  1. The new all inclusive pricing states "Children, adolescents and adults are offered unlimited juices, soft drinks and water."

    Hope that helps

I booked the cruise before the premium all inclusive started. But anyway, that mandatory all inclusive are only offered for us that live in europe if I understood it right. I don´t think it is offered for the US market.

  2. Well, it depends how honest you want to be. Soda is included in the drink package. You are not supposed to share the package.... but I am sure many do. Many times when I ordered soda for myself they did not even look at my card that said ubp on it - just handed me the soda.

I was more thinking about that if you buy a drink package for your cruise, everybody else in the cabin are also required to buy the same package (and for the kids they have to buy soda package if parents buy Ultimate beverage package). So when we get the Ultimate beverage package for free, how does it work for the rest of the people in the cabin?

  3. suite guests with young children threw hissy fits complaining they could not enjoy cocktail hour as the kids clubs were closed at the same time so Royal caved and began permitting children in the CL during cocktail hour. Trust me, I had booked my cruise specifically in a suite to HAVE a Kids free lounge atmosphere and they changed the rules a mere month before we sailed. i was not happy camper, and neither was the Concierge who had to deal with a toddler who destroyed the area she was in every night so badly he hd to call housekeeping. nothing like having a quiet conversation interrupted by a vacuum cleaner sucking up ground in cracker crumbs.

prior to that both CL and DL were lumped together with the ban on kids for cocktail hour.

ah well I am 3 cruises shy of making Dimond so once that happens I may forgo the CL just to avoid the kids....

We will be coming in on a cruise ship in September for the day. We would like to go to the Ice Bar. We can book an excursion on the ship to see it, but was wondering if it is possible to walk or take a taxi there. Is it easy to get a taxi near the pier and will we need reservations at the Ice Bar? We do not want to spend time standing in line to get in as we only have one day in Stockhom. Not sure if we can easily do this independently. Thanks for any info you can share.:)

    Hello.

You can take a taxi from the port, I think it is a lots of taxis outside the port there you dock in the morning.

I have heard that it is best to make a reservation for the Ice bar.

Here is the link to the Ice bar

  5. Go back to my post (page 29, #580) which shows the layout of S167. Last year the HOHO boats started an 'express' service taking passengers to either the Vasa or Gamla Stan from about 9am, before they started up properly for the day. Don't know if they are doing it again this year though. I'm sure there was an ATM in the Tourist hut place, but I'm not certain...did anyone else see one in there?

    Simon

Just In the front of Stadsgården S167, The Viking Line ferries have a terminal, just inside that that terminal on your right you can find an ATM.

  6. Our ship, NCL Sun, comes into Nynashamn and we plan to go to Skansen. We were going to get teh Stockholm Card, but it is not mailed out and you have to pick it up at the Visitor Center across from the Central Station. Since we could not use it for the trip in (even though it is covered in the cost) it would not be worth the cost for a 24 hour visit. So our next choice is getting the 24 hour visitor card that covers public transportation. Are those tickets purchased through a kiosk, or do we need to purchase it from station staff since it would be the first time use? Also, can you advise as to which American credit cards could be used at the station or kiosk? I am trying to plan for how many Kronors to take. Thanks

You can buy a 24 hours card for the public transportation for 120 SEK (about 19-20 dollars). A lot of shops in Sweden accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express etc but in a small local Station Kiosk in Nynäshamn, I can´t promise that they accept credit cards at all. In that way you can find ATM machines somewhere in Nynäshamn.

  7. A question to the Swedes here (north-bound , Al etc)

When I last visited Stockholm ( a month ago) I received my 24h travel card in the form of the new reloadable SL Access card that I understand in the future will replace all other ticket types in Stockholm.

Now I read that, as most people have asked for new cards again and again instead of taking the trouble to reload their old ones, it has been decided that from 1 January 2011 the SL Access cards will cost 20 kr.

Does it mean that from now on tourists will have to pay an additional 20 kr for a total of 120 kr for a tourist card they probably will never use again?

Yes, from this year you have to pay 20 SEK extra for the Access card.

  8. Hi again,

With respect to the walk from Vasa to the ferry:

The walk takes about 10 minutes. Do we walk back out to the main road and walk to Allmanna Grand? The ferry stop is before we get to Grona Lund. Is this correct?

Bus #76 form Gamla Stan back to Frihamnen:

I believe there are 2 stops, Rantmastartruppan and Slottsbacken.

Is Rantmastartruppan where we will have come off the ferry? I am confused as I thought the ferry stop was Slussen terminalen.

Is Slottsbacken right near the Palace. I thought it was referred to as "Palace Hill".

Are there any other bus stops in Gamla Stan? Trip from these two stops to Frihamnen will take 15-20 minutes.

    Thanks again,

    Sheal

    Hello.

The ferrystop is very close to the main entrance to Gröna Lund. You´ll see where sea is when you are by Gröna Lund.

Räntmästartrappan is the nearest busstop from the ferry. Just go up to the road and you should see the busstop.

