  1. We did the Celebrity Xpedition trip this year with a couple of nights in Quito beforehand and then Machu Picchu and Cusco afterwards. We seriously couldn't fault anything about the trip. We loved having 7 days on the boat as the islands were all different from each other. We always took the long hike (only about 1.5 miles so not exactly long!) and the snorkelling was amazing with sharks and seals swimming around. The trip to the Middle of the World Museum in Quito was brilliant and then the tour afterwards withMachu Picchu was brilliant as well. All the hotels we stayed in were really lovely.

I would definitely recommend this trip.

  2. We found that taxis were easy to use and fairly cheap. We went to the Pele Museum, had a ride on the trolley bus, went up the funicular and had a walk on the beach, catching taxis in between most stops. The sea is so warm it is like walking in a bath. The taxi on the way back to the port tried to rip us off but we just refused to pay that much and gave him what we'd paid for the other taxi rides. He was quite happy with that.

  3. We went on the Celebrity Xpedition in February. There were no children on board and to be honest, if there were, they would have been bored witless. We had a fantastic time, but there was no entertainment as such in the evening and each night the passengers would just have a drink and sit and chat with one another. On the islands, apart from the wildlife, there is nothing for the children to do so really they would probably be bored.

  4. A few years ago we caught the train into Rome which was really easy. We had our route sorted before we went so knew where we were going. We got off the train near the Forum and bought tickets that admitted us to the Forum and the Colosseum, which meant we didn't have to queue at the Colosseum. I think we then mainly walked around Rome, but might have caught 1 train, and saw all the major sites, including St Peter's Square, but not the Vatican, before getting the train back. We went to the Vatican last year and you need several hours to look round properly. This DIY trip was really easy to do as long as you have planned where you want to go beforehand.

  5. We went to Napoli Sotteraneo, an underground tour which was fascinating and hilarious as our tour guide was so good. The tour is only about an hour so we then walked around Naples and had lunch. It's great for people watching as so many people take their dogs into shops and even on the back of scooters with them.

  6. We've only been to Brunei out of those and this is a working port and not walkable into town. We did hear of people getting a taxi into town and walking around. We booked a tour, not a ship's tour but can't remember who with, and it was excellent and we got to go on a speed boat through the floating town and down the river and also saw all the other landmarks. Well worth it.

  7. We just walked around the old city and really enjoyed it. We then went to Elli Beach, just along the coast, where there is a diving board out at sea. We spent most of the afternoon watching the youngsters doing back flips etc off the diving board.

  8. I sailed on the Summit a few years ago with 2 teenage daughters. They joined the teen club on the first night and met loads of other teenagers. After a couple of nights all the teens just hung out together and didn't bother going to the club. My daughters had a wonderful time and still keep in touch with the boys and girls they met on this cruise who live all over the world.

  9. We have just returned from the Princess Sapphire cruise which included Pattaya/Bangkok. We used the ship's shuttle at $8 each way which drops you off at a hotel in Pattaya. We then caught a taxi to the Sanctuary of Truth and then to the big Buddha. The sanctuary of Truth was amazing, but the Buddha wasn't really worth going to. Other than these we couldn't really see anything else worth seeing and Pattaya itself was a bit of a dump.

  10. We had a young man as our guide as Smile Tours had 3 coaches going in to Saigon. He was absolutely fabulous and really enthusiastic about everything. He was constantly asking us if we wanted him to take photos of us with our cameras. He answered all our questions. Unfortunately I can't remember his name, but if all the guides are like him I wouldn't worry. :

  11. We just returned from the Sapphire Princess. They had a show in the theatre every night, but most of them were nothing to write home about. After the show the only entertainment that you could join in with was a trivia quiz (every night) or you could just sit and listen to music. 3 nights out of 10 they did a game show like Mr and Mrs and these were so well attended I can't believe they didn't do it every night. Overall the entertainment was so poor that it has seriously put me off ever sailing with Princess again as, for me, entertainment is a big part of the cruise experience.
