  1. Celebrity has a shore excursion which I will be taking on a TA in November 2023.  As the ship will dock La Seyne I would expect that a shuttle (water taxi ?)will be provided by Celebrity as part of the tour to get us to Toulon. I understand that it is a walking tour.  The tour details indicate that after the tour which will start at 11:30 a.m and since it is 3 1/2 hours it will end about 3:00 p.m at. Cours Lafayette market. I assume Celebrity would provide us with a ticket to get us back to the ship. If any one has taken this tour before and can confirm the details I have mentioned above would be appreciated. Thanks Gary

  2. We are considering taking the Land of the Midnight Sun cruise in June 2019 on the Sapphire Princess and am looking for opinions on the itinerary and ship.

The only port we have visited before is Southampton. We have a friend that lives in Tromso so that day would be taken care of. I know the Flaam Railway is considered a must do by many but truthfully I haven't heard of the other ports. I am also researching ports on the Northern Europe board.

Ship: Sapphire Princes. We sailed on her in 2012 and enjoyed it but that was a long time ago! Does anyone have any current impressions to share?

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

If you considering the June 23, 2018 sailing on Sapphire Princess please not Flaam is non on that sailing, only on the August sailing. The June 23 sailing goes to Skjolden

  3. Just off the Emerald two weeks ago, in the self service laundry room you had to swipe your cabin card for tokens to use in the machines, one token to wash and one to dry. Each token costs $3.00. You can also get tokens at the customer service desk.

  4. The shuttle service in not on a fixed schedule. The shuttle driver/ supervisor makes the call depending on the demand. If you are the only ship in port, I am not sure that at 7:30 or 8 there will be a crowd waiting to reach HSB...

Honestly if you are 2, I would try to find 2 other pax on my roll call ( or at the Meet&Greet ) and I would split a taxi for the same cost.

Have a plan B to be sure to reach the beach early :)

    Have fun !

If you take the taxi to HSB can you take the shuttle back to the ship and how much do they charge for a one way trip?

  5. There's virtually no chance you'll make the 11:30 ferry unless the ship arrives early.

I'd go to Horseshoe Bay rather than Hamilton regardless on Sunday.

njhorsemen, Thank you for your reply and suggestion We will be in sailing from Boston October 10th, so we will be there before the transportation schedule changes. I presume the shuttle you are referring to is the small mini vans that have been mentioned on this board before costing previously $7.00 , which may be higher now since the taxi fares have just gone up. Thanks.

  6. I'd say it depends on whether there are one or two ships in port that day and whether it's the first full day the ships have been in port. Two ships and first day (such as Thursday with the Breakaway and Summit in port) equals a big crowd and the line forming early. I'd be on line no later than 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure, and more likely 45 minutes to an hour. If your ship is the only one in port probably 20-30 minutes ahead is OK.

I will be sailing on the Dawn in October, docking in Bermuda on a Sunday at 11:00 a.m.. We are considering going to Hamilton on the ferry. I understand there is no ferry to St. George on Sunday. Do you think it possible with the 11:00 a.m. docking to get off the ship and make the 11:30 ferry to Hamilton recognizing we will have to buy token/pass for the ferry/bus, or more likely we would end up having to wait for the next sailing at 1:30 p.m.. The other alternative rather than to Hamilton on the Sunday as there probably will not be too many stores open, is that we would just take the bus and go to the beach most likely Horseshoe Bay.

  7. There are buses convenient to the dock. You can catch the #7 or the special bus (express) to the beach.

Once you arrive at Horseshoe, there's quite a steep walk from the bus to the beach itself. There is a jitney van that costs somewhere around $3 roundtrip that will haul you up and down the hill.

A taxi will cost around $30 each way.

A 3 day bus/ferry pass will cost $35 per person and offers unlimited rides

Cash fare for the bus is $4.50 (exact change). If you buy transit tokens it will be $4.00 each way

You can also buy a ticket booklet for $30 that has 15 bus/ferry vouchers.

Looking at the prices stated above, if you buy tickets it works out to $2.00 per ticket, but if you buy tokens its $ 4.00. Why the difference, are tickets only good for so many zones or just for buses or just for the ferry or do you have to use two tickets for a fare?

  8. The #7 bus doesn't take you to the caves. It runs between Dockyard and Hamilton and the trip to Hamilton takes about an hour. You would then have to take the #1 or #3 bus. (You can also take the #10 or 11 but those lines don't leave you quite as close the caves as the 1 and 3.)

The best way to get to the caves from Dockyard is to take the ferry (20 minutes) from Dockyard to Hamilton. walk up to the bus terminal, and then take the #1 or 3.

Question: Is it faster to get to the caves by going to St. George from the dockyard and take the bus from St. George to the caves?

  9. Yes, you could take the bus from the Dockyard to St George, but it would require changing buses in Hamilton. If you were paying with cash or token, you could get a transfer for when you change buses. Travel time would be 60 minutes Dockyard > Hamilton plus 50 minutes Hamilton > St George.

For the amount of traveling you would be doing as you listed, I would go with the 2 day Transportation Pass for the convenience and the ability to do side trip(s) should someone want to.

If you buy a one day, two day, or three day, can it be used for more than one person travelling together at the same time, in other words do you have to buy a separate pass for each individual or can it be shared?

  10. Here is the response I received from the Port of Quebec.

The Norwegian Dawn will be at our Cruise Terminal, docked at Wharf 22 on October 3rd 2014. You can find a map at: http://www.portquebec.ca/en/cruises/information-for-cruise-ship-passengers/access-to-docks.

  11. I live here in Key West if I can help!

In December I will be arriving on a Holland America ship, which I presume will dock at Mallory Dock? and want to get from there to a church on Thomas Street near to Olivia Street. I assume it is too far to walk from the pier. Can I reach it using a trolley tour? or do you know how much a taxi would cost? Thanks
