and in return, they scratched mine;-)
I agree wholeheartedly Sumonami. The smiles all around are truly worth the extra effort.

. Well said!I think it's a lovely idea. These are hard-working people who are away from their family, and any kind of little gift is appreciated no matter what part of the world you are from!
I also do not agree with someone saying that you should never tip before hand.
As soon as I'm on the ship, I'm handing out five dollar bills for anybody helps us.
If you want to call it a bribe, go ahead.😁 You won't hurt my feelings, but it sure gets me seated a bit quicker at times !
And I also found I rarely had to ask for anything twice after giving someone a gratuity.
I don't think they make a lot of money working on the ships, and if I can afford a cruise, I can afford showing someone my appreciation .
Just my thoughts! :*

Interesting responses. Seems we all want the same result, make someone’s day on our cruise vacations.

Not a bribe, a tip, you know, a small token of appreciation. Makes me feel good inside.

I have a simple trick to getting the best service from your room steward and seeing one towel animal per day in your stateroom.....
Tipping above and beyond the daily service charge
Start with a $5.00 or $10.00 tip on the first day.
Works like a charm - to date, after 8 cruises, we have never experienced an unfriendly steward, run out of towels or found messy a messy cabin after a day away. :):):)

We are a couple who enjoys making 6:00 pm specialty restaurant dinner reservations in advance of our cruise. Nothing worse than calling for a reservation on the ship and being given the choice of 8:30 or 9:00 pm.

What a fabulous review and so informative! Many thanks for all of the information and photos. An Alaskan Cruise is now on our shortlist.

NCL staff is trained to clean up dirty plates, cups, make beds, clean bathrooms if you let them in to do their job. Three days without a "house call" for cleaning is excessive through. I would have called for cleaning the first day!

The reversal of the cabin food ban is fine. However, the food and plates in the hallways are a real eyesore and are frankly disgusting. What is so bad about stacking empty plates in one's cabin?

Good Morning Cruisers!
Our trip begins when we step foot on the ship! Best wishes for everyone taking this "Mystery Cruise" and lots of prayers for the people of Bermuda!

I am all packed, will add in another sweatshirt!! If you see a woman walking around the Dawn in the same sweatshirt all week, it will be me!!
That's the cruising spirit! :)

We should all count our blessings. We are embarking on our cruise vacations while others will not have a roof over their heads in the next couple of days.

This not the point the OP wanted to address. I smell some old fashioned trolling and thread hijacking here.
Anyway, NCL makes a major mistake here and to me it seems they know this. Check out the ambiguous info on kids activities on the various NCL websites. I guess this will make a lot of parents think twice before booking with NCL way ahead.
No trolling here. Just observations...............

We have eaten at the Specialty restaurants alongside families with small children and even infants. Most are well behaved as they have experienced fine dining with their parents.
If you can't stand to spend 2 hours with your kids, you should have thought about that before you had them.

There is a good reason that the Kids Club is closed from 12-2 and 5-7......It is called lunch and dinner time. Why wouldn't you want to spend mealtimes with your children? NCL is very family friendly.................

Stop whining and spend some time with your kids...........

The best entertinment NCL has to offer is the Rock band Next Stage currently on the Jewel. The lead singer has a voice that carries throughtout the ship even though she is quite petite. Fire and Ice are also magnificent.
As for Jose and Patti, we were very unimpressed. They sound like every other lounge act - definitely not our cup of tea!
Has anyone received their refund from NCL?

We were thrilled to receive our cruise refund today in less than the 90 days quoted. Submitted refund request on 4/13/2020 and now we have it. Thank you NCL!