Slottsbacken is just outside the royal palace, maybe 3-4 minutes walk from Räntmästartrappan to the right (if you come from the ferry från Djurgården/Vasa Museum).

  9. acjb -

Thanks for the info. August can't come soon enough. It'll be great to escape the Dubai heat in August even if its only for 10days.

To follow up, is there another transport option for the Central Terminal to RCCL Dock besides a taxi? It could be difficult to "CALL" for the taxi with child seat once we get to Central. pls let me know if you can.

    Thanks...

You can also go by Underground to "GÄRDET" and then take bus number 1, direction "FRIHAMNEN". The busstop you get off the bus is FRIHAMNEN, the endstation.

  10. Hi,

We're planning on RCCL Vision of the Seas cruise stockholm-copenhagen cruise in Aug 2010. We are a party of 4 adults, 1 teenager and one 1 year old infant. We'll be flying from London Stanstead to Stockholm Verstas on Ryanair, landing approx 9am on Sunday 8th Aug. From there we will take the coach to Central Terminal and then hope to cab it to the RCCL dock for 5pm departure.

Have the following questions for our Stockholm day:

    1. Do infants require child seats in the Coach and in taxi? We don't want to travel with the child seat if it's not required. For example, in London child seats are not mandatory in the back seat of Taxi's.

    2. With the aim of travelling light, will we find a supermarket/hypermarket/dept store open on Sunday around midday for some infant shopping? diapers, baby food etc

    3. what is the best way (not the cheapest but convenient and least stressful) to go from central terminal to frihammen dock? i presume taxi but pls advise if there is a better alternative.

Have more questions but i'll ask later as things firm up. Thanks in advance.

    Hello.

You need a childseat for your 1 year old infant in a taxi in Sweden. I don´t think it´s required in the bus, but I´m not shure.

You can call "Taxi Stockholm" and request a car with a childseat. It should not be any problem.

The most of the supermarkets are open at Sundays in Stockholm. You have some on your taxijourney to Frihamnen. Ask the taxidriver to stop by a "Konsum" or "ICA" supermarket. They have all the required things for your baby.

If you run out of diapers you will easy find supermarkets in Gothenburg and Oslo as well on your cruise.

We are going for a transatlantic cruise in 2 weeks with our 1 year old boy with RCCL. We really look forward for it :-)

  11. acjb - Thank you for offering your advice! My wife and I will be in your wonderful city for a day in early August on the Eurodam. We will be heading first to the Vasa Museum, and after that to City Hall. I'm an amateur photographer and really want to see the view from the tower! What is the best way to get to the City Hall from the Vasa Museum, since they are on opposite ends of the city? And about how long will it take? Thank you!! OH, and what is your favorite spot to photograph in the city? Again, thank you!

    Tom and Judy

    Skirbyz

    Reston, Virginia

From Vasa Museum to Cityhall my suggestion is if you are able to it take the ferry to Old town and then a walk. The ferry takes about 5-10 minutes and then a 15-20 minutes walk. If you going by bus the journey may take a long time while they are building a lot of tram tracks in the area between "Djurgården" there Vasa museum is situated and the city.

My favorite spot of taking pictures is at "Fjällgatan". Just a 5 minutes walk from Metrostation Slussen.

Fjällgatan is a street on a hill there you have a nice view of the city.

  12. acjb ~ question about the Royal Palace you might be able to answer. We've been to Stockholm on land trips before - a fabulous city! (Our son-in-law is from Hallstavik and he's spoiled us with wonderful visits to Sweden.) We'll be in Stockholm for on July 7th on the Constellation during a Baltic cruise.

We've seen the Changing of the Guard (on Princess Victoria's birthday in 2008!) but have never been inside the Palace. I've gotten information on their web site about times and prices but wonder if they ever run-out of tickets? I can't find any where to order tickets in advance (as Buckingham Palace). I have E-mailed a question but have not received an answer yet.

We'd like to see at least the Royal Apartment and Gustav III´s Museum of Antiquities - I understand there's a combination ticket.

Any information you can give us would be greatly appreciated. And I must say - you are a fabulous person to offer such detailed help! I've lived in NYC all my life and don't think I'd be able to give the same detailed help regarding my city! I've never traveled here!!! Thanks much!

    Hello.

I must tell you that I have never been to that museum :-)

But I have never heard about that any museum were sold out.

In the worst case you maybe have to wait in a line for the tickets.

  13. I can't get the flights into Stockholm and was wondering if I could use another one near by that we can take a train journey to the port.

Thanks so much for you help

    Hello.

We don´t have any more nearby airport in Stockholm that have directflights from ex USA.

If you flying to Copenhagen airport in Denmark(bigger than the airport in Stockholm), you can take a directtrain to Stockholm. That trainjourney will take about 5 hours and you will be able to see a lot of the swedish landscape outside the window :-) . The trains departure from Copenhagen airport to Stockholm every second hour. See www.sj.se for more information.

If you going to Stockholm that way the best way is to spend the night before the cruise in Stockholm. It will be to short time to arrive in Copenhagen, then take the train to Stockholm to board the cruiseship in the same day.

