  1. We'll be doing the zipline out of Hoonah (Icy Straight Point), which is a hoot. We did it several years ago on a Celebrity cruise. It's a mile long and 1,000 foot drop. We loved it. Since we're Alaskans, we're not looking at a whole lot of excursions, just wanting to see some southeast towns and villages we haven't seen yet. In Juneau, though, there's Tracy's Crab Shack, a tented food place that's on the cruise ship piers. They have the best crab rolls you've ever had. We highly recommend them.

  2. We'll be aboard for the May 17 Star Legend cruise. We live in Alaska, and we've done three Alaska cruises so far, two on Celebrity and one on Holland America. After cruising twice with Wind Star (Caribbean and Tahiti), we're looking forward to seeing some new spots in Southeast Alaska, such as Sitka and Wrangell.

  3. We tend to book all our trips early. Prices early are good, although they can be better closer to the day. However, living in Alaska makes short-notice trips problematic from a flight standpoint, though it's getting a bit better. Also, we do our own booking of all the details, so earlier gives us more time to work it out. And, of course, time to dream about the trip.<G>

  4. We booked early, and then this offer came up. We had most of it, minus the shore excursions, so we spoke with the rep, and we were more than 120 days out, so they transitioned us to it, saving about $900 for the cruise. We're okay with it.

  5. Get wrist bands and go to the Soggy Dollar!

One of the reasons we booked on the Jan 16, 2016 Yachtsman's Caribbean was to get back to the Soggy Dollar. Last time we were there was on an excursion from a big ship, but as a sailor (27' Newport, nothing special), I've always wanted to go there. As we boarded the catamaran for return, a woman on the beach was crying because she had too many painkillers to swim back to the sailboat. We jumped back in and dragged her out. It was great fun! Can't wait to get back!