If you are going to Stockholm from a town somewhere in Europe, maybee you can fly with Ryanair to a smaller airport called Skavsta just one hour busjourney from Stockholm.

  14. Thanks we will be arriving in July on the Eurodam at the Frihamnen port I believe. We were wondering how far it is from the port to town and the best way to see Stockholm if we do not use the ship excursions.

    Any suggestions welcomed..... Thanks:)

    Hello.

If you read this thread from the begining, you will find good advices how to get to the town and things to do.

Good luck and have a great time here.

  15. We also have the misfortune of docking at this port on our upcoming Baltic cruise. We're looking into taking the train into Stockholm, rather than paying NCL $50pp for a transfer which offers only a short stay in Stockholm. Can anyone give us some further insight on taking the train in, and also how far away it is from the train station in Stockholm to catching a HoHo boat.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello.

The trainjourney takes about 1 hour from Nynäshamn to Stockholm.

You can buy a One day card for 100 Swedish Crowns (About 10 Euro) and that card is also valid at the Underground and buses in Stockholm.

  16. Where can we purchase a transport card ? Do they sell them online ? We have been to Stockholm before, so this time we're just going back to the Vasa and the Gamla Stan.

If we purchased individual tkts for the buses do they only take coins (kroner )?

Sorry, one more question, what is there to see on Grinda Island ? Another option for us. We'll be there July 2010 on the Disney Magic with our Grandson

    (15 yr).

    Thank you !

    Hello.

You can not buy a busticket at any local bus in Stockholm, you have to buy a ticket before, but it is a lot of ticketmachines at the most bus stops. There you can buy a ticket with creditcard and coins.

Here is the link to SL, Stockholm Public transport:

    http://www.sl.se/Templates/SubStart.aspx?id=1906

If you are going to Grinda, you can see some Sheeps and cows. The most people in Stockholm are going there to sunbathing. It is a lovely boattrip about one hour from the city to get there.

You have a small shop there you can buy icecream, candy and it is also a restaurant at the island

  17. Hello: I live in Canada an will be in Stockholm in July. We are arriving on an Oceania cruise ship, and would like information on ways to get from the ship to the airport. Cost would also be helpful. Thank you. CanadianTom

You can take a taxi for about 500-700 SEK or 50-70 euro from the harbour direct to the airport. But be aware. Go by one of the big and serious taxi companies:

    Taxi Stockholm

    Taxi 020

    Taxi Kurir

Or you can take a fast train from the main train station for 220 SEK per person.

You can also go buy bus from "Cityterminalen" close to the main train station for half the price of the train ticket.

But then you first have to go to the trainstation by taxi or bus.

  18. Thanks for the info. I have one more question (for now!!). How long is the walk from where we dock at Stadsgarden to the ferry terminal (assuming a moderate pace)?

    Hello.

From Stadsgården I think it takes 20-30 minutes to walk to "Slussen" there the ferry to Djurgården are.

In other way, it is a plenty of buses from Stadsgården, all of them are going to Slussen (the final station for buses from Stadsgården). A trip is about 3-4 minutes and costs 30 Swedish crowns.

  19. Hi!

We want to catch the ferry from the Vasa Museum to gamla stan - how long does it take and how much does it cost, please??

From Vasamuseum you take a short walk to outside the amusementpark "Gröna Lund".

From there you take the ferry to Slussen in Gamla Stan.

It costs 40 Swedish crowns (about 4 euro) and takes 10 minutes.

The ferry runs every 15 or 20 minutes.

  20. We will be in Stockholm on a Saturday and Sunday later this month and have made reservation at the Grand Hotel for the smorgasbord on Sunday at 1 pm (13:00). Our shp leaves port at 5 pm (17:00). How long does it take to have an enjoyable smorgasbord and then return to the ship :D - have we left enough time? Although we have a Stockholm card, it is my understanding that the busses do not run (at all?) on Sunday, and we will have to take a cab - should this be a problem? Would we be wise to plan to see the City Hall that morning - and save Saturday for general site seeing as more will be open? Any insights will be appreciated!

    Fran (and Jeff)

The buses in Stockholm runs at sundays. But it is a direct bus line to Frihamnen from Old town. That bus does not run on sundays.

I think you should have atleast 2 hours for the smörgåsbord.

Outside Grand Hotel, it is always taxis there waiting for people.

  21. What can happen with the train?

    Everything.....

It could be something wrong with the rail, the signals, the train, the electricity.

The most of the time the trains in Sweden are right in time, but if something hapends, it is good to have some extra time. I Mean, it is not for free to buy a new ticket to the other side of the atlantic ocean.

  22. We are thinking of using the high-speed train to Arlanda from our hotel (The Grand) when we leave Stockholm. Any tips? How long does the trip take? How early should we arrive to the airport for an international flight? thanks.

The trip with Arlanda express should not take more than 22 minutes.

My advice is to plan to be at Arlanda airport 90 minutes before they close the check in.

That is because you should have enough time if something hapens on the way to arlanda for example with the train.
